She was such a good soul ...I wish she was my aunt or mother I just feel like hugging her! What a genuinely good ,nice and sweet person Julia Child was
@Soonablu; why would that be important, obviously Streep has been professional enough. In my opinion Meryl Streep did a fabulous job, the movie makes a lot of people happy and I'm pretty sure there was an increase in sales of the books about Julia Child as well as Child's cookbook.
Love being able to watch and listen to Julia Child. The only reason I have come to be interested is because of Julie and Julia book/movie. Thank goodness for that! The interviewer tho in my opinion sounds like a young lawyer doing one of his first depositions. "Can you state your full name please" and it goes on in that style. Funny.
Nostalgia. I remember watching this with my grandma on PBS. I miss my granny, and it is things like this that bring me back to that happy place with great memories. :)
@Bronson1886 And HOW ! ! ! A gracious lady with an amazing sense of humor able to always laugh through her own folly. My channel is mostly about music, 550 playlists of it, but I started a list for Heroes awhile back & realized today she needed to be on it. An inspiration to us all, she didn't just conquer an all-male domain, she conquered the domain dominated by snotty French MEN ! ! !
This woman was classy and such a tremendous inspiration to her craft. She left an amazing legacey behind and had a lovley personality. She seemed to be one of those people you would always want around you. She was witty and had a way of saying things that was original and comical, i'm so sure that she brought alot of joy wherever she went. She was so with it for a lady of her age she makes me want to grow old gracefully. I hope I live to be in my 90s like she did.
I think that the people that get to be that old are either pretty calm and happy or have the best genes ever... All I can hope for is to get to live to 70 :) stupid type 1 diabetes :( Julia childs was and still is awesome, I remember when I used to see her shows on PBS and falling asleep to that wonderful voice :)
@ Kashmir2000is Hmm.... even though she ate all that butter, she still lived to be 91.. That just let's you know that its not just the butter.....Just saying.
Watched the movie for the first time today. Loved it! I cannot get over how wonderfully gracious and well liked she truly was. I really enjoyed the interview and listening to her sweet voice. She was so humble and so easy to listen to.
she look pretty bcuz she always enjoy good food. &she dont care wether its not healthy bcuz all the butter&stuffs. the most important think, u do what u like... :)
@totally0511 No, you do not do what you want. That attitude is why we are in the trouble we are in, and more still coming if we don't wake up.
Julia used all that butter, etc. because we didn't have the information that we do today. It would go hand in hand with those cigarette commercials during the same time period.
Julie and Julia gave attention back to this culinarily expressive woman. I believe she enjoyed her life and I'm glad for the glimpse into that time in our history.
I used to watch Julia with my Grandmother when I was a child in the early 70's. My wife and I watched the movie the first time tonight and loved it. My Grandmother was also a great cook(Italian, but cooked EVERYTHING!)). I'd help her make meals, and those memories cooking with her in the summers and on the weekends during school years are some of the finest times in my life. She passed in '92 and is greatly missed, just as Julia is missed by her family and friends. RIP Julia and G-Ma Louise
What a lovely lady with a brilliant mind!! I have just seen the movie Julie & Julia and thought Meryl Streep played a fantastic role. I saw No Streep in the movie just a wonderful perfomance of Julia Child from a wonderful actress. Well done Meryl!!!!
I just love Julia, not only she showed that it is possible for normal everyday women are able to cook french food, But her marrige to Paul just gives us hope for a timeless love that they had.
fascinating lady! so adorable you just want to hug her. the interviewer sounds too close to the microphone and at times he sounds like a doctor asking for vitals. julia is just a sweetheart! how lucky she makes you feel to watch her. thanks for posting!
This interview is so well done!! (thanks to the excellent interviewer, Michael Rosen (sp.?). ) He allowed Julia to elaborate, and therefore we have this valuable first hand acount of her fascinating life. He deserves an award for this!!! It's PRICELSS!! That being said she is an utterly fascinating, fun loving, interesting, unpretenscious, adoring and amazing woman..., with a fantastic memory. I loved her book, "My Life in France"..so so enjoyable!!! love her.!!!
She had a full and colorful Life` you can actually feel her kind and loving spirit. She made her mark especially in the art of French Cooking. Long live Julia,s spirit.
she was explaining how they told her not to tell anyone about that "secret" voyage and she just spread it acrost youtube. lol. but i guess no one cares, due to the fact it was so long ago.
From what I see in this interview, Julia was a very real, down to earth persoin. If she came from a "privileged" background, she sure doesn't seem uppity. The United states in her day when she was a young person was like a different world from today.
I love Julia, but I'm a little disappointed to see that she came from such a privileged background. "There were always servants, cooks and maids." In the depression "We were sent to private school and there were always servants."
I admire what she's done, but it has to be admitted that many, many people with the kind of leisure lifestyle she's had could have a equally successfully and happily indulged in their passion, and made a success of it.
Why is it a crime to come from a privileged family? She still did her part and went to school and worked and did a heck of a lot for the WWII efforts.
I commend her more, because she didn't have to do anything and did move forward with a lot of CLASS!!!
She didn't come from a privileged background. It was common for middle-class people to have a maid or a cook. Look at the sitcomms from the 50's -- there was always a maid.
She had a leisure lifestyle because she was a woman and unmarried women didn't work in those days.
I saw the movie this evening, and it is one of the best films I have seen in a long time. Meryl Streep does an incredible job and is simply miraculous as Julia... the perfect choice in my opinion!
She was a facinating lady! Some people think she was from New England because of her accent but she has a classic upper-class Pasadena accent which is still around today.
Meryl Streep was an unfortunate choice for Julia Child. Streep doesn't act, she impersonates her. Streep does that "I'm so cleverly droll" thing, where she finds herself so entertaining. I've read and watched a lot of Julia Child, and I think the performance is hollow and all Meryl. There's a basic modesty to the Child's flamboyance that is lightyears beyond Streep. The film trailer made my skin crawl....
I must agree, as a professional actor and teacher, you have hit the nail on the head. The "loopy" qualities were laid on just about 5 scenes too frequently. Though there is a lot of Streep in it, that might have been OK if she had sunk down into the role with serious intent, but one felt she was enjoying playing AT it with Tucci to much to do so., having a good time rather than focusing on deepth in some key scenes. I see enthusiasm for an enjoyable film made your comment unpopular.
OMG!! Meryl steep REALLY nailed the part.. ive seen videos of the real Julia Child before..and I saw the movie a couple of days ago, and I thought Meryl did an astonishing job as always.. but right now that im listening to her again... Meryl was truly amazing... and this woman was an amazing cook. I have difficulty making myself a sandwich xD
@cookie3008 omg you are sooo right meryl streep was absolutely perfect for the part just from watching julie and julia i fell in love with julia child and tried to make beouf bourbignon ..... it was a disaster haha but ill try again

Meryl Streep is Amazing in portraying Julia. She has the voice and characteristics in detail. Meryl even mimicks the straightening of the back when Julia would sit up as if she suddenly remembered to keep good posture. The movie is worth seeing.
