  • The tower is gone (thank God). Get over it. What an eyesore not only to visitors to the battlefield but those of us who live in the area. Those who decide not to come back to Gettysburg because the tower is gone, well that is your loss. The NPS has created a very fantastic Visitors Center and new Cyclorama display (to replace that eyesore on Cemetery Hill. Next, they need to clean up Steinwehr Avenue. All in time.

  • @PaMairi

MY grandfather took me there when I was about 8 or 9 (lat e80's) I liked the tower... thought it was one of the most interesting things in what is otherwise a crappy tourist trap of a town.

  • Interesting. This tower was long gone by the time I visited Gettysburg.

  • I used to take bus-loads of students to the battlefield annually, spending thousands per year in that town, inside the park and out. Have not gone back since the tower was removed. I hope those who had it demolished are happy with themselves.

  • I love Gettysburg! Have been there at least once every year for the past 15 years. (and I live in Oklahoma) We drive straight through to get there. I loved this tower. It was the only way to see the whole battlefield and really understand what happened. I really miss it. I agree, tear down the McDonalds if you want to remove an "eyesore".

  • i wold be scared going in it. it looks a bit unstable in the elavator view.

  • Looks like I'm not the only one that wasn't real happy when they took the tower down. That was always one of the first places I went when I got to Gettysburg.

FYI...they now have a new visitors center. Its pretty nice.

  • Excellent tower footage. It was the only reason I went to Gettysburg.

  • I took a video too of this tower. How else can you see a bird's eye view of the battlefield. Just a bunch of jerks that are soooo concerned about the beauty of the battlefield. I asked around town about the tower and some of them told me not to waste my money. Thanks for posting this....it brings back memories.

  • me to!

  • I miss Gettysburg. I loved the tower! I'm so upset they tore it down.
