I went to a convention in Detroit about 18 years ago. I took a tour of Berry Gordies house and was amazed at how many groups and superstars started in that very crowded basement garage. That evening, I went to a reception where the Velvelettes were entertaining. I had never heard of them but boy I heard them that night. They sang all the Motown hits recorded by all the other famous groups and they sounded as good and often better that the original groups. They should have been Motown's #1.
the velvelettes were basically a ''casualty'' at motown. even mary wilson and florence ballard of the supremes suffered and fell into this category at motown when genuine talent was overlooked because of berry gordys obsession with ''miss ross''
@BAREBACKER Yeah, you're right. Kinda funny how the best among the east coast groups suffered, too because Phil Spector was so engrossed with Ronnie Bennett.
".....JOHN!!! Motown would call me out late at night, tell me to go into a room and learn the song and within an hour I'm in the studio singing it. Then I'd go home and sleep and forget all about the precious night.
this is sooooo fresh , I could be walking into the Wheel again for the very first time , oh this is pure 65 / 66 , is it Caroline Gill on lead vocal - superb
I love the Velvelettes!!!!
