  • What exactly does "Blaming disney" entail? It's very arbitrary and unproductive. Disney, like any company, has its flaws and it's a large corporation. Execs have different priorities from animators.

There are sources which acknowledge that there was Kimba inspiration (I believe it was a quote from Roy E. Disney) and some Disney animators who acknowledge the inspiration.

So yes, I agree that Disney should give its credit.

  • People if Disney was stealing stuff from kimba to make the lion king than why were they at one point going to try to make a kimba movie with the animators. The plan fell through but they were planning it before the lion king.

  • dont you people have a private life...? every click you take there's a stupid discussion about who's right... grow up

  • I love it

  • i say, DISNEYS A BUNCH OF GREEDY NIGGERS

  • Nothing Disney "owns" is genuine. Everything Disney "owns" is stolen material.

STOP BUYING DISNEY PRODUCTS YOU FUCKERS

  • I tried to tell them, but no one would listen to me 'cause I was only seven when it was in theatres. Now I rub against old ladies on the bus.

  • Disney, reaching a completely new level of laziness

  • As much as I love the Lion King. That shit is still stealing without giving credit.

  • Simba means "Lion" in Swahili

  • @JohnWDWCP Kimba is the rough Japanese translation

  • Everything can use a makeover.. and if(use that word lightly) disney did use kimba as inspiration or what ever you want to call it, then they should of gave them credit. But personaly, since i grew up with the lion king, i like it far more than kimba. But kimba is bad or anything :3

  • Do I care? Disney did it properly, what the hell was up with that anime? I like anime even the old ones, but looked horrid.

  • @Darkdog it was the 1960s you idiot and the idea maybe way before.too many to be a coincident and disney are bloodsucking hypocrites and thank god for dreamworks and pixar

  • @lum2ina Disney owns Pixar.

  • @canuck21 LOL that's where you're wrong honey. disney would be nothing without pixar and broadway and hans christian anderson. please get a history check. pixar is an independent company before disney...o and u know steve jobs was one of the head there?

  • @lum2ina What are you, 12 years old?!? Why do I have to get a history check? Did I say that Disney came up with Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty or Pinocchio? Most people know that those are classics written centuries ago. You're not unveiling anything new pal.

I am also not wrong when I say that Disney owns Pixar because it DOES. Disney bought Pixar in 2006. Yes, I know that Steve Jobs used to own Pixar. I also know that he bought it from George Lucas.

  • @canuck21 pixar was built in the late 80s and already running in 90s. and if you're talking about today they are releasing themselves from disney. and you know what movie critics credited "nothing's better than pixar's" (without crediting disney).

have you ever seen how disney pushed their workers in production, pixar-disney even stole the idea of presto, from a graduate who's looking for a job. THAT;S WHY PIXAR EMPLOYEE MOVED TO DREAMWORKS. dont just check ur sources in wikipedia

  • @lum2ina Listen. I don't know what's your freaking problem is. I don't know how many times do I have to say this, but I never said that Disney was original. Pixar is great and all but at the end of the day, Disney owns Pixar and that's that. I don't understand why you're trying so hard. I'm not pro Disney or anything, I just stated a fact. Yet again, you're forcing too much. Go take a pill and chill. Oh and BTW, DreamWorks Animation sucks.

  • @lum2ina You think you know so much, but what you know about Disney and Pixar is common knowledge; nothing to brag about. You wrote that I was wrong and went on and on, but for what? All I said was Disney owns Pixar and that's a FACT.

  • @Darkdog 1950's dude

  • damn disney is a rip off

  • all disney movies are rip offs

    disney doesnt make orginal stories

  • I heard from one of my teachers that if you change something at least 30% then copyright doesnt matter... Isnt changing the color and names and probably plot at least 30%?

  • @guess90210 ha what a smart teacher so copy and paste 30% of a report, type a shitty ending and your good? :D you should go to harvard

  • looool total rip. If they had admitted they borrowed the idea then it would be homage. If you don't give credit then it is theft.

  • I always thought LK ripped off Hamlet, everyone copies everyone anyway.

  • Just ask Matthew Broderick. He even admitted it.

  • Idk and rlly don't care... I luv the lion king movies :D

  • FYI, the Lion King is more a rip of Shakespeare's Hamlet than anything else...

  • @eiriklil it's not a rip off of Hamlet, it's a revisioning of Hamlet. There's a difference.

  • @NextToNothing123 Well, you say potato...

  • @eiriklil lol no

  • here is the deal: samba is hamlet and kimba is a legendary white lion that brought anime to europe. i like both kimba the white lion and the lion king though i like kimba better since he goes through a whole lot more than simba and grows differently. watch the 1989 series of kimba and you will see what i mean. the 1989 series has a darker story but its really good. and i'm not talking about the dub. simba's story is more like hamlet but then with a lion. so yeah

  • @EndlessOceanMew2 i meant to type simba in the first line

  • My childhood is ruined!

  • To clarify my last comment, yes of course lion king is better because its 35 years or so later and it has the budget of a disney motion picture film while kimba is tv series. Yet anyone who knows cartoon history will tell u kimba in its era was truly a one of a kind masterpiece ( 1930s wizard of oz is a masterpiece eventhough it would be shit today). The point isnt who is better, its DID THEY STEAL IT? AND YES THEY DID, the quality of the theft doesnt change the fact its a theft.

  • Stealing all the way, disney aren't capable of creating a story like this anyhow, they r just animators(very good ones though). And to the idiots who say its better, compare kimba to american cartoons of that era and u will see how far ahead it is.

  • stealing or not disney version was better

  • Since I don't like Anime, The Lion King is a remake that's far away better!!!!

  • @dolphinluv2413 i love anime but like its 1960 the production budget was like 2 freakin dollars haha plus disney has like a budget of 6 mil... so yeah XD

  • Comment removed

  • stealing but good

  • Let's face it: The Lion King makes Kimba look like the 1960's Batman series... sorry.

  • Homage! If anything the creaters of "Kimba The White Lion" should be thanking Disney for making Lion King, its so much better in every way XD

  • @Tuathalful can you get a life thank you XD

  • and lion king is better you know it is

  • Comment removed

  • @sophiebridgers thats not the issue

  • @thoratkinson15 ok the issue is for you people to get a life the movie was out in 1994 its 2012 let it go do you think Disney is losing sleep over this | _|

  • @thoratkinson15 sad

  • @sophiebridgers mad LOL

  • omg whatever the lion king is a great movie and kimba is a good show if you watched the show you would see how its different but you wouldn't do that would you

  • Neither.

  • Disney also stole ideas from japan for Atlantis, google Nadia vs Atlantis

  • So Disney completely rips off a story without giving credit/paying royalties, then later turns around and pushes an anti-piracy bill LOL

  • @mtrujillo457 It's the story of Disney... and every film they ever made...

  • @mtrujillo457 talk about bs

  • Disney! what fucking liars. They could have said it was a tribute to Kimba the white lion atleast.

  • Stealing or not, I can't help loving The lion king. It will always be my favorite movie.

  • Stealing, except for Kimba/Simba. Turns out "Simba" is Swahili for "lion".

  • STEALING FOREVER

  • Lol, I THANK you for making this. This is ridiculous, Disney

  • Stealing :p Though I still love the lion king xD

  • 正直言ってライオンキングクソつまらないと思いました。

    ジャングル大帝レオのほうがよっぽど面白いしキャラクターもかわいいですよね。

  • @TheJudgement98 あなたはファニーだ。

  • @TheJudgement98 I dunno man, I loved the Lion King!

  • @TheJudgement98 totally google translated this.

  • So, let's look at Disney's resume:

They kill off villains in the most gruesome ways imaginable (some have literally been dragged to Hell), one of their princesses might have Stockholm Syndrome, they made a documentary in which they threw lemmings off of a cliff (and received an Oscar for their work), and one of their biggest hits may have been an incredible rip off.

Yeah, it's safe to say that Disney is evil.

  • I'm Japanese, though. I say fair impression. Obviously Kimba pics are better.

  • lol fuck i hope they sued or got paid

  • Homage because Simba means lion in swahilli wich was the creators idea. And the story is based out of hamlet not Kimba.

  • Even if it was stolen, who cares the lion king was a lot better.

  • hmm... 1960's JAPAN... 1990's UNITED STATES... thirty years and a shit ton of miles... how many 1960's Americans watched Kimba the White Lion? probably slim to none... so as far as i'm concerned... who cares? I'm sure both were enjoyed, which is the point of movies/tv shows. Besides, there isn't an original idea left in the world anymore anyway.

  • Honestly, I've seen some episodes from Kimba and I was severly disappointed. Though I only watched the first two, it didn't really look like the Lion King. Though I may think differently if I watch the rest of the episodes.

  • Stealing

I liked the Lion King, but wise baboons, floating cloud lions, king's rock, the Simba Kimba thing, and the fact that the original Simba was WHITE make me believe that this was a rip off.

  • @Dogface1998 How is Kimba was WHITE has got to do with anything?

  • To be honest, I honestly don't believe that Disney actually decided to rip-off Kimba. I mean, the wise baboon and hyenas, yes, but.......... A warthog? Was the warthog a main character in Kimba?

  • Homage or stolen, I like Lion king better.

  • stealing for sure :/

  • true but in my opinion japanese style animation in general, minus Akira and Steamboy have terrible drawings and theyre flat and charmless

  • Disney did it well, japan sucked by the looks of it

  • @xburk Disney is BADASS!! But you mstu admit.. it IS a 30 eyar difference in movie making! XD

  • @xburk Don't judge the old show by it's age. If they had Lion King's budget, you would be blown away by it.

  • also, if you think Harry Potter's original, read Wizard's Hall by Jane Yolen

  • Oh come on guys. Look up some facts before you whine about stealing. The creator of Kimba the White Lion would have been honored that animation god DISNEY was inspired by his series. Tezuka's wife had even told that to the company after he had passed away. Besides, waaaay back in the day anime was actually inspired by, and the Japanese adaption of Disney animation. Everyone is inspired by each other. Also, Simba means lion in Swahili. No big surprise there. Tezuka just stuck in a K.

  • @Nupoe first of all, Kimba was a name given to him by the dubbers. The name Tezuka gave him is Leo. And according to the dubbers that are still alive, his name was supposed to be Simba (big surprise) but they had to change it because there was a black power softdrink at the time with that name. Second, even if he would be honored, disney's official statement is that they've never heard of Kimba. Even when Tezuka met Disney in 1964! They don't even give hime credit that he deserves.

  • coincidence? lol

  • @haoqh no.

  • Stealing! >(

  • If you give a million monkeys a type writer then at least one will write the works of Skakespere or something similer.

  • I have just lost ALL respect for Disney... This is copied! and what makes it worse is they didn't even TRY to make it different, even the name of the lion is almost identical.. Sad.

  • Stolen/copied or not, I think Tezuka wouldn't mind because he knew Disney and he even drew Bambi manga and paid homage to Disney many times (e.g. Astro Boy). So if it was really copied from "the Kamisama of manga" it doesn't really matter, we have two great stories and it's all we can ask for.

  • @DW923 Do you want to know what's really funny? Your lack of grammar! :D

    Try again next time.

  • Thanks Disney. You've ruined my impression of you because of this.

  • STEALING!!!

  • i call stealing

  • stealing

  • stealing!

  • I'd have to watch Kimba to decide if it was stolen/homaged or not, and I have no time. So I'm calling this one "Well, SOMEONE at Disney obviously saw Kimba, but who knows how deep it went?"

  • An homage is when you give credit to what you make a tribute to. Otherwise it's called stealing...

  • i didnt have to grow up in 1960 to know that beacuse i watched kimba when i was 6 on the computer of course.... and then i watched lion king and i was like O. o wth THERE ALMOST THE SAME!!! yep

  • so fucking stealing disney realy have a original idea

  • I actually like Disneys 'The Lion King' more than 'Kimba'.

  • Japan invented shows like "Wipeout" and "Hole in the Wall" and America stole it and implied it was a new idea. Not new news...

  • Well The Lion King was based off of Hamlet soooo...

  • @SIycan That is so dumb :D Most of the films you listed were originally fairy tales, it's not surprising there are many versions of them :D And Robin Hood existed, just not in that epic steal from the rich and give it the poor way. Snow White, for example, is a fairytale of the Brothers Grimm. Did you know, that they only collected these stories?

  • @SIycan obviously most of their films werent orignally from them (not sure about bambi though)after all, little mermaid, snow white, rrobin hood, beauty and the beast ect are stories that have existed with hundreds of variations for, in some cases, hundreds of years. to be honest, the only reason i would have a problem with the lion king is their out right lying that it was their idea (it wouldnt be a first time, but still)

  • @SIycan Hahahaha yeah. The Lion King, according to Disney, was Disney’s first movie that wasn’t based off anything else. But obviously it was copied. I actually am a Disney fan, but I’m willing to admit that they aren’t original at all.

  • good artists copy...bad artists steal. i think the movie is different enough to say they COPIED kimba the white lion.. but they didnt STEAL it. I guess disney knew what they were doin, cuuuz.... the lion king made a bigger impression

  • @batfan Of course it did. It had the budget for more detailed animation and the where with all to get international release in theaters. Had this show and it's animators had such resources it would have made just as much an impression. For some, growing up back then and now.. it did.

  • どちらも素晴らしい作品です。

  • Disney makes millions of dollars out of stolen things. When a kindergarten showed children "The Lion King", Disney claimed that it is a violation of copyrights. Disney should admit the thief and pay the percentage to Tezuka Production and credit the name. By the way, "Black Swan" also stole from "Perfect Blue" by a Japanese creator, who already passed away. I heard that Darren Aronofsky purchased the right of "Perfect Blue." But, there is not credit of the Japanese creator.

  • ITS A HUGE RIP OFF LOL DISNEY COPIED IT FROM KIMBA,AND THEY JUST DISGUISED ALL THE CHARACTERS,LOL

  • I just think its a coincidence

  • Claw is probably one of the most fail antagonists I know.

  • how is disney supposed to know?!?!??!?!??!

  • @InvisableINC I suppose you believe that Disney "had NO IDEA" that Kimba the white lion actually EXISTED?!Kimba was there SINCE 1965!!!!!!!!!!!

Generations of kids AROUND THE WORLD grew up with Kimba!Claiming that they didin't know is just retarded and unfair to Tezuka,in my opinion. As for the Kimba vs. Simba debate-I love BOTH.

  • @MissHelloMara plus the original concept art for the lion was simba to be white you can check that on the platinum edition dvd of the lion king

  • Renea1991 has a point, I mean who here doesn't like The Lion King?

  • Homage, the writer of Lion King was probably a big fan of Kimba. But still Disney give them some credit.

  • Even if it's stealing, The Lion King is still probably nicer. I have to say it.

  • @TaylorSwiftRoxMe It maybe true, because newer one can " stand on" older one...

  • its plagiarism plain and simple

  • Well but Disney's "Simba" is one million times better than the japanese cartoon "Kimba"

  • @Granpapayon How do you know? Have you watched it? I honestly think It's hit or miss, but all the best elements of The Lion King are present in Kimba, and a lot more.

  • @elbethere maybbe most of the elements of The Lion King are presented in Kimba's cartoon but it is not a copy, so you'll think that George of the jungle is a copy of Tarzan?

the plot is different in each one, there are characters that are nearly equal but the have different roles in each one. Is the same in the Lion King, and in Kimba there's not a Zazu or a Timon (the tucan and the meerkat, here in Mexico are the names of each one).

  • @Granpapayon Yes, I do think that George of the jungle is spoofing Tarzan. I think that's obvious. But it's different enough to be justified as an homage, or spoof. And actually your wrong, there is a Zazu counterpart in Kimba. While there is no Timon meerkat counterpart, there is a comic relief sidekick in the form of a gazelle. Furthermore, as I said, all plot and most character elements in Lion King are present in Kimba. You don't believe me just watch it. The video above is a dead give away.

  • @Granpapayon well yes, stories are completely different, but most of the scenes are practicaly identical.

  • Well Lion King could be a homage to not only Kimba but to the creator of Kimber who is also the creator of Astro Boy and Gigantor who was a big fan of disney films which he has passed away

  • Maybe Lion King did draw some influence from Kimba, but they don't have much in common. Yes, both are about a royal lion, and both the dads die, in Kimba's case before he was born. Kimba is like a Robin Hood story, him trying to bring all the animals together. Lion King was basically a mix of Hamlet and Moses.

  • Well, it's stealing. But Disney's got the better version :-) ♥

  • So... is this basically just one fandom battling another fandom? I love both Kimba and Simba. Although TLK is animated better, the plot, characters, and general impact of both are great, in my opinion. The Lion King is based off Kimba, of course, and it's not right that Disney gave no credit. But this was over 16 years ago. Can't we just accept the brilliance of both? :3

  • lol it's stealing

but it doesn't mean they didn't make a better movie out of it XD

  • stealing i luv lion king much better

  • Simba means "lion", so I don't think this would be the argument.

Even if Disney was inspired by the anime, it's not Kimba that wins from the comparison..

  • It was a total rip off come on.

    Kimba... Simba...

The dead dad. The uncle, aunt.

It was originally meant to be a homage, but then Disney acted like it was their total idea. Come on.

  • Disney shit

  • Oh, who cares! Kimba looks OLD and FAKE. Simba looks clearer, newer, and better! When I first watched Lion King, it touched my heart! Kimba was SOOO gay I couldn't even stand the first episode!

Plus, Kimba's original Japanese name was LEO not KIMBA!!! If the fucking Americans hadn't changed the names, Lion King wouldn't even BE a rip off! *spits on floor*

    KIMBA SUCKS! LION KING FOREVER!!!!!!

  • @thanhtran5 The Lion King is shit fucking disney fan

  • @kl24ntr stop it why r u arguing? if u dont like us disney fans then dont talk to us.

  • @noopdog9991 have to be blind not to notice the plagiarism

  • @kl24ntr I TRIED so FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKK UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • @thanhtran5 Guessing you're born after the 90s or so :P you really don't watch old school cartoons maybe Scooby Doo or some Looney Tunes but this cartoon was one of the first animes IN COLOR so ofc it's gonna look outdated but that's how these cartoons started you ignorant child, I love Disney and even I admit Disney stole Kimba, which btw is a cuter story and I wasn't born in the 60's or whatever and I find this as a classic artwork and a great story

  • @thanhtran5 so even though you say it sucks, it just goes to show you how closeminded you are about classic stories that inspire the cartoons you watch son :P

  • lol who cares? lion king kickass

  • Simba is better anyway

  • It's stealing but it doesn't change the fact that The Lion King is waaaay better. :)

  • Well if Disney has no problem stealing then I'm sure they should have no problem with me illegally downloading their movie! All I have to do is not acknowledge that I downloaded it illegally.

    Thank you Disney logic!

  • @xLupineRadiancex

Loved how you put it in this comment. Fuck Disney!

  • Stealing

  • Who cares. Love Lion King, stolen or not.

  • Except that it's come out several times now that lion king was originally intended to be a remake of kimba, but at some point some disney execs decided they didn't wanna dish out the royalties...so, yeh, they pretty much stole the thing wholesale. But that's cool, since they didn't play by their own rules, we don't really have to either. Bitorrent that shit!

  • I remember Kimba it was dubbed on pioneer video I always thought they were too close but no one else had ever seen Kimba so I kept it to myself... did you Hello Kitty has a sister named Mimi wonder what happened to her...

  • This is what happened.....Disney took the idea but didn't want to admit it. But to apologise, they became a great team with Japan. Look at the game "Kingdom hearts" Disney with Japanese anime. Look at the Toy Story series and Cars 2. All have something related to Japan. In the end, we should just respect Lion King for being a great movie. Yes, Kimba came first as an original. But I still love Lion King as my favorite disney movie.

  • Disney jerks steal everything. They have no originality.

  • Sure, Lion King may be better overall, but come on. Without a doubt, it's STEALING. Disney fan or not, you have got to admit it. >.>

  • Gotta say, Scar's far more badass than Claw.

    Claw makes me lol.

    Scar makes me shit bricks.

  • kimba is stolen --'

lion king is more original :p

    Kimba is just fake...

  • @CalistaGarretttNL Kimba came first

  • gay

  • definitely stealing. i love the lion king and i always will...b
