i would like to think that she is singing about keith--but maybe she is singing about somebody else. i would like to think george is singing about tammy--but maybe it is just another generic song. god bless tammy wynette and ketih whitley.
Dear Dawnjakeleah, Mrs. Kershaw did not write this, as a fact Tammy Wynette's late husband, George (Richy)Richardson with Norro Wilson wrote this song in 1972, and George Jones released it on an album that year. It is rumored that after Lorreta Lynn Morgan recorded this she cried saying, "it sounds hollow compared to Jones' version", but that is just rumors:)
Lorrie Morgan is an amazing singer. I know where she lives and she is related to me. She is a cousin on my mom's side of the family. She is so beautiful. I idolize her now that I know her.
@denverlover1 I met Lorrie many, many years ago in Tallahassee, FL at the fairgrounds. Later the next day I ran into her getting off the bus at the Governor's Square Mall. She stopped and said hello and then went shopping in Victoria Secret. She is my favorite (then and still now) female singer. They don't make 'em like her now. I have found her son, Jesse, on YouTube and can't wait till he hits it big. Keith was one of the greatest male singers of all time. He left us too soon. God Bless ALL!
George Jones and Lori Morgan do a wonderful job on this song. George Jones is one of my favorite singers and he can do so much with his voice. Lori Morgan always surprises me with what she wears. You never know, but she wears everything very well. Thanks for sharing this song. ALL Stars & Thumbs Up!! Gwen Weaver
I hope beyond hope that all of these comments were written by girls, cause not one of them mentions how absolutely perfect lorrie is to the eye as well as to the ear
Both are awsome singers. I really didn't care for these two singing together. George is "older" country and well, he'd been able to pulled this song off better with Tanya Tucker, Loretta Lynn, etc... Just my opinion so no one start jumping my arse. >:P
Man can she sing! Jones had some great songs. Nice to hear someone who can sing them so well and make them sound so much better than they ever did. He sure did a wonderful job with the harmony!
wow, she sure does this great. One nice thing is to listen to lorrie sing the great jones songs. At least it's nice to hear the great songs he had by someone with a good voice!!
Met Lorrie backstage at a benefit concert in Nashville...She is even hotter than she looks here...and what a voice and talent...a woman who's got it all!
Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, and 90% of what is called talent in Nashville couldn't find the word in a dictionary if you gave them the first five letters!
No frankbalck - I don't see what happened here. I am so glad we have you to point all this out to us dummies. And it is not a G Jones song. I love Jones, just not jumping up and down with your idea of what is going on in this video.
Ms Morgan has a beautiful voice, but she's No Tammy. George rocks. Thank God he's living sober so we all can still hear and see him perform. May he be with us a long time.
george morgan did not write it, but it is a George Jones song, Lorrie covered it. George recorded it in 1972. Lorrie covered it in 1992 for her album Something In Red
well.. George Richey, Norris Wilson wrote this song... and it was a hit for George Jones .. before Lorrie M covered it.. but she sings it with so much emotion...... the song became hers... Lorrie is greatness!
This is why I can't listen to the crap they call country today. I grew up in the middle of L.A. in the '60s and '70s and was never particularly inclined toward country, but good music is good music--and this is just great. More Jones, Haggard, guys like that...more throwbacks like Lorrie Morgan (what's she doing these days, anyway?)...less Rascal Flatts. Please.
Can't agree with you more! And this beautiful version of a beautiful song by a beautiful woman with movie-star looks...country music doesn't get any better!
@emncaity you just answered your own question. you grew up in L.A. in nashville lorrie is revered. she is a solid performer on the grand ole opry. us old folks don't want to hear another song about taylor swifts's last boyfriend. she is the justin bieber of country music. if you really appreciate country--you want to hear all the people who are not on the country music channel. that is kiddie music.
? Either I'm not reading your response correctly, or maybe you're misunderstanding what I said. I thought Lorrie Morgan was terrific (as with any artist, there are tracks I could do without, but still), and I think she's got that old-line feel to her that makes her a great fit for a duet with Jones. I grew up around people whose parents had come from Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, etc., and you might be surprised...
@emncaity i guess i misunterstood. seemed like you were calling lorrie a has been. i am always willing and able to say i am sorry--people from nashville love lorrie--and she is a staple on the grand ole opry
...or maybe you wouldn't be surprised--at how many genuine country fans there are out there. In the rural areas of California (you may have heard of the Bakersfield sound in country), Merle Haggard was absolutely huge.
I also know a lot of people in Texas, Oklahoma, etc., who are all crazy about the Taylor Swifts (who seems like a good kid, but...) and (retch) the Rascal Flatts and such. Abominable. Country ought to be more than pop with a singer who has an accent.
@emncaity of course i have heard of bakersfield--my mom used to be in love with buck owens--and i love to see dwight yoakam perform in the tight pants. we may have misunderstood each other. i lived in nashville for a long time--and we love lorrie
@emncaity You said it One of my favs is Dwight Yoakam, but nashville has never given him the time of day, he has such a great voice, now days they just want taylor swift types
This song is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I had never heard of Lorrie Morgan before in my whole life. Idk why I have never heard her. She is sooo talented and very pretty. And Geoge Jones didn't do too bad himself. :)
Do you see what happened here? Lorrie, a wonderful singer, is performing George's song. Make no mistake this is a George Jones song. George comes out more than half way through the song--not to take over, not even to sing lead for a verse. The man comes out to sing harmony on his own song and it is just BEAUTIFULLY done. This is one whole heck of a guy in the history of American music--what a hell of a voice. There's no one better....maybe a few just as good, but no one is better than George.
You're so right...I got a kick out of seeing how Jones plays it as a "background" or harmony singer...when it's actually HIS song! I guess it's a testimony to how close he feels to Lorrie, the daughter of his late great friend George Morgan!
@frankbalck Hi..........I right there with you...................I love George Jones and you know after his wreck he was so depressed he would not see anyone except Vestal Goodman, Southern Gospel Music. She lead him to the Lord and he sings gospel songs now, also. Like you said he' a full circle whole heck of a man. As mentioned also a few as good....................I love to hear Ricky Van Shelton...............Gwen Weaver 5-26-2010
@frankbalck I was watching him hold back on the mic thinking what a guy, singing harmony with Lorrie. The two don't look comfortable together, but both are great voices and George has sung with so many women partners he just melts into the song naturally
