I think the three best people to play eponine are Samantha Barks, Lea Salonga and Kaho Shimada in no particular order as they alll sing On my Own just absolutely brilliantly, each in their own unique way.
Great mixing. I've listened to Shimada all these years and love her Eponine but it was very educational and entertaining to listen to all three and their different styles. I don't think there's a "correct" Eponine here. All of them are beautiful in their singing.
Lol! Ruffelle did the "weak Eponine, Shimada the "very sad Eponine," and Salonga the "strong Eponine" -> different ones to suit different people's tastes (you decide who's closer to Hugo's version). Salonga has the best vocals obviously, with Shimada delivering her lines in better English than Ruffelle who shows a speech impediment. The 25th anniv Eponine (Samantha Barks) has a strong voice but has a scratchy sound and problematic phrasing and is strangely too happy for the role...
Hugo didn't write Eponine as a whiny weak girl. She was a strong-willed lady upset by her unrequited love for Marius. Thus, it was no surprise that Salonga was dubbed as the ideal Eponine when the best actor for each part was selected for The Dream Cast.
I think they all sound great, but I lilke Lea Salonga's version because she sung it more with passion of anger and power! not poor me...I can't have him (on my own)
Great job mixing all three! they all have different styles. Frances is all sweet and innocent, Kaho is more of a stronger personality and Lea sings it with a lot of emotion. They are all legends.
Lea Salonga FOR THE WIN. She has the best interpretation of the song.

I think you mis-labeled and switched Frances and Kaho at one point.

@enagtiney
Actually, the invitation originally went to Ruffelle, who declined.
Though my favorite Eponine is Frances, I respect most of the others. I'm not a fan of Barks, though.

Very good but at 1:46 it says that Frances is singing but it's actually Kaho and at 2:14 it says it's Kaho singing but it's actually Frances

For me it will always be France Ruffelle. I love Lea Salonga in other roles, but Frances will always be my Eponine
