  • thanks god for proxytube or else I couldn't rewatch this video on Youtube...curse you, GEMA

  • The PS2 actually had some pretty awesome launch games. Most notably SSX, Dead or Alive 2 and Timesplitters.

  • that controller was not very comfortable

    it did the job though

  • I'm making an arcade cabinet and using my dreamcast for the arcade games!

  • I enjoyed this trip down memory lane with an excellent Saturn/PS1 summary to boot. Nicely done, sir.

    >:-o

  • i have a announcement: sega didn't give up!,Their currently on the sega phoenix.

  • Even though I love the Xbox and Playstation consoles, I still wish that Sega was still making consoles, and that the Xbox and Playstation consoles were the least popular. Sorry Microsoft and Sony.

  • Several months after I got my dreamcast, when I only had 3 games for it, I got a SNES. It came with street fighter 2, star wars, super metroid, and star fox. Yet I played my dreamcast more often than one of the most famous systems, with some of the best games ever. I actually gave my SNES and most of the games just for some dreamcast games. Best decision I ever made.

  • i find it interesting how the button layout color is pretty much similar with an xbox controller. I know he mentioned that one guy from part one but here me out. starting from the y button, if you shift(not swap) the colors down, right, left and up, you got the xbox button color scheme..

....god that was dorky. Im sorry.

  • 600th like

  • Please make sega dreamcast 2 don't lose hope sega

  • The Dreamcast isn't a total failure. You can still play the games it had, plus I think people still create games for it.Home made in other words. But I don't really know. I haven't played my Dreamcast in years. It's still a fun little system. People just need to give it a little love every once in a while.

  • sa2 has a hidden anti-sony ad in city escape

  • whats the game you played at 7:55 after you said "fuck yo' ass bitch!" to the PS2?

  • @christiansoldier11 That would be Bangai-O.

  • this should be on the history channel. :)

  • By the way.... MAKE A NEW POWER STONE SEQUEL FOR CURRENT GEN CONSOLES.

  • Who likes jet set radio? *points to self* this guy.

  • PS: my first console was a Mega Drive, or a Genesis and I loved the damned thing even though the SNES was WAY better. God I really miss my Mega Drive... Selling it along with all the games I owned for it in order to buy a Playstation back in 1996 is one of the biggest mistakes of my life! But hey, I was a kid and I was broke...

  • I think that by just looking at the Dreamcast's controller you can see why Sega kept failing: they couldn't "read" the market! One analog stick when the Dual Shock with its twin analog stick setup had been available for years and hailed as one of the best controlers ever made? Can you imagine what would have happened if the DC was alive during the FPS boom of the 00s? It was the same story with the Saturn: they focused on 2-D graphics when everyone was going gaga for 3D!

  • dreamcast kicks ass

  • hell yeah

  • After having a good look at the Dreamcast games I've got to say it was a great console at the time but it just came at a bad time and it followed after a disaster which was the Sega saturn.

  • @JReed1985 Lmao, someone just watched part 1 >_>

  • @apocMTL yeah I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to watch part 1

  • I got news!! Sega is thinking about returning in the console market because of true fans like us that want it back! :)

  • This is the first time I saw a video about 10 min without skipping or fast forward. This is a very interesting video. I've learned alot, never heard about a Dreamcast before, thoght I knew it all but seems like I didn't :D Thanks for an awesome vid!

  • I dont know what to say

  • I just gota Dreamcast, which game at 8:04 ???

  • @joelcr250 Bangai O fun game

  • SEGA failed mainly because of bad management.

Otherwise they could still be in the console race.

And 60 million polygons per sec spec that Sony stated for their PS2 is just bogus.

Sony has always over hyped the potential of their systems.

Most computer gamers will know when a console company is BSing their customers because they know the limits in hardware power.

The PS2 was a bit more powerful than the SEGA Dreamcast but no where near the gap that Sony wants you to think.

  • xbox definetly copied the deisign of their controllers from the dreamcast

  • This video always makes me cry

  • @wesley12106 seriously man I got a lil choked up at the end HAHA *fart sound

  • o man i still like the Dreamcast is still a great console if the dc had never exicted we woulden t have xbox live psn and nwific

  • One of the big reasons was Sony was reporting almost mythical performance for the Playstation, back then gaming wasn't as big so people weren't really up to speed with what was really possible, so people believed it.Sega had really hurt there image by the time Dreamcast came out. Great system.

  • The greatest video about the dreamcast i've ever seen. Loved it, man. Thanks.

  • I think Norman went gay for the Dreamcast.

  • All hail, DREAMCAST! Heroes rise again!.....

  • i have 2 working Dreamcasts. im a bit of a collector

  • R.I.P sega making consoles

  • what hapened to the sales of the DREAMCAST after it discontinued? did the used DREAMCASTS sailes go up? or did they go down?

  • DREAMCAST is the best console ever made

  • Wow. This is a well made video of the history of the Sega Dreamcast. Things even ended on a high note, when the Gaming Historian stated that homebrew games are still being released for the system. Many people are unaware of this fact....This informative video was simply perfect. No bias or hatred towards Sega.

The Dreamcast is my favorite console of all time. There are many, many haters out there, but they can't stop me from playing the games I love. Long live the undead console!

  • My Dreamcast is still alive until now and I'm still playing quake 3, Hidden & Dangerous & Phantasy star online on my Dreamcast... I love my Dreamcast more than my PS3 and my XBOX360...

  • @nutsforbionicles I think you're just saying that to act like you know too. If you did know then congratz.

  • @TheToadRacer sorry im replying 2 months later but i felt a need to. im not saying anything bad about sega, nor am i trying to act smart, im just saying that in this era, secrets get out. if they were, which they might be even though they probly arent, there would be about a 70 to 80 percent chance that the information was leaked, or some sega employee had a big mouth. In secrets are never kept and always get out unless your very lucky and it is HIGHLY unlikely sega is not making a new console

  • @nutsforbionicles well Sega did offend Nintendo by making a commercial saying "Sega does what Nintendon't" so pretty much Sega will try to be #1 again

  • The Dreamcast didin't go out with a bang, it went out with a "SONIC BOOM!"

  • if i had one complaint about this video, and it's really a fan boy complaint, no Jet Grind Radio reference?

  • Shame on the person who took a photo of a Dreamcast beside a trash can -_-

  • Well sega hasn't officially finished. I think sega had a plan since they quit making consoles. What they are really doing is observing the way the other game consoles are made now and they are secretly making the best console made in existence right under our noses. For all we know sega had it all planned since the beginning.

  • @TheToadRacer youd think that kind of information would have been found out by now

  • R.I.P Sega 1986-1999 XXXX

  • @pupstudios1 SEGA is older than 1986.

As a company it started in 1940.

And their first console was in 1983 which was called the SG-1000.

  • well Capcom supported the Dreamcast and look they created several great games. For Example MVC2, SF3 3rd Strike, Tech Romancer, Plasma Sword and Etc were really popular toward Dreamcast sorry about saying it was the NES i confused

  • Hmm, I believe the failure had more to do with a lack of spending power on Sega's end. In The Netherlands most people hardly knew what the Sega Dreamcast was.

I do not believe that the ps2 being marginally more powerful had much to do with it. The Ps2 games in the early days were uglier than the DC titles.

  • Why wasn't it mentioned that the Sony Playstation 2 never quite delivered on its promises? All the polygon counts where the DC lacked in comparison were just wireframe, whereas the DC polygon counts were shaded and with textures. The ps2 was more powerful then the DC, but it never showed it until like a year after the DC had died, and it took a year and a half for the first true great game to be released on the PS2, what other good game was there before Devil May Cry?

  • it really is a sad story, i wish sega re entered the market,

  • It was sad at the end

  • What Sega should have done was halt when the Playstation 2 rumors started circulating, and work harder on improving the DC hardware, it was farther ahead allready, and had it spent more time in production, it may of been a better success.

  • Quite Unfortunate what happened to Sega, but remember the you should never give up on Dreams, and the same should be said about the Dreamcast. That System will always hold a special place in my heart. I recieved mine in Christmas of 2000, and i will never forget playing Sonic Adventure for the first time....

  • the PS2 & the Dreamcast were both cool consoles the Dreamcast lasted longer in Japan.

  • Power Stone 2 was one of the greatest 4 player fighting games ever. I grew up on that with my friends. I feel sorry for people who only know Smash Bros...

  • Sega Dreamcast was a good console, great game libraries, but due to fail of sega CD, 32x, and Sega Saturn, 3rd party developers didn't want make game for dreamcast, instead they make game for PS2 and XBOX, that's why dreamcast fail and ultimately, discontinued after 2 years of living.

  • If Sega was selling Dreamcasts at stores, I would definitely buy one

  • ...Curse you Sony.....You took away the company I grew up with.......

  • I don't know why, but I got a bit teary at the end.

  • Chills, that's all I can say.

  • What game 7:55 ?

  • Oh great, so a console with a DVD drive could demolish one with a CD drive, Yet console with a Blu Ray drive can't do so with a console with a DVD drive? I'm talking about PS3 and Xbox 360 of course.

  • 7:18

    Gayest shit ever.

  • @kinneas You mean the dream cast right because ps2 kicks the dreamcast ass

  • @DimitrisP99 Nah where he picks the ps2 pad up and then picks the dreamcast one up instead. Was like a gay scene from a cheap infomercial.

  • I don't know why people vilify Sony for the Dreamcast's demise.PS2 is the single greatest console imo,and the Dreamcast's doom was long predicted because of Sega's idiotic internal politics which lead to other failures like the Sega CD,32x and Saturn.Dreamcast's demise was all the more bittersweet because the amazing software released in such a short span.

  • I hope Microsoft dosent end like this I hope Sony does for telling people on commercials that ps3 is best console

  • This system was the last system to truly have been the last true gaming system that suceeded and wasn't a commercial failure ever. Stupid sony, I like sony but still they killed a true gaming company. LONG LIVE THE WHITE BOX OF JOY THEY CALL THE DREAMCAST!

  • @gengermaster320 you should blame nintendo then, because they betrayed sony, so sony decided to go into gaming business.

  • lol i love how this video starts out with a sad song XD.

    great vids!!

  • ..I've got to give it to you. Your systems/controllers look like you've never had nerd-rage before. Bravo. :o

  • Truely touching end. I wish i knew the sites ect. to buy the independent games my dreamcast would like to play some new games. I have played all my dreamcast games to death... I pretty much own all of the official released ones... :)... Anyone knw where i can get these independent games???

  • I almost cried at the ending of the video. T_T

  • @TheMrCHELL i will take my dick in to a nosedive

  • @TheMrCHELL

    Well I did!!!

  • To me Sega maybe not a console maker anymore but it feels like Nintendo has made Sega a part of them, I mean look at the games they have made and Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. To me Sega is a backup for Nintendo and Nintendo is a home for Sega in this cause they both help to both win

  • The greatests Video Game Console of all Time. Nothing will ever compare to the Dreamcast. The Little System that almost could.

  • the system flopped basicly because of the dark backstory sega had with it's previous consoles, to refuse let genesis die on time, releasing stupid stuff like the 32x and the stupid way they acted about the saturn made gamers lost their faith on Sega, so when they finally got it right, it was too late and too few people were still there to believe. Dreamcast's story is a tale about broken promises, even seganet never took off, and sadly the console had the destiny it had, but it was sega's fault

  • That game system was one of the best in the market.....

  • im pissed off at sega for giving up. i wont forgive them unless they make a new console

  • @giantgaminghamster if they made a new one they could of gone broke then no more SEGA for anything

  • @giantgaminghamster Unfortunately in today's market I really doubt it. Although I would like to see a new Sega Console, you have to ask yourself, would Sega be able to hold a candle to the PS3, the 360, and the Wii? Even now Nintendo is falling behind because of the superior motion technology in which was made for the 360 and PS3. Yes, the very company in which Sega had competed with and currently works alongside with is falling behind to Sony and Microsoft. Who knows how long it will take

  • @gigawarman12 for Nintendo to finally dropout of the competition and start making Mario games on the PS4 and the Xbox 720 (Ya I know they don't exist yet, but in couple years I'm pretty sure it will)?

  • @gigawarman12

Nintendo made their money with the wii and are moving on now. I still see motion control as a gimmick and am hoping that Nintendo thinks the same. It doesn't seem like their new system that will be announced will have a motion controller since having a touch screen on a motion controller would be just too ridiculous. In other words they made their money from motion control and are gonna do something different now while the other companies are trying to mess with an old gimmick.

  • @eishikibahamut

At least that's what I'm hoping for since I absolutely hate motion controls!

  • Of all the Dreamcast reviews I've seen on YouTube, yours was the best. Love the switch from PS2 to Dreamcast and the music being played during it! You rock!!! Dreamcast will forever live on! Now let's go play some Power Stone!

  • I WANT NEW CONSOLE!!!... In 1990's there was new console like every two years or so... C'mon playstation... C'mon nintendo...C'MON MICROSOFT!!! We want PS4, Xbox 720, and Wii 2 with dual-core processor!...

  • @pufixas STFU you IDIOT. I'm was sick of companies doing that, making a new console then after 3 years I have to buy a whole NEW console for $300??? No, fuck that.

  • @YouGotJEWD

Nobody is telling you to buy new system, If you like your old one...

  • @pufixas dual core processor? the 360 has three core processors dual threaded, the ps3 has fuckin 7!!!!!! dual core? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @RazorEdgeBullie

Well its better than single core...

  • I want a fucking Dreamcast >:C

  • very sad;;. i kinda cry ;; lmao. Sega did put up a great fight. and about Shenmue 3. i would love to see that or aleast make a movie like that did with Shenmue 1. but that was a good story. love you sega;;

  • there are still homebrew titles still being made on dreamcast

  • all I can say is....Where the hell is my Shenmue 3? !?!

  • What's the game at the end?

  • @CAEStudios

    it's Bangai-O

    i think

  • so sad

  • Each of the main systems had an amazing back story

Atari: Bringing the Home Game Console

Nintendo: Savior of the Game Market

Sega: Fighting up to the very end before dieing

    Sony: Betrayded by Nintendo

Microsoft: A guy with dreams to create his own home console

  • @M3rtyville yeah except Sony weren't betrayed by Nintendo. Nintendo weren't interested of a CD add-on for the SNES. Phillips only won this by making their own console with a Mario and Zelda licence which Sony never even thought of. Sony got pissed and sort of wanted a revenge or were desperate to get into the video game market which was flaring. I would have loved if Sony was working with Nintendo.

  • @M3rtyville You mean they betrayed nintendo, not the other way around.

  • @iWATCHITT No. Nintendo promised a deal with Sony. Then Nintendo stabbed Sony in the back and went with Philips. I'm not trying to start a war, and I'm not a fanboy.

  • @McMuffinClause They went with philips because of an argument on how to distrubte the games.

Nintendo wanted to put a lock so It couldn't be pirated easily, buy sony didn't. After that argument, nintendo split and went with phillps on the deall that Philips could get franchise nintendo characters for ther upcoming system. So They used Zelda and mario.

I'm not trying to start a war either.

  • @iWATCHITT not entirely......they both decided to go seprate ways, sony felt like they could make more money to make consoles than add ons and nintendo thought that the n64 add on would fail

  • @iWATCHITT get your story right... Nintendo betrayed Sony

  • @iWATCHITT

Yeha Nintendo and Sony planned a cd based addon for the snes wich never came out the same with phillips

all faild and phillips made the F** Cdi

wihle the sony guys maked the Ps 1 .

and waht it came down to was

a Failiure for Phillips Cdi (inclusive the software for the system, brrr it still gives me chills xD)

and a huge Win for Sony Ps 1 (Wich then give a shit on Nintendo and betrayt them)

  • @iWATCHITT no. nintendo betrayed sony by going behind their backs and having philips make the snes-cd addon. then nintendo screwed philips by scrapping the idea altogether. sony kept the plans for the cd system and released it as their own;introducing the sony playstation.

  • He is giving the review from segas perspective not Sony so of course the sega seams like the hero. You always root for the home team. The ps2 is better and we all know that but you still got to have a soft spot in your heart and cheer for the underdog.

  • The dreamcast was made to compete with the ps1 not the ps2 so Sony kinda skrewed sega

  • ps2 is 100 times better then dreamcast

  • dont rap your controllers up it ruins em

  • EA, iv'e lost respect for you

  • wow. Sony DESTROYED Sega with just two consoles. SONY JUST DID WHAT NINTENDO WAS TRYING TO DO FOR 20 YEARS AND SONY DID IT IN ABOUT FIVE!

  • @XxTSUNAMISNIPERxX I think Sega was on the downturn before Sony even came into the picture. Even without the PS1 I think Sega would have eventually dropped out of the console wars.

  • @XxTSUNAMISNIPERxX ehm no... Nintendo was always on top of Sega, the NES sold much more than the Master System and the SNES sold much much more than the Genesis.. and with the N64 the Saturn was already half buried so Nintendo always pwned Sega... BUT Sony's PS1 was superior to the N64 and the PS2 was much better than the Gamecube so if Sega couldn't even reach Nintendo's popularity... trying to beat Sony's consoles was just a dream they couldn't reach. Sony has proved to be superior over years

  • @atseninsoCO I would have to agree, although the dreamcast had some amazing games. Only releasing 16 games on it's first day is poor, where as the ps2 had atleast twice that. another thing that pushed sony ahead of the rest was the supply and demand of the older generation who would actually purchase it for them selves. where as alot of adults back then wouldn't look at sega or nintendo's hardware due to the repeatedly childish games. sony shook it up with GTA 3, and therefor it died.

  • I'm sorry to say I pre-ordered the Playstation 2 and received it on 28th December 2000. The appeal at the time was that I could play my entire back catalogue of PS1 games and with the inclusion of the DVD player, it was a no brainer. I have seen a lot of Dreamcast videos recently and have decided to get myself a little piece of Sega history and invest in a Dreamcast with Shenmue 1 and 2. It's all about the gameplay and experiences you get. I'd have Shenmue over Black Ops all day long

  • i liked the dreamcast better than the ps2. back when i was in chicago, in 99, my dad bought me a dreamcast for christmas. about a year and a half later, my gramps bought me a ps2. i never really liked the ps2, for i think 3 months i never opened it from the box, i always played my dreamcast. it was only in early in 02 that i started playing my ps2 only because my parents decided to give my dreamcast to my cousin.

the only thing i liked about the ps2 better than dreamcast is its color. black.

  • if there was a dragonball game on the dreamcast then ppl including db fans would love the dreamcast imo

  • This video made me really sad at the end. :'(

  • i LOVE the dreamcast! :)

  • That's it buying one tomorrow!

  • Dude...imagine someone (or group) has everysingle game system, games, accessories, and clothing/merchandise....

  • @starfoxstarwolf5423 that be one big gaming nerd right thare

  • 7:20 to 8:50 made me cry because i love the dreamcast and ill never forget it and the coldplay song is my fave and sometimes makes me cry

  • @NJSthecool Me too dude

  • i wish i could work for sega, id force them to make a dc2, id design it all by myself so i can ensure no1 fucks up, it'd SO kick 360 and PS3s ass.

i somewhat love sega. they gotta come back, its THEIR duty, not sonys.

  • errr....coldplay ?

    Damn...It's awesome.

  • Great Job with this Episode. Thank you so much. I'm subing right now.

  • Great video. And im still a dreamcast lover. Do you have a facebook page?

  • historian lol !

  • this music makes me feel so sorry for the dreamcast... haha, makes it seem so tragic

  • If Sega reopened their hardware team, made some adjustments to the Dreamcast, while still making the original games able to play, they could sell millions in just weeks.

  • @avengful wat? he wasent even crying at all and the ending was the best part

  • THE ending music video could be a dreamcast add

  • I don't get why the PS2 being able to play DVD's was a big deal. If I'm buying a game system, I'm buying it to play games, not watch movies. I've got a DVD player for that.

  • @zeppelin1996 It was a huge deal back in 2000. PS2 was a lot cheaper of a DVD player than actual DVD players were at the time.

  • @zeppelin1996 you would save a lot of money

  • Finally, I get a clear explanation of why the Dreamcast failed. Thank you, Gaming Historian.

  • any one know if the gaming historyan is still making videos

  • why does the xbox controller look like the dreamcast controller

  • I first played golden axe/altered beast/streets of rage/ and sonic in the summer of 1992...SEGA FAN 4EVER!

  • It's true, I want a PSP so that I could play games like Project DIVA and sonic rivals 1 and 2, but I would rather break my back over a Dreamcast that's 30 dollars used at Game Force, than buy a PSP thats 100+ dollars. I grew up with sega, and even still today I play sonic 1. Always and forever a SEGA fan! <3

  • at 7:30 i had tears in my eyes

  • Goodbye Dreamcast (I actually feel a little like I am tearing up)

  • Long live the [damned] Dreamcast

  • i will all ways hate Sony for killing the dreamcast and for making me get a ps3 that is shit just to tell you and dud you are like the coolest guy ive evewr seen thank for making this awsome vid

  • @mrfreeruner1 sony did not make you buy a ps3, u could have gotten a wii or a 360...dreamcast wasnt getting any support it's not like sony put a gun to sega fans...people realized what was going on with the dreamcast and they went with the best system at the time

  • i will all ways hate Sony for killing the dreamcast and for making me get a ps3 that is shit just to tell you

  • @mrfreeruner1 i say that sony olnly had 1 great system, the Playstation

  • if they remade the dream cast,it could be an xbox but probably better

  • The Dreamcast was good. Sadly, Sony came along and buried the Dreamcast. The XBOX also did pretty much the same. The GameCube had only one foot in the grave, thanks to established franchises and a great reputation.

  • The little console that could, hehe :) I loved the Dreamcast. It was really sad to see it go, but hardcore gamers know today, that it was the standard for gaming quality at the time. Not withstanding the excellence of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft, but the Dreamcast was developed in an era where the quality of gaming was everything. The last console built by gamers, for gamers.

  • haha i had the fishing rod

  • how can i tell if i have a 56k adapter or broadband adapter

  • I hate the PS2 so what if it had dvd playback, my Xbox did and my PS2 broke 3 times
