English electric 1959 designed plane LOOKS DOWN on u2 spy plane and gave Americans a shock they did not believe another plane especially of 1959 design could fly above their spy plane and then the Brits had tsr2 but america shut it down lend lease they call it
The single-seat F15A on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, nicknamed "Streak Eagle," broke eight time-to-climb world records between Jan. 16 and Feb. 1, 1975. In setting the last of the eight records, it reached an altitude of 98,425 feet just 3 minutes, 27.8 seconds from brake release at takeoff and "coasted" to nearly 103,000 feet before descending.
The F-15 has never been defeated in air to air combat. 104-0
The MiG-25 was capable of high performance, including a maximum speed of Mach 3.2 and a ceiling of 90,000 ft (27,000 m), although on Aug. 31, 1977, an E-266M, a specially modified Foxbat, flown by MiG OKB Chief Test Pilot Alexander Fedotov, set the recognized absolute altitude record for a jet aircraft under its own power, reaching 123,523.58 ft (37,650 m) at Podmoskovnoye, USSR in a brief zoom climb. The record is the only recognized absolute record not held by a pilot from the United States
Do you have to wear any special gear? Is it scary going that high? I go on commercial aircraft a lot but theres no comparison, and my dad was just talking about it (he used to be in the airforce) even though he has never done that.
How high do you have to be to see the Earth's curvature and space?
The runway and tarmac had weeds growing through the cement and the ground crew chief stood smoking a cigarette, leaning on the plane while it was fueled, shirt unbuttoned down to his belt, beer belly hanging out. Nothing OSHA about any of.
Absolutely one of the best experiences of my life.
Well, according to the FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale), the official record is 37 650 m (123 524 ft) set in 1977 by a Mikoyan/Gurevitch E-266M, which is a modified/modernized MiG-25 used to test new engines.
desu38 is right, no weightlessness. But there was a slight sensation of less weight as we arched over the top and started back down. Nothing to write home about but interesting nonetheless.
Well, "lucky" in the sense that I could afford to do this. But I know what you mean and yes, I was fortunate to have been able to do this. I wish anyone who would like to could be able to do so.
May look like junk, but its probably more capable than any of the crap you brits were able to built. Your last decent high-speed plane was the TSR-2 and you killed it to suck up on some american cock(read, F-111)
Don't foget who gave the Americans a decent turbojet to tinker with and the origins of the Allison J33 turbojet. Were the founding fathers not all British by descent? Isn't the constitution written in English?Never the less, in my opinion, The USA is the greatest country in the world.
May the force be with you, Luke

A Russian "G" flight suit, helmet and jacket but other than than that, nothing special.
I don't know the minimum height necessary to see the earth's curve but expect it is around 70,000, at least that's when I began to notice it.
Some day you may do much more than this. I too never would have expected to do something like this but it happened.
Wmatthies 2 years ago
@Wmatthies You can start to see it around 40,000. Though, obviously, the higher you go, the more pronounced it becomes.

I was in the cockpit for this flight but could be wrong. I'm just reporting what I was told. What makes you say it was 95K feet?

read up on the russian who travelled 95 K feet in his mig-25.
