Aside from a few songs that simply blow (e.g., "Crazy in Love"), "Encore" may be a decent album if you look at it outside of the context of Eminem's career. But if you do look at it within the context of Eminem's career, it's terrible -- simply doesn't come close to his other work.

Very different from SSLP or any of his other work. SSEP was definitely great. Straight from the Lab was good. Content was better than Encore imo Re-Up was... well not my favorite thing to listen to but i do like a few songs. the added tracks on Refill are definitely better than most songs on the original album. None of them are really bad though. I like all of them.
As an artist I agree to those saying Relapse isn't as good as his earlier work. SSLP and MMLP were classic albums no doubt. The Eminem Show isn't my favorite but still better than Relapse. Encore was a more serious album than the rest which is why i think a lot of people don't like it, but since I can relate to a lot of the songs on it I do like it. Relapse in my opinion is definitely better than Encore. Relapse was more of an experimental/creative album. Infinite was a very good album.

SSLP he was joking around on the whole album. MMLP he was half and half. Ok Eminem Show may have been a lil more serious but Encore he was more mature with his lyrics when it came to the serious songs.

You can't buy a legit copy of Slim Shady EP, unless you want top spend upwards of $300-600 now, cause they are very rare, and no its not on iTunes. EP = Extend Play, which is longer than a single, but not as long as an LP. EP Came out as an intro to the LP, to create advertisement. And it still gets little praise man, I know people who say that their favorite artist is Eminem, but don't know that these album exists... CASE IN POINT! xD

I'm not sure why people say that Relapse is a weak record in comparison to his earlier ones, it's just different. Em's earlier records feel more autobiographical. In Relapse, Marshal appears only on Deja Vu and Beautiful. Elsewhere, it's all about Slim Shady. This time he's back with a darker, harder edge than ever before, murdering, raping, and in general terrorizing the world around him; the accent contributes to the madness. I hear the album as fascinating portrait of mental illness.
thx Daylight, I appreciate it. I'm new to hip hop and had not listened to very much of Em's earlier work. I think that enabled me to listen to Relapse with fresh ears. Some of my friends who are fans of Em's from way back are having a harder time with this record because the vibe of it is definitely different. The knee-jerk reactionis to conclude that because it is different it is somehow not as good. I think Relapse is misunderstood, especially by folks who think they "know" em.

There was actually a recent interview where Eminem said that he was working the drugs out of his system on all of the tracks on Relapse. He mean't that he was trying to get the feel of rapping sober by fucking around using the accent. He also said after the Forever track was released, his mind was more clear and is on his game now. He scrapped all the old material for Relapse 2 because he didn't feel those songs were good enough, hence why he delayed his album until 2010.
Beautiful was the only track from his drugged out period. But if you were really an Eminem fan, you would know that Relapse was nothing but a practice album on his abilities. The amount of drugs that he had in his system takes a long time for it to completely leave your blood stream to be able to think clearly again.

Aside from a few songs that simply blow (e.g., "Crazy in Love"), "Encore" may be a decent album if you look at it outside of the context of Eminem's career. But if you do look at it within the context of Eminem's career, it's terrible -- simply doesn't come close to his other work.

Very different from SSLP or any of his other work. SSEP was definitely great. Straight from the Lab was good. Content was better than Encore imo Re-Up was... well not my favorite thing to listen to but i do like a few songs. the added tracks on Refill are definitely better than most songs on the original album. None of them are really bad though. I like all of them.

As an artist I agree to those saying Relapse isn't as good as his earlier work. SSLP and MMLP were classic albums no doubt. The Eminem Show isn't my favorite but still better than Relapse. Encore was a more serious album than the rest which is why i think a lot of people don't like it, but since I can relate to a lot of the songs on it I do like it. Relapse in my opinion is definitely better than Encore. Relapse was more of an experimental/creative album. Infinite was a very good album.

SSLP he was joking around on the whole album. MMLP he was half and half. You can't buy a legit copy of Slim Shady EP, unless you want top spend upwards of $300-600 now, cause they are very rare, and no its not on iTunes. EP = Extend Play, which is longer than a single, but not as long as an LP. EP Came out as an intro to the LP, to create advertisement. And it still gets little praise man, I know people who say that their favorite artist is Eminem, but don't know that these album exists... CASE IN POINT! xD

I'm not sure why people say that Relapse is a weak record in comparison to his earlier ones, it's just different. Em's earlier records feel more autobiographical. In Relapse, Marshal appears only on Deja Vu and Beautiful. Elsewhere, it's all about Slim Shady. This time he's back with a darker, harder edge than ever before, murdering, raping, and in general terrorizing the world around him; the accent contributes to the madness. I hear the album as fascinating portrait of mental illness.

Some of my friends who are fans of Em's from way back are having a harder time with this record because the vibe of it is definitely different. The knee-jerk reactionis to conclude that because it is different it is somehow not as good. I think Relapse is misunderstood, especially by folks who think they "know" em.

There was actually a recent interview where Eminem said that he was working the drugs out of his system on all of the tracks on Relapse. He mean't that he was trying to get the feel of rapping sober by fucking around using the accent. He also said after the Forever track was released, his mind was more clear and is on his game now. He scrapped all the old material for Relapse 2 because he didn't feel those songs were good enough, hence why he delayed his album until 2010.
