  • Both Original and Opeth's version, AMAZING

  • I had only heard the Opeth version up until now, but wow! This is mind blowing! As much as I love Opeth's cover, I find this to be better. It has a very sincere kind of magic to it, something I think only the original composer would be able to pull off.

  • What I like the most is that everybody here is an opeth fan and that what counts the most

  • Both versions are godly. And anyway, it's everyone's own subjective view, so there's no bad or good version :)

  • Mikael Akerfeldt is god! <3

  • Opeth version is better, heh.

  • I think the two versions are good in the same way. Both voices are beautiful!

  • @miguelrivoch Agree, both versions are amazingly good :)

  • I prefer Opeth's version

  • I like the original version more. :D

Opeth's is awesome as well. ^-^

  • probably whatever version of this song you listen to first will be the one that you prefer. it's just an amazing song. and the first time you hear it, it will stick in your memory as that version.

  • Opeth does it better, but the song is just amazing.

  • Den här låten gör sig inte alls bra till mickes röst. Opeth är kanske det bästa bandet jag hört. Men just denna är nog marie fredrikssons...

  • Opeth does it better, still awesome though

  • Amazing song, But I prefer the version of Opeth, and I'm a big fan of Alice In Chains, I still prefer the version of Opeth's 'Would', but we have to thank all the artists who influenced the band and all composers. Just my opinion

  • @Shishiwakarashi

Gotta disagree on "Would?". Mikael's voice doesn't really fit the song as well for me, especially in the ending section. I kind of do prefer Opeth's guitar solos in the cover to the original, though.

  • covered version by opeth has not any differences from this!... no need to compare or discuss them

  • @nevermind119 Male singer? Different production? Opeth?

  • As a big fan of Opeth: no, their cover isn't better.

  • and she's regarded as a pop artist.... come on, listen to that music and lyrics.... they are dark asl hell in their meaning

  • This song is very nice; relaxing.

But I have to agree with the comments regarding Opeth. - Every song they cover turns out better [in my humble opinion] than the original artists version.

Another great example of this would be the cover of Alice in Chains - ' Would? '

  • @BallPython85 Im sorry but they really did a terrible job with Alice in Chains. The vocals were no wear near as good as Layne Staley. I can't even listen to it. I sing it better myself.

  • @Crucifuck "nowhere" had to correct for the spelling police.

  • this song is PERFECT for a Metal Gear Solid game

    snaaakkee!!!

  • absolutely haunting

  • Respect to an original version

But the truth is Opeth's version is better

  • OPETH

  • I love this song, remember it from my childhood. Quite sad, fits the mood of the Swedish autumn perfectly.

  • Wonderful song, credit goes to Marie, but with due respect, i like Opeth's version more x]

  • Mikael and the boys really did this song justice. I think I'm going to have to grab the original version as well, though.

  • This is such a beautiful song, it always makes me feel calm... Still, I prefer Opeth's cover ;)

  • opeth

  • no one can play this better than Roger Frederico

  • @paquitomoralles Opeth can

  • pensavo fosse degli Opeth

  • To everyone, I have uploaded the Opeth cover of this song. if you wanna hear it, just check out my page!

  • to bid you farewell

  • somebody upload Opeth's version of this. Now.

  • Wonderful song... opeth´s cover is beautiful too ;)

  • i think opeths version is better, just like NIN's song Hurt, Johnny Cash did such a great cover of it that trent reznor said it wasnt his song anymore, and i think thats what we have here between Opeth and Marie Fredriksson

  • Hörde först Opeths version, och den föredrar jag : )

  • Opeth did a fantastic job covering this song, never knew it was a cover.

  • Opeth's version is better

  • @imjowsef absolutely

  • just beautiful...

  • Obviously opeth's cover is much better but the main merit belongs to the original writter. Amazing song anyway...

  • This is a really good song, but im sorry opeth's version is better.

  • @mtbskiier92 lol opeth's version is better but she did write the song

  • @danielova9000 and for that she's awesome

  • @mtbskiier92 hell yes

  • Opeths version är bättre!

  • will mikael akerfeldt please call me 919 244 7013 i want to buy you a beer and roll you a joint and i want you to take me on a journey and reveal to me the mysterious ways of the musical language and how i can move the world through music... ill buy your planeticket

  • Im starting to wonder if all these people commenting actually understand references and GERMANIC languages .....and scandanavia.........clearly not!!!! research before commenting!!!

  • she is Marie Fredriksson from roxette and this is an amazing song......

  • Both songs are great

I hate it when people assume since Opeth is a "metal band" that they would ruin this song... I can't stand it to be honest. There are plenty of "metal bands" that have more soul and feeling in their music than stupid modern pop or rock bands...

Opeth is definitely one of them, and I hope this cover maybe shows Marie Fredriksson fans that progressive music can be very versatile. :)

    have fun

  • lol Opeth's cover is PERFECT, Mikael Åkerfeldt has one of the most amazing voices, and besides, it suits perfectly this song.

I'm very grateful you're not one of those who thought Opeth would ruin the song

  • @MikeTheMisanthrope Opeth is a cold hearted progressive metal band, like the other cold hearted progressive metal bands, however their cover doesn't suck it doesn't have the feeling of the original - hey I was around 1992, I'm getting pissed off now, in the interviews it was clear what she went through to write this, all credit to her, none to Opeth. Inb4 I don't like metal or hate everything Opeth did, Deliverance is ok.

  • Wow, den här sång är så häpnadsväckande!

Akerfeldt har en skön röst för den alltför. Lång levande Opeth!

  • I'm learning swedish, so I only understood like 75% of what you posted... and I enjoyed it :)

  • ....as long as there s time for silence and we dare to go there where the ice is thinnest, as long as we see the light on the other side- through a broken window there s always gonna be a ray of sun shining on us

  • I think they did a good cover... this sing is really good song...

  • I heard both songs synchroniced!!! wow, sound scary, but Epic! Very good song..

  • I can understand why Opeth did a cover of this. Mystifying and incredible music.

  • Imagine Marie´s voice to Opeth´s music! or maybe a duett!?

  • Tänk er Maries röst till Opeth´s musik!!!

  • uuh! i can hear it at last!

  • Opeth's versionis pretty cool, but Marie's version is the original. Depends on your mood I guess, but love her voice, very haunting.

  • i like it , recon the opeth one is better thow, good song

  • ok.. it sounds way less epic with headphones... don't try it, it sounds quite diabolic hahahahaha but funny

  • I'm listening to this synchronized with Opeth's version, and it's EPIC SHIT (but weird)

  • I know, they match perfectly.. scary.

  • You're right. I have it synced note for note and I am having an orgasm right now.

  • I really like both versions, Opeht's and this one.

  • i love that song.. both versions!! but Opeth is something out of space.. everyone who love Opeth know exactly what i mean... but isnt it strange that we allll know that from Opeth bonus tracks? and not the original?? Im sure Opeth didnt chose in luck this song to cover..

  • I'm pretty sure in Sweden this song must be a little more popular than what we might think... and I'm pretty sure most of the guys who know this song in Sweden, don't know it because of Opeth.

Actually, i think Marie Fredriksson was part of ABBA, or something.. right?

I'm guessing Mikael knew that if he covered this, he would turn many fans into an extensive research to know who did the original song.. at least for us the guys who r not swedish :).. he might just want to let this song be famous

  • she's from Roxanne

  • i knew roxette long before opeth... but i never heard about this song before i knew opeth :D

  • hahahahah...

Anyway, no matter why you heard this song for the first time, we both agree it's a great one

  • yeah, maybe it is because i live in austria and nobody can speak swedish :D

yes, it is a good one :)

  • This reminds me a lot about swedish folk-music...

  • both version are amazing in a different way... really a lot of feelings in these words

  • Respects to Marie Frediksson for this wonderful song, but man Mikael's voice kicks ass!

  • @Jorvas25

Indeed, Mr. Åkerfeldt's voice is unmeasurable. Truly touching.

  • yeah i've looking around for this also. this is totally something Opeth would cover. Both versions are awesome!

  • is she fredricks wife?

  • lolwut?

  • his mom, probably lol.

  • omg marie..i didn't know YOU were the lady who owns this original version!!!

    ~ i grew up with Roxette's songs!! ^_^

  • I really like this song. Opeth's cover is amazing but I sing along better to this one since .. well.. she's female XD

  • I like Mikael's voice better!

  • Ofcourse ofcourse. This song really touches me.

  • Mikael's voice > Everyone else's

  • I've never heard the original. Thank you for uploading this!

  • Nope. Opeth covered it.

  • nice one noob xD

  • I've been searching for this version as well. VERY nice. Opeth chose an excellent song to cover.

  • nice!! It's the first time I hear the original song. Beautiful! ^^

  • acctually it is the original song of Marie fredriksson from "Den ständiga resan" album released in 1992. Opeth covered this song

  • Hey dude, the "indistinct" part in swedish is: "Ordet är".

Wich translates to "The word is", if you wanna correct the lyrics. =)

  • thanks man

  • @piglet177

Yea. While I might like Opeth's version more, credit is of course due to Marie for the original. And that too is probably just me being prejudicial towards one of my favourite bands...
