Use a program like Virtual Dub to compile them into an AVI file, you can choose codecs and stuff separately then.

@superotherguy1 Yep the more FPS and higher resolution the larger the file. I don't think there's a limit to the frame rate, but there isn't much of an advantage of going above 30 unless you are doing slow motion clips.

I solved it for those who cannot find their video file in their directory of gmod you need to move your gmod into another hard drive like me moving gmod from Disk C: to D: it may take awhile so follow the steps on the video then your all set to make a gmod movie :)

I am having a problem with this in TF2. I understand fully how to use the source recorder, and i have made test-clips in Portal, so i know it works. However, on TF2, when i type "Startmovie blahblah avi" the compression query box doesnt appear. Consequently, no AVI file is ever created, and the movie is not saved. It DOES appear when i use it in portal, but not TF2. Does anybody know why this is happening and what i can do to fix it?

The reason why the recorder doesnt work is because the latest update to gmod has broken it. The developers really need to test these patches before releasing them. Has anyone noticed that everything is brighter and the game is mroe prone to crashing? I did.

@ChawPowda You're looking at the .dem file, ofcourse it will save one. That is the format the source recorder saves in. It's the rendering that makes an AVI file, and you will find it in the FIRST gmod folder, not the one inside that...

Hey revorocks, I've got an unusual problem for you that might be hard to understand, so bear with me. Source recorders been working fine for years until now. After finishing recording a clip, I open the console and type host_framerate 30, startmovie ____ avi and then pick the Xvid codec as usual. After typing in playdemo blahblah, it all goes wrong. While the video renders, props/ragdolls/etc don't move. Everything in the render is immobile. The only thing that moves is me, the player. Help?

@UntouchedShadovv Hmm, i've never seen a problem like that before, but I'm guessing that for some reason it's not recording the demo properly. My only reccomendation would be to reinstall gmod, just delete all the files from the garrys mod folder, then start it on steam and it will aquire them again automatically, just make sure you back up your addons folder if you want to keep the majority of them.

After doing host_framerate 30...my fps has dropped from about 60 to 10 at all times except for when I open the console when it jumps to about 300! What do I type to reset this? Cause: I didn't disconnect before typing host_framerate 30.

Setting a framerate will mess up gameplay. You need to disconnect before trying to render a clip. It has to start a new server anyway in order to do so...

I got exactly the same processor, but an ati 4650HD with 1gb, I can let max 12 barells explode with no big change in fps but my fps is on 25-30, even with low graphics its still between 25-30, kindda weird xD
