Australia is a very hot country and a lot of leisure activities revolve around the beach or swimming pools in summer. I've seen these poor Muslim women sitting on the side of the water completely covered in black while their sons and husbands enjoy swimming in front of them. If this swimwear helps to make their life more enjoyable thats great, but to be denied the pleasure of swimming in a country such as Australia because of an outdated, repressive religion is tragic for these women.

I bought myself a modest swimsuit from an Islamic store. It is not a hijabi suit, just a modest one (bum-covering t-shirt and knee length shorts) and I quite like it. A couple people find it weird that I cover like that, but a lot have actually understood and been interested in the idea!

Swimming is imported depending on where you live (I'm on a island). It is taught in schools. Is grate for rehab after an injury to the body and great exercise that does not strain the body. It may not be in your taste but lost to women that like modest swim where (like me) are vary happy, seeing as there was nothing before. and there is more then one fit, they are showing the slim fit, there is a modest fit too, and it does not stick to the body ether.

If muslim women are so intent on beign devout to Islam, and wearing burqinis, then they should also accept verse 4.34 of the quran, which says that men are allowed to beat disobedient wives. Why the hypocrisy and double standards? If you want burqinis, then accept wife beating as normal too, as it's part of Islam. u can't have ur cake & eat it too. Honestly, why don't Muslims encourage their own men to stop thinking of women in a sexual way and to have them judge her and resperct her despite what she wears? men have to klearn to controlk their desires too. Case in point: rapes are rampant in many muslim countries, yet the men are almost never punished, only the women are, as proving that men will rape regardless of what women wear. I understand your judgements, though, I think it is highly flawed. You see, France claims to be a democratic nation-state whose modes of actions and policies are underpinned by early 19th century Enlightenment principles of freedom and solidarity. On the other hand, Islamic countries in general advocate very different principles; one of those include that women are not allowed to expose their bodies in public. This policy is openly adressed.

out of curiosity, what IS the muslim law concerning male modesty? and what about cultural "law" or middle eastern?
i'm a spiritual but non religious person, and i certainly support modesty but i think men could stand for a little more of it too. Now i don't really see the point in this full body suit stuff muslims wear since no one is attracted to shins or forearms. Hair might be attractive but not erotically.

I bought myself a modest swimsuit from an Islamic store. It is not a hijabi suit, just a modest one (bum-covering t-shirt and knee length shorts) and I quite like it. A couple people find it weird that I cover like that, but a lot have actually understood and been interested in the idea!
The burkini is not too bad! Better than no swimming or swimming fully clothed!

@candicesj i also brought myself an "islamic swimsuit" but i felt it still showed to much of my shape to where it comfortably, i have not found a suitable "burkini" on the market yet, i just where loose clothing and choose a quite place on the beach, and always go with my husband, i never swim alone, i love the idea of islamic swimmers but worry that it will encourage girls to put themselves in situations unsuitable for muslim woman,

Swimming is imported depending on where you live (I'm on a island). It is taught in schools. Is grate for rehab after an injury to the body and great exercise that does not strain the body. It may not be in your taste but lost to women that like modest swim where (like me) are vary happy, seeing as there was nothing before. and there is more then one fit, they are showing the slim fit, there is a modest fit too, and it does not stick to the body ether.

Swimming is a skill and a much need one at that.
