The ground changed very little until 1968 when they built the South Africa Road stand, much to the annoyance of people in the flats the other side of the road, who used to have a free view of the games! That dreadful Ellerslie Road stand followed, but I don't remember when.

In this newer style, the ground saw the attendance record in 1974, when 35,353 saw the home game against newly crowned champions Leeds. The ground looks very similar to how it did in 1985+, apart from becoming all seater.

They didn't get rid of that crappy old Ellerslie Road stand until the 1970s/80s. The stadium took Rangers through some great years but tinged with frustration, mostly when the team just missed out on the championship in 1976.

Strange how one or two of the crowd shots are clearly staged with actors - the 'fans' reacting to a miss with a chap flapping about with his hat

Amazing, but hasn't football changed in those 60 years? BTW Reg Harrison the Derby player in the video still attends at Pride Park.

Superb! Rangers went up as Div 3 champions at the end of the season. They lost the replay to this game at the Baseball Ground 5-0 a week later.
