  • Name of the music please?

  • Did somebody of Niten Ichiryu read the book of Miyamoto Musashi, Gorin-no-shô ?

  • Hello Kitty @ 2:10 :D

  • were do you buy these suits?

  • 外人は剣で遊んでいるかわいいです!

  • A funny and tragic thing is that there's more nito-ryu players in that room that there are in all of Sweden XD

  • Where is this place? It this place near Vancouver, B.C.???? I like this dojo! It's better mine dojo!!!

  • what song is this?

  • kill bill sound track

  • I think nitto isn't that effective, I never heard a nitto winner of the AJKC.

In Brazil the niten institute is a Mcdojo, they sucks.

  • Of course there is no winner at the AJKC..there arn't many kendoka who actually practice this style. And even those who do are hardy ackowledged in Japan.becauce of prejudice. Just for the right spelling, it's called nito ryu in kendo. Nitto is a company for bicycle components in Tokyo

  • What's wrong with the style, does a lot of people in Japan think its cooler to use one sword instead of two?

  • @evice

It is more like they think it is more traditional to use one sword. Although Nito was banned around WWII. After that time the two sword style redevelopes real slow.

  • the sword is not effective. your personality shall be, trought your sword. ito or nito.

  • stupid

  • As a Nito player in Kendo, this type of video is inspirational - only sad that I could not attend this seminar in person.

  • Hey Samuraijoe. Now I know how you spend your evenings while I am in hospital :-)

Best regards from Berlin and I hope that we can manage to cross shoto and daito THIS year.

  • Loved this video !

  • I just saw a random Hello Kitty tenugui. wth lol

  • Question to any kendoka: Is the two-sword style of Musashi effective in sport Kendo? How common is it and are their any users of this style who has 8th dan or higher? (Because they do compete against each other, right?)

I am an Aikidoka myself but I think Kendo is really facinating and I would be happy if anyone would like to answear my qusteions.

    Thanks! :)

  • I just started learning the nito ryu but I think it is very enjoyable :) Though I'm from germany and you can hardly find any teacher that are fond of nito ryu. Anyway I'll try my best and enjoy nito ryu completely.

I've heard that there are many Nito-ka in brazil and southern japan. Musashi-kai itself is located in Tokyo. You can also find Kendoka practising Nito ryu in the U.S.

  • There is a N.G. dokumentation from 1986 about the 8th dan examination. One of the the 7th dan applicants used the nito ryu. By the ZNKF decided to abandon 9th and 10th.

Effectivness is always a matter of how skilled the user is. If the opponent is at your level you might habe an advantage against him because you are able do deflect his shinai. Beginners are clearly at disadvantage because it takes time to master the techniques from scratch.

  • @supertotoro as far as i know nito (tow sword style) is quite rare...

reason for that might be the fact that its tougher to learn... i wouldnt say its ineffective but the fact that u use only one hand for the strike forces u do really do strong kendo ... because when done perfect the power of ur strike only comes from the left hand (also when fighting with both hands and only 1 sword) but thats tough to learn but its essential for nito ...

  • @supertotoro

It's a little late, but I didn't see a good reply to many of your questions.

I think the reason nito is quite rare in Japan is because high level kendoka started off doing middle school and high school kendo, where the level of energy and aggressive is too high even for jodan to be effective sometimes, let alone nito. It is more common in the U.S., I don't know about other countries.

There are 8dans who practice it. Look up Toda Sensei. Chiba Sensei also practices it sometimes.

  • @supertotoro bitch

  • the music and sound effects are cheesy, but other then that the video is good.

  • Got a aesthetics question if someone can answer. How do you prevent the bogu from bleeding indigo dye all over your white gi and hakama. I love my off white and white set just a hassel dealing with the dye all the time.

  • The opening song is by Tomoyasu Hotei. It's called "Battle Without Honor Or Humanity" from his album titled "Electric Samurai"

  • Great post, thanks...

btw, what song is in this clip?(the opening song?)

    arigatou.....

  • Yes you are right, Sekka-chan. I have even seen fear in the faces of great and strong swordsmen.

Especially at the time of the GENZEN.

The thing is once you have a family to care for everything is about surviving.

  • Nicely quoted Yoshi-san : )

Nobunara always said this to me...

But you forgot the thingy about fear. He told us fear would be a great weapon, because when you show fear in front of your opponent he may become too confident and that would be a big advantage for you.

And thinking of survival has always given me strength. I mean doesn't think of survival (if you would be honest) : )

  • The highest ambition with Kenjutsu is to get rid of any thoughts. And not only thoughts, but concentration too, because concentration is a very weak weapon. It can be broken very easily if you know how to do it. Instead of thinking and concentrating close your eyes and feel. Feel the space around you, feel every little detail there is. When you reach this point you can lay aside your sword and have a perfectly happy life : )

  • Well, looks like great fun. The Last Samurai gave me goose-bumps, as always.

Well done vid, fun to watch.

  • his in jekken for ps1

  • Correct this is nito kendo and not kenjutsu. However, I believe Musashi-Kai's use of term "Niten Ichiryu" is not without some merit as according to their book on nito kendo (published by the AJKF), Nakamura sensei can trace a line back to at least 2 branches of Niten Ichiryu through his sensei.

Anyways, dispute over this sort of things can get messy so we should just enjoy kendo and acknowledge their obvious skill and dedication to nito kendo!

  • great post, thank you

  • Uow. Is Musashi-kai the name of Dojo?

  • "Niten Ichi"? Where? I can see Kendo and Nito Ryu Kendo.

  • This highlight video only shows a portion of the events that took place on that weekend. There were other classes and instruction besides what you see here.

  • how teach a fish to swim?

    musashi kai fake?

of course HNIR doesn't include shinai kyogi on training, as can you see, what they do is practice HNIR kihon in kendo (as long as kendo ruling alow, because you will never se a soete tsuki on kendo practice no?). this is complety true and their nito isn't different about other nitos (gyaku or sei). so, judge a style if you don't know anything about it, musashi kai is one of the most respected schools in japan.

  • also, the knowledge you got doing HNIR in musashi kai is not able to be seen for other people when doing kendo shiai, yourself is the only one able to see it, and it's shown in your waza. This is how you can feel the real koryu; putting on practice what you learned about the koryu you practice on kendo as long it's rules alows you, not just physics, but mental. not like INSTITUTO NITEN of brazil, which made an entire new KENJUTSU style about HNIR trying to copy the teaching of musashi kai.

  • chakaling got owned...

  • Obviously. Their bogu looks like they made it at home (actually several sets of very expensive bogu), and practicing in a backyard like that (looks pretty well organized), and I bet if you googled this seminar it would exist (oh wait I did and it does). Obviously fake (actually I'm jealous I wasn't there).

  • i like the entry statement.
