Dear Dawnjakeleah, Mrs. Kershaw did not write this, as a fact Tammy Wynette's late husband, George (Richy)Richardson with Norro Wilson wrote this song in 1972, and George Jones released it on an album that year. It is rumored that after Lorreta Lynn Morgan recorded this she cried saying, "it sounds hollow compared to Jones' version", but that is just rumors:)

@denverlover1 I met Lorrie many, many years ago in Tallahassee, FL at the fairgrounds. Later the next day I ran into her getting off the bus at the Governor's Square Mall. She stopped and said hello and then went shopping in Victoria Secret. She is my favorite (then and still now) female singer. They don't make 'em like her now. I have found her son, Jesse, on YouTube and can't wait till he hits it big. Keith was one of the greatest male singers of all time. He left us too soon. God Bless ALL!

This is why I can't listen to the crap they call country today. I grew up in the middle of L.A. in the '60s and '70s and was never particularly inclined toward country, but good music is good music--and this is just great. More Jones, Haggard, guys like that...more throwbacks like Lorrie Morgan (what's she doing these days, anyway?)...less Rascal Flatts. Please.

I thought Lorrie Morgan was terrific (as with any artist, there are tracks I could do without, but still), and I think she's got that old-line feel to her that makes her a great fit for a duet with Jones. I grew up around people whose parents had come from Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, etc., and you might be surprised...

...or maybe you wouldn't be surprised--at how many genuine country fans there are out there. In the rural areas of California (you may have heard of the Bakersfield sound in country), Merle Haggard was absolutely huge.

I also know a lot of people in Texas, Oklahoma, etc., who are all crazy about the Taylor Swifts (who seems like a good kid, but...) and (retch) the Rascal Flatts and such. Abominable. Country ought to be more than pop with a singer who has an accent.

Do you see what happened here? Lorrie, a wonderful singer, is performing George's song. Make no mistake this is a George Jones song. George comes out more than half way through the song--not to take over, not even to sing lead for a verse. The man comes out to sing harmony on his own song and it is just BEAUTIFULLY done. This is one whole heck of a guy in the history of American music--what a hell of a voice. There's no one better....maybe a few just as good, but no one is better than George.
