What kind of speeds can you get out of 2nd and 3rd gear in the Mini S? Just looking at the video seems like you're shifting to 3rd before 60mph but kind of hard to tell with the shakiness.

I have a 2010 JCW and love that i can get 65mph out of 2nd and about 95 in 3rd.

I don't know much about cars but I always hear about 0-60mph in 6 sec or in 4 sec. Now I know that is good but how fast is the average vehicle. Like 10 sec or 12 sec for 0-60?

Probably around 7-8 seconds.

As far as your average modern cars: Most 4 bangers will run around 7-9 seconds, 6's will go about 6-8; the Camry does like 5.7. Most V8's run about 5-6, unless you're talking about a Corvette or something like that. 10-12 seconds would have been average about 20-30 years ago.

@xenomann442 depends where you live, in europe the average is probably in the 10 second range. in the US, around 8.5 i'd say.

my 2004 mazda 6 3.0 does it in 6.7, my mom's altima 2.5s does it in about 9.

@xenomann442 It varies. The Dodge Viper does it in 4.6 seconds, while the Smart for Two takes almost 15 seconds. These are extremes, so the average car I'm guessing is around 8 secs.

why don't you turn off the TCS or DSC when you do these runs? They prove to be a giant nuissance and take 1 or 2 seconds off the real time.

I've recorded a 6.66 0-60 time in my moms 07 S convertible. It has the supercharged engine not the turbo. Do those numbers sound right? It was done with ASC left on.

Sounds possible there's alot of variables which affect 0-60 times, some are just faster than others.

Thanks, Baja! It's tough finding solid mounting points for the camera in the MINI cabin, on top of the stiffness of the ride and the wide spread between the tach and speedo. This is the third MINI I've shot and it was the toughest.

We'll be upgrading our in-car mounting rig once finances allow. If you look at the VW 0-60 run, it's quite steady and crisp ... it's all about how and where the camera's mounted. The goal is to get that quality for all the videos ...
