@DannyJ1999 not sure what you mean by science but that Sikorsky is the only helicopter designed to have an amphibious bottom (like a seaplane) but as you can see it's not exactly watertight without them duct-taping (yellow blocks) a lot of the aircraft. Sadly most have been retired.

This is called "waterbirding". It is a technique created, and perfected by Canadians. During search and rescue operations where the helicopter lands in the water, and moves towards the incident to extract people. Prince William is a Search and Rescue helicopter pilot. Now he will take what he learned hear, back to England.

As for the comments on Canada's weather. This is on the east coast, where the weather always sucks. When they were in Ottawa, it was near 30C!!

It IS something Canadians created and it IS something he'll take back with him. He was quoted as saying that his mates would be so jealous of his opportunity, although a number of UK S & R pilots have visited Canada to also obtain their certificate. Before this trip to PEI he wasn't able to do this.
