  • hey i am currently working on a project requiring rib stitch, and i am learning the purl stitch, thanks to you. But i can't really figure out if what i did was right or wrong. is there any way you can help?

  • @noobishuberpknu Sure, feel free to send me a video response :) I try to answer as many questions as possible.

  • Great video! I think I've got it. I just wish someone could check it for me to make sure it's right and I'm not just inventing my own stitch... LOL

  • @u62philo Feel free to send a video response of your work, I'd be happy to check it as long as I can see what you're doing!

  • Thank you!! This video helped me have my ahHA! moment for purl stitch (which had been kicking my butt for the past 2 days!!) I'm no longer grappling with the needles, it was fantastic! I don't know what it was about THIS video specifically (as opposed to the dozen or so other videos I looked up) but it did the trick. I will definitely check out some of the other ones. Thank you again, so much!

  • Thank you so much, these videos have simplified things for me.

  • Thank you so much

  • omg thx now i can make fingerless gloves

  • for some reason my purl stitches look like the knit stitches... :/

  • thank u very much for showing dis video

  • Oooh. This is so much easier now that I can see it instead of trying to listen to my mother saying "It's just a normal stitch backwards". Now I understand what she means.

  • thanks! i struggeled a bit cuz i couldnt see wat u were doin, now i can finally understand cuz i had to play it frame-by-frame

  • Can you please do this as a left handed purl stitch please?..

  • Sure thing!

  • Thank u...

  • Ok so I tried to do it I sucked so I did the outher one and got it :)

  • thank you thank you

  • Don't understand the last step, after wrapping the yarn around the needle.... anyone can clarify this for me? What do I do exactly?

  • thank you so much!

    Best knitting tutorials ever!

  • Thanks But When I tried It, One row is the knitting pattern and one row is purl. Help!

    :[

  • hey, i'm just wondering if you have to slip the first knot when knitting, i've heard some people tell me to slip the first knot and others telling me not to cause it's 'weird' , i'm just totally confused...

  • I struggled with the yarn all day long yesterday but I've finally got it. Thanks to the video

  • grr when I do it it's like a big freaking mess. I think I'll get Mum to show me lol

  • I keep messing up when trying to do this stitch. The video sure does help. I had been doing it all wrong.

  • These videos are very helpful, thank you :o)

  • That stich is so easy! I have been only knitting that stich for like a (1) day and I can already do it fast! Easy stich and cute one 2 ;D!

  • You, by far, have the best knitting tutorial videos. Thank you!

  • 1 of the scarves i knit looks just like that XD purple and everything

  • Thank you, I have watched a ton of videos trying to figure out how this stitch is done, I dont know what was different but I just watched you do the first one and i was like "OH, I SEE" its so simple now thanks again.

  • how do i know if i am really doing the purl stitch? is there some special trick? it looks the same as my knit stitch...

  • what epic song is this?

  • I am trying to do the directions exactly like this video says but it keeps turning into the garter stitch instead of the purl stitch look.... I cant figure out what I am doing wrong.

  • I got the same problem as you =(

  • It becomes gater stitch if you either purl every row or knit every row in a piece. To get flat, stockinette stitch you must knit one row and then purl the next. Alternate these two rows. Purl the purl side, knit the knit side.

  • I've got that problem too. I really want to do the stockinette stitch and it keeps on looking like garter...... And I STILL don't get it!

  • I sent you pics of the item I learned how to knit with your videos! :)

  • thank u i never would of known which way the wool goes round on pearl stich

  • kewlio

  • I have tried and tried to teach myself knitting with books and I can't read a pattern to save my life and I also can't afford lessons. You are amazing. Thank you so much.

  • as many times as i could never learn how to purl i just did it thanks to you!! so now i know the garter, purl and now stockinette...thank you!!!

  • are there any similar videos that are extremely helpful like this one, but on how to make things, like a hat or something?!

  • You have so much patience in teaching! Believe me when I say this that I have never done anything of this sort earlier. My mom would happily finish my home science projects at school for me. I learned to knit basic and purl through you and I am hooked!!! Thanks a ton and keep up the great work. I am spreading the video links to my other friendsd to show just how easy it is to knit!

  • thanks for the videos. I was up late on night and I looked up knitting and ur videos taught me how! i've made 3 scarfs thanks to your videos! thanks again!

  • very clear and helpful!!!

  • thanks so much...you have just help me solve my knitting problem.thanks so much for the list...i was doing it wrong the whole time...

  • It's been years since I've knitted. But after practicing with the video, I'm hooked again!

  • I learned how to knit thanks to your videos. Thank you so much! I never thought I could do it

  • Congratulations! That's wonderful to hear.

  • So simple, but these videos are a life savor! I finally know how to pearl!

  • Oh my god! I have been knitting for like two years now (not a lot though) and I JUST realized I was doing the knit and purl stitch wrong. Argh!

  • thank you sooooooooooooo helpful...excellent

  • Hi, your videos helped me a lot to learn all the stitches....thanks a lot....but iam getting confused at selvage stitch....can you please show us that stitch...thank you.

  • Thanks for this video, it has really helped me, i realised i wasnt pulling the purl stitch off at the end of each stitch for some reason! Your video was very clear!!! :P

  • Thank you so much! I've always wanted to learn this stitch!

  • I have taught myself to knit from your videos alone! I've tried looking at others but they always confused me! GREAT STUFF HERE! Thank you!

  • this is the best video that i have been able to find on the internet! thank you so much.

and would you happen to have a video that would make knitting mittens easier? that would be lovely!

  • I have learned to knit solely from your videos, there are classes in my area but they are 45$ an hour and I just can't afford it! These have really helped. Thanks so much!

  • how do you purl the last stitch?

  • Oh. So it's basically just a reverse garter stitch.

Thanks! I've been trying to learn purl for a while, now. This was great.

  • Exactly! And thanks!

  • I've been wanting to learn to knit, but I've seen and read so many different things I thought it too confusing, UNTIL I saw your videos. They are so well made that I'm no longer 'afraid' to get started. Thanks so much!! You'll be helping out alot of people!

  • Thank you!

  • Damn, your videos are the best.

  • Wow, thank you :)

  • I learned to knit when I was six years old thanks to my grandmother and I promptly forgot how to do it. I'd been meaning to pick it back up for years, but figured I'd have to take a class and I never had the time. Thank-you so much for these videos! I just made two pot holders and I'm feeling rather inordinately pleased with myself. Thank-you a million times for these videos!

  • That's awesome, thanks for the feedback!

  • I just purled for the first time, and I don't even know if purled is a word. Thanks so much!

  • Wow! For some reason...this just completely worked for me. I've watched so many other videos and never really got it. But finally, after this, and any of your videos, I now know how to cast on, knit & purl! So excited! Thank you very much

  • omg thank you thank you thank you thank you! i've looked at so many videos trying to explain the purl stitch and urs is the only! one that actually showed it and how to do it, thank you! I thought i was going to rip my computer out of the wall if I couldn't find someone good

  • Great video, very useful. The only thing i don't understand is that i knit one row, and purl the next, and i guess i'm making a stockinette stitch? the stitches look like purl stitches but their upsidedown, however when i purl on it's own it comes out plain?

  • how do you get rid of the excess string left after you cut it?

  • I don't knit, but I do crochet... Get a yarn needle or crochet hook and just weave the ends in. At least that's how I do it, but I've made up a lot of stuff as I go! And to the maker of this post, this is such a great video and I can't wait to get started! You really do make it look easy.

  • I need your expert advice! I am making a scarf. The pattern is row 1: k k k p p p etc. then row 2 p k p k etc Every time I switch from knit to purl I mess up. I double the amount of loops on the stick. Can you help me??? PLEASE HELP!

  • i dont get it so in the beggining u started out doing the knit stitch and then after that u do the purl stitch. on the last part u said to knit this row, and purl this row knit, knit this row, etc.. how do u do it?

  • The beginning of the video started with the purl stitch being demonstrated on a piece that had already been started.

The stockinette stitch (as noted in the video) is made by knitting one row, purl the next row, knit the next row. That's what that example is showing - one of the uses for the purl stitch.

  • thank you!

  • Yep. Basically, just keep repeating the stitches. :) A purl stitch basically is a backwards knit stitch. I know it sounds confusing but once you get it, the knit and purl stitches will give you unlimited design options. What is confusing you the most about the video? Perhaps I can come up with another way of showing how to do it.

  • o, so you go in front from the right, i thought you go in front from the left. it got so frustrating when i tried to purl.
