Back again for another few listens..man, this piece of great music personifies so many of my summers. There are so many emotionally moving memories tied to this song that my heart goes from one end of the thought spectrum, all the way back to the other end..and then it does it all over again with an entirely different set of feelings. Mostly I think of Trudy.."dreams, they come and go, but thoughts of her are like a floor show..I'll never stop loving you Trudy...
This is one of those tunes that comes over the radio on occasion and it causes me to pull over, lay my head back, and reminisce of times worth remembering and the girls who I'd love to dedicate this song to. It's a perfect song to listen to when you wish to revisit your nostalgic and best memories of the 80s. That's why it has the autoplay spot on my channel page. Thanks Eddie for such magnificent and beautiful memories.
What an awesome example of how truly great the music of the 80s was, cheesy videos and all. Simple beat, gentle rhythm, words that are easy on the mind, and a theme about love lost and love gained that we all can relate to it one way or another. Thanks for the upload as I listen to this 3 or 4 times a day.
@avadimasuay hey dingbat...Schwartz wrote the damn song and America covered it years later. He also wrote "hit with me with your best shot" for Pat Benatar.
@bigseer Absolutely! And Meatloaf did a cover of it too. Not a bad rendition, but this original by Eddie is simply awesome. A perfect song to be playing loud as you cruise down the highway on a sunny summer afternoon.
*repeated comment* - I'm listening to this a dozen times a day. It brings it all back, right down to the raw emotion of the pain from a heart that had been melted like a beeswax candle in a bonfire. I think of Annabel, Sharon, and MaryAnn and I cry so hard because they were taken from us too soon. They were all special girls. And I think of Jocelyn, Sylvie, and Trudy and I cry even harder because they were taken from ME all too soon. Special girls..every one of them.
Not sure if I said this before (yeah right, as if anyone's keeping track) but this is a beautiful song and a very nice video to go with it ........ now it's part of my 'coolest videos' playlist.
And let's not forget his songwriting partner Dave Tyson who co-wrote this and other great songs like "black velvet" by alanah myles and "birmingham" and "dark horse" by amanda marshall. Impeccable Keyboard work on this track by Tyson as well. Truly, one of the top ten best songs from that decade without a doubt. Canadians are incredible song writers and singers. I could go on about the songs Bryan Adams wrote for others as well.
Loved this song/ Eddie and the video/ was fun to watch being filmed, this was my 1960 T-Bird.my name is Larry C. Rogers and Eddie asked if he could borrow my car for the shoot/ he is a great guy very talented and has a giving heart. he supported my dream to be a better songwriter. thanks .

This song is magnificent. When it comes over my mp3 system in the car, I have to listen to it 10 times in a row. Timeless memories of eras that I'd give all my remaining years to have back for one summer. I can hardly comprehend where all the time has gone..and trying bring the feelings to mind that this song conjures up is impossible to do without the tears that come with it. I've got to get working on that time machine...

This is ong popped into my head this morning, so glad to remember it, it is for my beloved cat, Mandy, who I lost a few months ago, she was a special girl, and the love of my life, so now it is a song for her. and when I lost her, I lost everything.
Hi!, Thanks a lot for sharing this. I watched this video a long time back, when I was about 12 years, now I'm 36, but I still remember the tune and I was looking for this for a long time. I used to hum this when I was small... :) Thank you!!!

My favourite part of the video, is when Eddie jams with his guitar at 1:59 and you can really see complex rhythm he imparts into the song with his body movements. Almost like an 80s Bill Haley.
Smooth 'cruisin' down the lakefront' music. I found this and right away sent it to a long lost love as a reminder that she was a "special girl", and will always hold the lease on a corner of my heart where nobody else goes but her and I.
love this tune...never forget when i heard it first...forgot about it for the last 20 yrs...recently rediscovered/remembered and play it all the time now..
Wow great song, love the keyboard very nostalgic...I think this was filmed in the backroads of southern Ontario near Perth County (Stratford/Milverton). Anyone have any idea?

@riffharder1 interesting background info! always found this a haunting song...

Fantastic song, always thought Jim Steinman wrote this.
I think Eddie's more delicate vocals and softer riffs give the song a more thoughtful, haunting feel than Meatloaf's operatic delivery.
I listened to it a lot in the Summers of 96/97.
