My dad 'candled' his Gilbert molds before pouring LEAD into them, after clamping. Would love to see a video of the old time toy soldier factories of the 1930's DIY sets...
this inspired me im gonna get all the supplies 4 christmas then start making and selling them on ebay but make some for myself for a huuuuge colection
wow! awesome ! these such a great art , can you make more casting and painting video clips they are soo ,great and where did you get that melting machine , Maestro!
Great work mannie. Love the video & the toy soldiers look great. Have you tried dusting the molds with talcum powder before casting. It helps protect the molds & let the air escape when poring
Indeed, your comment on type metal is correct...back in junior high metal shop in our foundry segment, we used sand molds for that stuff!

how much money would this cost all together?

Nick,
The casting pot cost me about 65 bucks new, the pewter I get at scrap value, and the molds appear often on ebay usually for between $8.00 and $20.00.
Good luck!

That really makes the modelling hobby cheap and pleasant. Wouldn't want to calculate how much money I spent on those neat iron warhammer figures.
