Phantom Regiment has always been one of my favorite drum cores, but I think they deserved the rank they got this year. Honestly, I didn't enjoy the Cadet's show and I thought BD should've won, but that's just me I guess.
@ErinboBaron123 i am pretty sure this was the run through in Minnesota cause it can't be California since we hadn't put the new closer in yet in Cali. Plus Minnesota was the only place cold enough for us to be wearing shirts for the run through haha
The description says this was done in Roseville.. California?
I just realized there are people in pants and most of the corps are wearing shirts..which isn't normal. But then again, I live near Roseville and we were rehearsing in Galt, and it was ridiculously cold at nights here in July o_O
@Trumpetsongz88 Well to answer your questions. 1. It's a drum and bugle corp so it's all brass and 2. idk but no drum corp marches trombones haha i noticed that like a couple of days ago. I guess it's because it's really impractical and really dangerous since the corp members get really close to each other and like no one wants to receieve a slide to the face or back of the head
I know this is just a run through but it probably would have been easier if they all wore the same color of t-shirt or something. With the multiple colors mixing, it's hard to tell if something is out of place.
@bassbando false, i'm pretty sure they got it right cuz i was at finals and know about 3 snares on crown and they admit they werent better than phantom
The first DCI video I ever saw was in 8th grade, and it was a Phantom show. I'm pretty sure I was literally tearing up. The Phantom Regiment is what inspired me decide to try out for a drum corps. I will be a phan until the end. [:
I don't think any drumline has better technique than what these kids play with. And when they've had fast unison beats throughout the battery it's crystal clear. Nobody else comes close in that regard. Cool program this year, maybe a bit underrated by the green shirts. Just my opinion.
6:30 Mello's sends chills like super crazy. I love Phantom Regiment so much. There everything this year: Pit, horns, guard, battery, just everything is so perfect. I have phallen in love.
for a second i forgot i was watchin a rehearsal i was like "is having your jug on the sideline a penalty?" lmao. and yes Juliet did deserve better than what they got.. they definatly shouldve beat Crown (High School Marching band show) and the Beat my Heart Skipped was just... not clean and boring... Xtraordinary was rediculous and should have also beat Blue Devs and Angels and Demons was just awesome... Cadets deserve the win but im not sure who i think should've got 2nd.
My bf loves Phantom and is obsessed with this show! As am I! But I wanted to get a 2011 tour shirt for him for Christmas and the Regiment store is all out of them....does anyone know where I can buy one?
@zomgrandomtext Alright, just makin' sure, because what i'm not sure of, is if KevinButler35 was referring to "19 to 24" as the prime age for marching PR, or to something else entirely different.
When I saw this in June I knew I was watching something amazing! Great job to the color guard and the horn line! I can not wait to see what they do this summer! I will be waiting!
so yu guys know Shane Gwaltney? the percussion arranger and caption head? He's also our band's (the Choctawhatchee Stylemarchers) arranger and instructor
@LostAngeles99 i agree with your except cavs and cadets, cadets definately deserved it, should of been cadets, cavs, phantom, and in my world blue devils shows are awful, they are all skilled but im sorry, i ahte thier design with a passion
@LostAngeles99 They should have won every single year since the first time I was in the audience in 1978 in Denver and cried all the way home. They should have won their first of what should now be the 35 time Champion. "Phantom Regiment Should've won this year" should be their truthful advertising slogan. Your claim is like some Black Humor understatement of all time.
@LostAngeles99 I disagree. I think that XtraordinarY and Juliet were about the same. XtraordinarY was more percussion intensive, while Juliet was much more focused on the horns. I could be wrong. But I agree with everything else you said.
When I did corps this summer, I got to see all their Cali shows all the way through Denver, and each time, I cried my heart out at around 6:00 in. Thank you.
I can't find the words to describe how beautiful this opener is. 0:58 just about had me in tears. This corps' music is never anything short of breathtaking. I will never forget the time I spent with this corps. SUTA.
I am one of those that got to see this any time I wanted... Denton, Austin, Albuquerque, any of the Cali shows... you name it, where it was I was there.
The fact of the matter is: no matter where it was, it still brought tears to my eyes to see this live. Many other people felt the same, whether they were blessed like me or if they saw only one show. I'll never forget driving the 15,000 miles I did over this past summer because it helped bring this beautiful show to the Phans everywhere! SUTA
@bmrdrummer97 are you kidding me? who do you think you are a judge? phantom is way better than cavis and crown and scv. you want more difficulty and sound....what a moron...the band is so damn loud it would take ten more of each drum just to get it close. and i would love to see you play that music perfect like every percussionist there did. be real man. go phantom
@promarkqaz123 look obviously imnot criticizing because im not a judge im just saying what would have made me like the show i would have loiked tomhave had the drumline be more prominent because they aare a great and as far as the difficulty comment with the promenence you want people to say wow and thats what would make that happen i love phantom did you not get the amzing part
The 08 show of Phantom Regiment, by far is the most well rounded complete story-telling performance of any DCI Core that I have ever seen..........This cannot be disputed.
I remember being in marching band in high school and our director putting on DCI finals, and watching Phantom Regiment and my director saying, see that, do that. He would also say, they are the best, if you want to be the best, show me that. I have loved Phantom regiment and DCI ever since.
@javy345z usually, when the temperature is high enough, most bands will wear t-shirts and shorts. and DCI is usually during the summer, so marching without uniform actually happens a lot.
Nearly every corps tries this and VERY FEW pull it off cleanly and judges are always looking for that to be dirty. It looks awesome with the white uniforms but man does it show errors.
Blue Devils/SCV = Very good (extremely good players playing super hard, complicated, but impressing pieces)
Phantom Regiment = Genuine Music played at it's best. Not just some complicated piece thats catchy and makes you go "WOAH THATS COOL" Music that is played with musicianship and grace.
@metalfool4295 Unless its super hot you might get away with it. I'm in Texas, so when it was over 100 degrees throughout the rehearsal the director didn't care if our shirts were off.
unless you've actually done it....you will never know how difficult it is to find and run, march or dance to your spot, keep your spacing, breathe, play and sound good...all at the same time non-stop for more than 10 minutes. Drum Corps is its own form of musical art. Props to the Regiment and its members.
@TheJLF38 i do, i started marching this year. it is difficult, i hate how everybody else (football players, cheerleaders, etc.) dont realize its harder to march than it is to play football
@tefrumpzax I tried to explain to one of my friends how demanding it is to be a brass player in DCI and as an example we went to the gym and played racquetball and I told him to only breath in every 5 seconds. It didn't last long.
@tefrumpzax I agree. While football is a physically demanding sport, it's only done in less than 10 second plays every time. A regular marching show is anywhere from 7 minutes to 12 minutes long, and requires every bit of concentration, coordination, and physicality as the individual performer can put out.
@TheJLF38 I completely agree I'm in High School Marching Band and I will be trying out for Drum Corps this November, and let me tell ya, that Marching band is anything but easy!
@TheJLF38 are tried to catch saber while running across the field all the while spinning around in all different kinds of directions trying to remember where you tossed it in the first place lol
@TheJLF38 exactly. high school marching band is hard enough. i cant imagine what drum corps is like. i hope to someday march for the Cavaliers or the Bluecoats. i hate it when people look down on us and say 'marching band isnt a sport'
@TheJLF38 absolutely i hate it when people try to downplay the difficulty of a Marching Band or Drum Corps it makes no sense to me when they have NO idea what they are talking about
12bryanm@ I thought the same thing :D

@tefrumpzax I tried to explain to one of my friends how demanding it is to be a brass player in DCI and as an example we went to the gym and played racquetball and I told him to only breath in every 5 seconds. It didn't last long.

@RJK0708 hehe, well done

@tefrumpzax I agree. While football is a physically demanding sport, it's only done in less than 10 second plays every time. A regular marching show is anywhere from 7 minutes to 12 minutes long, and requires every bit of concentration, coordination, and physicality as the individual performer can put out.

@TheJLF38 exactly. high school marching band is hard enough. i cant imagine what drum corps is like. i hope to someday march for the Cavaliers or the Bluecoats. i hate it when people look down on us and say 'marching band isnt a sport'
ulquiorra621 4 months ago
@TheJLF38 absolutely i hate it when people try to downplay the difficulty of a Marching Band or Drum Corps it makes no sense to me when they have NO idea what they are talking about
