WHALE MEAT FOUND TO CAUSE IRREVERSIBLE BRAIN DAMAGE
Unlike cow, whale meat contains whopping levels of Mercuric poison.
Mercury, a potent neuro-toxin, has now been found in whale meat and shown to cause irreversible neurological damage. Severe cases resulted in Coma or Death.
Even in Low concentrations, scientists found that mercury causes damage to the nervous system, children are even more at risk. Exposure to methylmercury may be irreversible & can cause developmental brain problems
@kakana21 U can not farm the whales u can't feed the whales every day in whales tank and grow whales in large tank but ..... cows are on the farm. they can feed and kill them for food... u will understand how works
My Japanese lecturer said it best; he does not believe in the continuation of whaling but the Australian government's beliefs that these issues can be drastically stopped within a day are misguided and potentially dangerous.
NEWS: "Whale Meat found to cause deformed children"
Clinical Toxicology Dept at Hokkaido University has released findings that reveal whale meat is contaminated with high levels of Mercury poisoning.
Japanese Whalers attempt to entice children to ingest it.
Ingestion of Mercury causes people who have eaten it to have stunted brain growth, LOW IQ, reduced intelligence and to give birth to future children with deformities & birth defects.
"Japanese officials announced laboratory test of cetacean meat at a press conference. "We tested meat samples bought at supermarkets in Japan, the Japan Times said. Whale & Dolphin meat had mercury content 10 TIMES above Japan Health Ministry's advisory limit, while the methylmercury content was 10.3 TIMES over the Japanese human limit. "Research" Whaling? What a joke. Fuck the Japanese for slaughtering some of the most majestic creatures on planet. No one needs whale products anymore. This isn't about necessity, just ego and tradition. Last year the whale meat was so unpopular they tried giving it away to schools. Even then, nobody wanted it.
I didn`t know that their ancestors are killers and thieves and rapists. And driven away from their country(maybe UK). they act just like their criminal ancestors.
If you actually knew the history you'd know that deportation was usually reserved for petty criminals and victims of poverty. The death penalty awaited rapists and murderers. Deportation was mainly a solution to a surplus population problem.
These waters are Australian & New Zealand Antarctic Terrirorial Claims, claimed under the Antarctic Treaty System of which over 46 countries have signed. Thats 45 more countries recognising Australia's claim, than Japans disputed claim over the "Liancourt Rocks". Yet Japan continues to actively occupy The Liancourt Rocks using its Navy and Coastguard. It is therefore hypocritical of Japan to ignore Australia's valid & well recognized claim.
Well, I dunno what is so valid about ignoring the number of increase in Minky whales which the IWC itself admits, and some weak arguments like "You do not need to eat whale meat"? Do you have to eat beef to live? chicken? lamb? Would you stop eating cows if Hindu people started to protess against it? That too, and maybe you should research what "Territorial Claims" really means, and not just copy and paste off Greenpeace websites. They profit from people like yourself.
Most of your post is not a reply to what I have posted but other peoples posts, and is therefore irrelevant to me. Your opinion of Australian and New Zealand territorial claims is also irrelevant in light of the well established facts. Try addressing these facts rather than indulging in innuendo and ad hominem attacks.
The so-called Australian Antarctic Territory (AAT) is recognized by the United Kingdom, New Zealand, France and Norway only. Being a signatory to the Antarctic Treaty does not mean in any way that the signatory recognizes any territorial claim in Antarctica asserted by any country.
From the perspective of the international community therefore, Australia's territorial claim in Antarctica and its sanctuary in Antarctic waters, which it has declared under its domestic legislation, has no legal standing in international law and therefore no effect.
It also designated the Southern Ocean a Whale Sanctuary. Why is Japan a member of the IWC if Japan is going to continue defying the decisions of the IWC ?
you aussies are the number one DESTROYER of our Environment and hence our mother earth. Along with the USA, Australia has repeatedly denied to lower the CO2 emission rate saying that would hurt their so called economic growth.
Aussies are destroying our world and their govt. and media simply ignores these facts by putting a new topic, Calling "whaling".
This is plain hypocracy. I Mink whale is not endangered it is the Aussies that are dangerous
on IWC's website, it says the population of minke whales was estimated to be about 761,000 in 1988. but it is quite old data. it also says "The Commission is unable to provide reliable estimates at the present time. A major review is underway by the Scientific Committee" have you got any reliable and updated estimates to prove minke whales are endangered?
Have you got any reliable updated information from a dietion that states that this is a required part of anyones diet? You don't have reliable information to say that they are not. Do you have the scientific reports done by the Japanese whalers that state that they need further information? Lets keep the bs aside - it is not for scientific reasons that the whaling goes on.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Fact is that if people over hunt an animal it dies off. We have seen many breeds of animals disappear where if guidelines were in place they may not have. Minke whales may not be in short supply, according to the Japanese, but they could very well be if regulations are not put in place. They are slaughtered for their meat where if they were doing scientific research they could implant tracking devices. It is not about research is about food
@whaaaaaale do some research, then write a comment. Certain whales are become extinct and Kangaroos are pests in australia, meaning they are no where near become extinct.
The waters around Antarctica are the breeding grounds for the whales. Point is that no one needs to eat whale meat, it's not a required part of anyones diet. Fact is whales are an endangered species.
you aussies are the number one DESTROYER of our Environment and hence our mother earth. Along with the USA, Australia has repeatedly denied to lower the CO2 emission rate saying that would hurt their so called economic growth.

You believe what you want to believe, which is what has been fed to you by the media. The Kyoto protocol is bs. Countries, including you own, can keep emmitting carbon at the same levels as long as the purchase carbon credits from other nations. That is why Australia has said no to Kyoto because it won't make a difference.
The IWC designated the Southern Ocean as a whale sanctuary. Japan, as a member of the IWC cynically exploits loopholes in the moratorium while it pursues its "scientific research" for commercial purposes.
Research whaling is a fundamental right of every member of the IWC according to Article VIII of the ICRW. It is not a "loophole" or "illegal" or "commercial whaling in disguise" as the anti-whaling rhetoric suggests. Japan's whale research programs are perfectly legal.
Further, Article VIII. 2 requires that research by-products (meat) be processed and sold. This is a legally binding obligation, based on common sense, not to waste the meat.
you're an idiot... Japan's whaling research has yielded next to no information that required the slaughter of whales. Research IS a loophole in that it's NOT the intention of the Japanese whaling fleet! -that is the definition of a loophole, it's not saying it goes against the legislation. It's interesting that sometimes the tradition argument is used, other times the "research argument" is. These are contradictory.
Japan is conducting its research programs according to the rules of the IWC. The fact that the whale meat ends up on the market is a requirement of the ICRW to ensure that resources are not wasted. It is NOT a loophole in any sense.
And yes, eating whale is part of our culture. What's wrong with preserving one's own food traditions anyway, Mr./Ms. Ignorant?
Japan's research programs involve both lethal and non-lethal research techniques, such as sighting surveys and biopsy sampling. While certain information can be obtained through non-lethal means, other information requires sampling of internal organs, such as ovaries, ear plugs and stomachs.
Lethal studies are a standard research approach for other species and there is NO SCIENTIFIC REASON to exempt whales from this standard approach.
a recent exposee by 4 top scientific journal reviewers showed that in all but 1 case from 500 pieces of research in this program, lethal research was NOT required.
This is not a matter of race, believe me. I have Japanese friends, I practice Aikido, I drive a Subaru and a Toyota, I own a Canon camera. I like Japan, I strongly disagree with this practice though
Japan submits the results from its research to the IWC's Scientific Committee for review every year.
The SC has noted that Japan's research programs have provided considerable data that could be directly relevant for management and that the results of these programs have the potential to improve the management of minke whales. The SC has also noted that non-lethal means to obtain some of this information are unlikely to be successful particularly in the Antarctic.
They also noted that the argument that Minke Whales needed culling to protect food stocks was "implausible".
It might be better to leave these populations alone! Effective population figures are key to understanding the problem faced by whales. Other figures are meaningless, yet consistently quoted by pro-whaling advocates
Kangaroos are not endangered, in fact they are in plentiful supply. We don't go out and kill random kangaroos for food. We have kangaroo farms, just like we have cattle farms. Doesn't equate to whaling does it?
The point that I am trying to make is that there should be safe havens for the whales so they can breed. The whalers could make a lot of money by only hunting a few whales a year to sell to the Japanese market. The less available the meat, the more expensive it will be. There is only so much Japan can learn from dead whales, why not view their habits via electronic transmitters?
you aussies are the number one DESTROYER of our Environment and hence our mother earth.
Many species of whale are endangered and your "scientific research" is not longer required - how much can you learn from a dead whale? And no we are not the number one destroyer of the environment. We occupy very little of our country. Your country pollutes through industry - how many mines does Japan have?
Yes you do. What do you have whale farms? No, well that is killing random whales. Many species of whales ARE endangered. I have no problem with the Japanese hunting the whales that are not endangered as long as they don't over hunt them
lol. Smith referred to these two whale hugging terrorists as "gentlemen." Now Australia officially declared itself a terrorist-supporting country. Wow!
Al queda are terrorists - sea shepherd are a conservation society you muppet. Im sure if you happend to meet al queda and got attacked from them you may start to know the difference. If sea shepherd scares you - it must meen you are doing something wrong and are scared of the reaction.
you yellow one eyed fools australian waters are australian waters, so typical to not follow the law you never have and never will unless we bomb your asses into submission like we did in world war 2
It's stupid to say "When you kill cows, why don't kill whale's"!
1. The commercial relevance. The number of people that eats whale decrease more and more. So the most of the meat spoil in Japan warehouses.
2. Whales are at the top of the food chain. There meat is toxic and unhealthy for any human!
3. Hunting"Mistakes". Scientist often find bluewhale-(heavy endangered!) or humpback whale meat in Japan warehouses declared as mynke whale meat!
Think about that when you say something like this!

"effective population" taking into account individuals of a breeding age, inbreeding levels and fertility

Fucking Japs, leave the whales alone, how can exactly can u save them if ur fucking killing them all for ur so called research or sushi...
japussy 4 years ago
then can you leave the kangaroos too? lol
ARKLAYN 4 years ago
Kangaroos are not endangered, in fact they are in plentiful supply. We don't go out and kill random kangaroos for food. We have kangaroo farms, just like we have cattle farms. Doesn't equate to whaling does it?
EviejO83 4 years ago
I see.
I didn't know there are some kangaroo farms in Australia.
Well , do you know why the whales are endangerd species now?
Because of the America hunt the whales a lot for oils.
By the way, there are some not endangerd species in whales for example minke.

You are the number one destroyer of whale populations
EviejO83 4 years ago
whale ?? are you fucking kidding me ? Japanese eat whale not misuse it whereas you, destroy our mother earth
tushnim0new 4 years ago 2

Wow!
