Gah! Just had someone from Great Britain claiming to be Irish call me a plastic paddy cause I embrace my Irish/Mexican heritage. Both sides of my family are FULL of Irish.
To all my Irish brothers and sisters I got to say is one thing these men and women are people to respect and they died fighting for what they believed in and I got to say it is a pretty good way die they are true heros people wrothy of our respect.
Thank you Ireland for your brave sons who decided to join the side which was being marginalized on false pretext of "american blood on american soil".
The Irish inlisted in the U.S.army to become citicens for a country that clams freedom of religon but were punished for being catholic.mexico offerd them citicenship and land.there is to this day still Irish pueblos in mexico.I think American used the Irish to take mexicos territory then oukast them from mainstreem america.Im Mexican american and pround to be American but truth be told American didnt give a crap about the Irish or the Mexicans sad to say. God bless My Irish Brothers!
This was not a popular war in the US. lt was mainly the southerner slave holders who pushed for war. Its ironic that the cannons from Boston, the Boston Iron Works, that leveled Mexican towns, were turned on the South, and leveled New Orleans and many other southern cities to dust.
I love the song .. Love the Irish , I love and thank your ancestors for for fighting along my ancestors. I love your Beer ... and if the good people of Irland EVER need us Mexicans in any way we are just a call away and would be proud to stand beside you.
this to me makes no cense, mexico denied freedom to texas and california, texas won there freedom, then the mexicans invaded, so we fought back because texas joined the union and california declared independance,
@gmsm520 Americans brought to Texas slaves although they were few in number Mexican's hated d institution of slavery. 2 of Mexico's heroes for their war of independence were Afro-Mexican. Vicente Guerrero became d 1st black president in d Americas. Guerrero's Decree abolished slavery / they allowed it Texas. Mexicans in Texas began to help American slaves escape from their white masters-- Mexico did not deny freedom to Texas or California -- this issue is more complex than you think.
@sombraenlaluna i do not deny that the american army had the moral fortitude tho a rabid wolf. and after research i have to agree i actually might have been one of these irish on the mexican side if i was there. however if this was during the texan revolution i probably would have been on the texas rebel side if not simple for that irish rebel spirit, the need to strike out against the larger imperial feeling force. i think we ahve the british to thank for that feeling.
@gmsm520 yes thats what happened, and america is in iraq to help ppl.they also dont drop bombs on the innocent, its not bullets they fire, its candy and sunshine :-D

Why would the Irish sympathize with gringo settlers trying dictate the government policy of Mexico? (like Scot and English protestants were doing in Ireland.) IMO, that whole Texas sescession and annexation was primarily just a way to bring slavery back to the region (which was banned throughout Mexico in 1829.)
@AlaricxMalgraith yes but the mexican government practicaly invited US citizens to settle in the texas region, because there own people werent settaling it and by inviting US citizens they risked stoking the fire of slavory that had just simmered down. some abrasive actions were taken by the mexican gov. to try to ride texans of there slaves, which igniited the events that would lead up to the alamo. but slavory wasnt there main point in the song it was the US armys treatment of the mexicans
@jonluck77 The irish where all over i am scottish and i am proud of my celtic brothers the irish brigade fought for the americans and where the bravest infantry in the whole army suffering a 80 percent casuailty rate.
@JordoF6 they also were the batallion with more registered kills, im mexican btw, they fought shoulder to shoulder in the churubusco battle with the mexican generals Manuel Rincón and Pedro María Anaya, a bomb exploded in the gun powder keep and they ran out of ammo, then the texan general patrick dalton entered the fort asking for a formal surrender telling them to give the ammo and weapons , then the general anaya told him "If there were any ammo and weaponry, you wouldnn´t be here"

Ireland you must know that Mexico loves you. And every year Mexico celebrates your heritage and the St Patrick battalion. To Mexico you are heroes, and even though some people will give you negative comments and call you traitors, mostly Americans. Know that if Ireland is ever in need of help Mexico will be the first to lend you unconditional support. Thanks a million Ireland your people, your ancestors are never forgotten. We are brothers Long live Ireland, Long live Mexico!!
thank you Ireland for helping my ancestors. i love this vid Ireland joined USA then joined Mexico because they fought what they believed in knowing that they would lose still. god bless you,God bless Ireland,God bless Mexico, THANK YOU
What a nice song, though I doubt that the Irishmen did what they solely out of love for their religion or in opposition to the war. The members of this battalion had nothing due to the famine, had traveled to a strange land with nothing and Mexico offered them several acres of land a generous pension for serving the cause. The American Army offered only citizenship, and that was not much for an Irishman in America in the 1840s. Yes, I believe they fought for land and money.
@irelandsnumber1 of . course my dad is in the mexican navy .. and yeah . have a problem with any country .. mexico just bount a destroyer ( ship ) if you guys need it ..
As an American I say: Oh we hung those captured Irish tratiors as Chapultepec was stormed and fell!... As a man of Irish decent: I praise those Irishmen who fought for what they believed!
Batallón de San Patricio is not a subject in mexican schools, and it should be. Shows how ideals matter, and what people do to defend them, among many other beautiful human traits. Gracias, Batallón de de San Patricio. Erin Go Bragh.
I'm Irish on my mother's side, Spanish on my father's side. I'm of Acadian blood, which makes me French as well as Cajun and Canadian. Not sure if I have any Mexican relatives, though. I was born in Texas, where I have a good number of family. And I've spent nearly my entire life(so far)in Louisiana. I'm proud to be an American, though I don't always like the choices that government makes. I'm also a proud Rebel, and proud of my heritage, and blessed to be a Christian.
In Texas, the Mexican army completely together took 18 minutes to take down the Alamo. In Mexico, the USA army completely together took 1 day 24 hours to take down a Castle with only 6 kids inside. The castle fall into enemy hands, and the USA army hanged the Irish men out of the castle. If the Irish had put it's canons inside that castle Chapultepec. Chapultepec could had turn into a strong fortress.
The Irish were hanged to death right in front of the Castle of Chapultepec when the Mexican flag was down, and the USA flag went up, and the only ones protecting the castle were 6 kids for 24 hours. When the USA flag went up the Irish were hanged to death. The life of Irish where in the hands of 6 kids who fought day, and night until 6 kid. "Ninos heroes" The last kid throw him self with the Mexican flag on him from the very top of the castle all the way down the castle ground floor.
The Irish San Patricio's were not American, they were Mexican. The Irish soldiers need it to do time through immigration laws. Mexico had already give the Irish lands for fighting for Mexico. According to history the Irish watched as the Castle of Chapultepec was being defended by six kids. The USA army took one day one night to get to the top of that castle. Six Mexican kids killed 100's of USA soldiers, if the Irish had put their canons in that castle. The Irish would had won that fight
I am a 59 year old irish american. Raised in a first generation irish american family. I was unaware of the St Patrick batallion. I am also an american and get upset when america takes a global public relations beating. This being said while my loyalty is to my country, my heart belongs to ireland. I am especially proud to be of irish heritage in light of this new found information regarding the "san patricios".
@byng785 I have Irish in my family 6 generations ago (from my birth). I am descendant from a man who fought in the Saint Patrick's Battalion and died for Mexico, through a daughter's line. He was married less than a year before he died. My Great Grandfather was named after him. His name, was Abraham. Living in the US, you hear NOTHING of these men unless they are actually in your family history. I have Irish decent friends who've never heard of them either.
Traitors, yes. To a country that the believed was oppressive. What would you do, if you were part of the military and were ordered to do something you felt was morally wrong? Would you do what you felt was right, even if it was deemed treason, or would you do what you felt was right even if it was frowned upon.
If you did it, how could you live with yourself you did something wrong? If you also believe with God, do you tell Him that His laws are less important than that of men?
@agricola traitors? I think not, they were being forced to fight against their will, for what? so they could return to the country they were fighting for to signs like 'no dogs, no blacks and no Irish'! I call it taking a stand!
@agricola dont really see how their traitors since they where irish not american they owed nothing to america after all they did for you i am scottish btw.
I'm Mexican and I want to say, Viva Mexico! Viva Irlanda! Viva the St. Patrick brothers..
The Red-headed soldiers aside the brown-skinned! Our fallen brothers will never be forgotten! Dare I say, let us fight together again! Let us fight on the same side.. Emblazoned with the green flag of Erin Go Bragh, and El Aguila de Teotihuacan, as a unit we will stand and united we will fall.. Viva la Republica! Viva Ireland! Viva St. Patrick!
@KrnburnFan I am second generation irish american. I am often upset when america takes a a global public relations beating. This being said while my loalty is to my country, america, my heart belongs to ireland. I am especially proud to be of irish heritage in light of this new found information, i.e., newfound for me, regarding the "san patricios".
@byng785 My respect to you, Irish brother. It's also newfound to me, but now.. Now I have more respect for my country and our Irish brethren. Good to know another Irish, it's been 2 today!
Dude the fucking Cristeros were a bunch of pawns used by the Catholic Church Inc. to continue their strangle hold on Mexico during all those years. Oh really defending their freedom to practice religions, or to the defend the millions of acres and vast amount of political power that the church had in its power. Read up on your Mexican history.
The IRISH fought for Catholic Faith as did the CRISTEROS. The CRISTEROS were Mexican Catholics who fought against there own government. Mexico had an athiest president i believe in 1929 who was also a free mason. He closed and destroyed many beautiful churches and made it illegal practice your faith or attend church so many mexican Catholics rebelled Even priests fought in these battles. i encourage Catholics or any one with FAITH that did not know to look it up. VIVA IRLANDA VIVA LOS CRISTEROS
to be honest the irish didnt fight for catholicism they fought and died for freedom we know injustice when we see it and we wont buckle till its destroyed or removed, one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter dont forget that
@chekmobb down with you francoist, my grandfather died at the hands of the spanish fascists, he was american come to stand with his catalan, spanish, and basque brothers, he fell defending the valley Jarama. big brother is the pope.
From Dublin city to San Diego... I wonder if he would let me use that as a book title... I am writing a book on the subject if anyone's interested, look for it in 2012 on the shelves of a subversive bookstore near you.
Did u know that in most bars and restarants in mexico if u show the bartender or owner ur IRELAND passaport u get free drinks all day and night. Mexicans will never forget what those brave irish men did for freedom! VIVA MEXICO! VIVA IRLANDA!
Well, I consider myself a "Yank" but my ancestors came from Ireland and Germany after being oppressed in Europe. They wanted to make a new life for themselves and their offspring.
I don't support illegal immigration, but God knows we don't need anymore hardworking, Catholic, family-oriented Mexicans coming to the USA anymore...(sarcasm)
I've never heard of Saint Pat's battalion before but that's awesome. Erin Go Bragh and Viva Mexico!
@ksovosk not that nationality you are but I want to say that Americans have nothing, no culture, no religion or anything, historically only been invaders and predators
true courage and true heroes fighting for freedom whomever it's being denied... something US soldiers conquering their way through the middle east should take to heart...
The Irish I say are the ones who have the most in common with mexicans. 1st we were both oppress our land was stolen we both are spit upon for being immigrants. The yanks treated the irish like shit called them the niggers of Europe and such now the same is being done to the mexicans
God bless the Mexicans who died fighting tyrants and imperialism! God bless my Irish bothers who chose to defend the just. Dios bendiga a los mexicanos que murieron luchando contra los tiranos y el imperialismo! Dios bendiga a mi molesta irlandeses que optó por defender lo justo
So why were the Irish mentioned with Treason - The Americans were commiting atrocities! If there had of been war crimes tribunal - many an American would have been charged but instead of the Idea of the Irish fighting for justice we get TREASON splattered on the screen!! Shame on you!
@Greer1888 I think he was being ironic. If you listen to the song you hear that he is appalauding the Irish who deserted the US army and fought for teh Mexicans as they saw it as similar to their struggle in ireland.
@Greer1888 Thats because the Irish volunteers going to the other side was an act of treason during time war of war. Im sure not every Irishman went but these handfull of objectors to the war, instead of going to Canada, they sympathized with the oppressed and joined their ranks. Bless their hearts and souls.
Treason is a badge of honor in the U.S. today. The government has been hijacked by corrupt bankers and corporations. Anyone who is labelled a traitor by the U.S. government can hold their heads high.
que viva Irlanda son los mas valientes como Mexicano yo los respeto y ulisses Grant tenia rason la guerra era muy injusta porque no se fueron contra russia
give me a F give me a U give me a C give me a K give me a Y give me a O give me a U whats that spell ? FUCK YOU :D what treason ? you invaded a country that didnt do any harm
I'm Venezuelan. Lived in Ireland and I totally admire their spirit and their brave nature. Still today they will fight for any cause or nation just to deliever their freedom. I love Ireland and Irish people! I wish they will keep spreading all over the world to give the best of them to other cultures! Please Irish people come to Venezuela and save us from CHAVEZ!!!
gloria al batallon de san patricio: y agradecimiento eterno a estos valientes, mexico siempre recordara su acto de justicia y perpetuara su memoria como un acto de valor y en defensa de sus ideales
Im Irish and i think Mexico repaid some of this favour the other nite by beating France for us, the Mexicans played with the courage of the St Patricks Battalion.
Only a matter of time before we become a United nation once again. Catholics nearly have the majority in the North and well take it to the ballet

@yeonnie2go thank you very much! when i read your comment and listed to this song tears flooded my eyes.. muchas gracias gran señora que dios te bendiga.
@yeonnie2go I just recently learned that I am descendant from an Irishman who fought in the San Patricios and died for Mexico during the Mexican-American War. I remember vaguely my grandmother talking about her father's grandfather in the San Patricios, years ago. Being a kid, I didn't think much of it. But now as an adult, I can now appreciate what that meant. It's sad THAT portion of history isn't taught in the US. Most Irish decent friends I have (5+ generations) know nothing of them.
hello my name is Peter and I doing a family tree. All of my research has led me to believe that my Great Great Grandfather was one of men of the San Patricios. I would like to do more research on this and would be happy to share my research with you. thank you.
@yeonnie2go I find myself extremely proud to have Irish blood in my family, and that the Irish blood was of the San Patricios. I'm a fair skinned Hispanic male, with brown and auburn hair. I also stand at 6'2" when the average Hispanic male stands at only 5'8". With the birth of my nephew, it makes our connection to the San Patricios 7 generations ago. I wish I could one day meet an Irishman or woman who knows of the San Patricios, as I am only now beginning to understand it all.

X4SerioX4ese 11 months ago 3
The Irish were hanged to death right in front of the Castle of Chapultepec when the Mexican flag was down, and the USA flag went up, and the only ones protecting the castle were 6 kids for 24 hours. When the USA flag went up the Irish were hanged to death. The life of Irish where in the hands of 6 kids who fought day, and night until 6 kid. "Ninos heroes" The last kid throw him self with the Mexican flag on him from the very top of the castle all the way down the castle ground floor.
X4SerioX4ese 11 months ago 2

@agricola

The IRISH fought for Catholic Faith as did the CRISTEROS. The CRISTEROS were Mexican Catholics who fought against there own government. Mexico had an athiest president i believe in 1929 who was also a free mason. He closed and destroyed many beautiful churches and made it illegal practice your faith or attend church so many mexican Catholics rebelled Even priests fought in these battles. i encourage Catholics or any one with FAITH that did not know to look it up. VIVA IRLANDA VIVA LOS CRISTEROS

Even some of the stereotypes in the U.S. towards the Mexican and Irish are the same.
For example:
Drunken fathers, grandfathers, etc.
Extremely religious (fanatics, really)
Procreate like bunnys (hahaha)
Love to fight (i guess there's some truth to this one because some of the best boxers in the world have been Mexican and Irish.)

Greer1888 1 year ago
@Greer1888 I think he was being ironic. If you listen to the song you hear that he is appalauding the Irish who deserted the US army and fought for teh Mexicans as they saw it as similar to their struggle in ireland.
grassic 1 year ago
@Greer1888 Thats because the Irish volunteers going to the other side was an act of treason during time war of war. Im sure not every Irishman went but these handfull of objectors to the war, instead of going to Canada, they sympathized with the oppressed and joined their ranks. Bless their hearts and souls.
Mosin54r 1 year ago 4

Treason is a badge of honor in the U.S. today. The government has been hijacked by corrupt bankers and corporations. Anyone who is labelled a traitor by the U.S. government can hold their heads high.

GeneralKenobiSIYE 11 months ago 2
@GeneralKenobiSIYE
hello my name is Peter and I doing a family tree. All of my research has led me to believe that my Great Great Grandfather was one of men of the San Patricios. I would like to do more research on this and would be happy to share my research with you. thank you.
PeterAGonzalez57 10 months ago 3
@yeonnie2go I find myself extremely proud to have Irish blood in my family, and that the Irish blood was of the San Patricios. I'm a fair skinned Hispanic male, with brown and auburn hair. I also stand at 6'2" when the average Hispanic male stands at only 5'8". With the birth of my nephew, it makes our connection to the San Patricios 7 generations ago. I wish I could one day meet an Irishman or woman who knows of the San Patricios, as I am only now beginning to understand it all.
