Thanks for directing me here, Mark. This was an excellent scene. Poor Dex. I feel a little for him now... and I hope he can get past it. I will have to watch and see. I hope he can realize that Lucas is a great friend and not at all like his coach. I got a little confused when it started subtitling in dutch.  I was like WAIT I CANNOT UNDERSTAND-- oh they're speaking english now. lol

its so sad that dex went through such a horrible ordeal, its no wonder the way he treats lucas, i suppose lucas is very touchy feely and everytime he does this or acts that way with dex it just brings it back to dex, though without this atmosphere and problem i couldnt see them getting along anyway, lucas is so laid back while dex is the opposite and quite uptight and self orientated. love the story line, think its brillant and love the sub's, which read brillantly , go raibh mile mhaith agat,

Wow, I have to say, kudos to Holland for writing and making such complex and well-done plots, and incorporating more character-driven twists and turns. I really disliked Dex before, but seeing this, I can at least understand him better. Fifteen is still young and impressionable, and it could affect him in ways he never realized until later. *shrug* I can't see a US soap even touching this. Whether it turns out that he's gay, straight, whatever, it will make a good storyline/arc.

Humans are complex and multi-faceted. Our responses to traumatic experiences are as different and varied as we are. There is no cookie-cutter way to react to having been abused/molested. People do the best they can.

Something had to "break" Dex before he'd talk about what happened to him.  That "something" happen to be Lucas and Nina.

And, just like Lucas has layers and IS NOT just some sexified, gay, belligerant brat, Dex IS NOT just some one-note retrograde, macho, homophobe.

i feel bad for dex's past but the writers have made me hate him so much so that, dare i say it, the reasoning for his homophobia sounded lamer than it would had they not waited so long to tell us :\ i still think that he overreacts... lucas is in no way a child molester

You're talking as if everybody in Asia spoke the same language.

Anyways, just like in the Netherlands, Scandinavia and France, in Indonesia "homo" is just a synonym for "gay". Not a negative word.

Just when I thought there was no way for Dex to become human again, no excuse for his behaviour, this happens. Amazing writing. I thought the story was difficult to predict because Dex's character was going nowhere, I was wrong. I look forward to being wrong in the future. Go, writers, go!

I think the intent is the key.

If a homophobe screams "Fag!" it's evil. But it doesn't feel more evil if they scream "Homo!" or less evil if they scream "Gay!". Hate is evil.

I call myself a "dyke" and rarely use "lesbian" unless I'm speaking academically or to straight folks.

All my friends use the word "dyke" to refer to themselves and each other but some women just die a thousand deaths if you use that word in their presence.

I like "Homo". It's descriptive, accurate and efficient. ;)

We say the same here in Norway too. Homo means gay, and it's not a bad word. Well, it can be used as a slur, but most often it's just used to say someone is gay, we say "homo", "homofil" or "homse".

here in germany homo is very negative - you say it when you want to hurt a person - so everytime the actors say it i remind my self ok they are dutch so its ok to say it.

In Canada it's the same way, "homo" is a slur, but "gay" is not. Everytime Lucas says "homo" I flinch, I think he's angry. I have to remind myself it's different there.

Well, like I said, homo COULD be used as a slur in Norway too, but it could also be used just to say someone is gay. It depends on the context. Like "I am homo" is ok, but not to insult someone saying "f-ing homo", if you know what I mean..

@JiminPalmSprings Over here it's the most normal word. Like 'straight' we also se 'hetero'. We just say the words homosexual and heterosexual without the 'sexual' behind it ;-). Nothing weird to Dutch people at all, so I hope you understand it isn't meant bad at all :-).

if you look at statistics most people who abuse children are married man and do not consider themselves homosexuals. Generally, gays do not act like that and Im talking about gays who are not afraid of hiding their sexual preferences.

@egon It doesn't matter if they concider themeselfs gay or not, the definition of gay is being attracted to the same sex, that's it, and although 99% of gay people are normal like everyone else (including myself), men who sexualy abuse boys, are gay, since they are attracted to men, but they definitely don't represent the majority of gays, but it's important to realise that this small part of our gay community does exist., so we can do something about it, instead of ignoring the problem.
