I heard that if a person in the U.S. military is injured , maimed, or killed in a botched operation in a VA hospital, they and/or their families are not allowed to sue for malpractice.
Even if it had serious consequenses (like amputating the wrong leg), and could be proven..Even if they had proof that the doctor did it DELIBERATLY.
Milatary officials say ths is "fair " because the military pays for it.
I don't think that the family of a soldier who died from gross neglegance would agree.
Lets be fair Insurance companies feel fine about taking government subsidies to help their companies yet, the minute we try to help the average American they call it socialism. Lets go by there logic Screw the poor help the rich> RA RA RA
If the public option is so terrible, how come Insurance companies are so against it. I'll tell you why because, it will force insurance companies to compete with a fair just system. Insurance companies feel how dare we're forced to compete in a fair free market system like all other businesses. If they are so worried maybe they should start offering a high quality competitive product. Maybe instead of complaining about government they should look in the mirror.
Obama is clearly defending the profits and interests of the financial aristocracy and the insurance companies, and he's shifting the burden of the economic collapse on the backs of the working class, cutting basic social services, lowering wages, and attacking basic democratic rights, etc. Our living standards are being pushed back to that of the Great Depression, wiping out the middle class, while the financial elite get trillions. Sorry but you just don't get it. There is a lot more money to be made from The Public Option or Universal Healthcare. The Public Option or Universal Health creates a monopoly. It's proven that prices come down when there is competition. Where there is no competition, prices are always higher.
That's exactly what the private companies are saying. That they cannot compete with the private companies. LOL
Why can they not compete? Offer the same services at competitive prices. That's competition. They don't want it. They ALREADY HAVE A MONOPOLY. Why give it up? LOL
Btw. America spends more money on health care then Canada and UK and still your population dies sooner. Gets sick more often and you have millions uninsured and your standard of living is lower then UK and Canada. Some system
A government competing with the private sector is not competition. Why not open up the state borders and let 1,500 insurance companies compete with eachother instead of just one government entity. Witch choice do you think would offer more competition?
As for the other insurance companies competing. Do they not do this already and look at the results? All of them offer the same services and the same prices and restrictions.
Its not working so much so they all said in 1993 that they would change,,,lol
You are misguided on this. I can only purchase insurance in one state. This limits competition and creates monopolies within the state. When few compete they can charge what ever the hell they want and cover as little as they want. If an insurance company in Iowa has to compete with another in Maine along with every other state and not just others in Iowa; competition is increased and prices drop and quality increases. Its simple economics using business principles. many libs cannot see this
Wether his overspending actions contradicts this, he on more then many occasions championed capitalism and free markets like ALL Republicans.
"Bush urges free market, capitalism at economic meeting"
"Even while advocating some regulatory reform and new rules on accounting and fraud, President George W. Bush yesterday said world leaders should rely on capitalism and free markets to see them through the financial turmoil that grips the global economy."
...However, Capitalism is not Capitalism anymore...
...it turns out to be Socialism for the rich...while everyone who works hard receives nothing for their hard-work...
WE NEED a Mixture that focuses more on Social needs, so EVERYONE can have some security, and not worry about paying the cable bill, or feeding the kids...something the wealthy would not even be able to fathom.
No system is perfect...but this SUPER-Capitalism is the worst of them all...
Tell that to the government run post office which is being OUT COMPETED by UPS and FED-Ex. Seriously, this notion that private companies can't compete with the government is more than absurd and our own postal system proves it false.
What you don't understand is if the Post Office had to break even or make a profit, they would be out of business. This year alone they will be in the red some $7 billion. The taxpayers will have to foot the bill for their poor business practice. Over the last 100 years they have operated more in the red then breaking even or with a surplus. Medicare/medicaid waste $1 to every $3 it spends. Billions every year that taxpayers foot the bill for.
that's because government programs aren't designed to make a profit, thereby saving the taxpayer the wasted overhead that private companies incur. comparatively the government saves billions this way. so what you call a loss, is actually only a portion of the expense it takes a private company to run the same program.
that's why greedy insurance companies are afraid of what you call inefficiency. they will have to trim the fat big time to compete. and you will pay less for health care.
You can't actually believe that. This is the absolute dumbest comment I've ever seen reguarding healthcare costs. Please tell me you're joking. Please tell me you're not that stupid.
Its never that simple, the P.O has to serve every community no matter how poor and unprofitable to them, no matter how far out they are they have to have a near by collection point.
Guess what, a private military would easily undercut the current one, but you can forget soldiers being allowed to risk millions in hardware to rescue there buddies or the use of expensive smart bombs that have 50/50 chance of even saving one more civilian life etc... certain thinks need a public option.
Are you aware of what the Public Option is? It's an OPTIONAL government offered Health Insurance plan. You pay a premium for it just like you would with private insurance. This would force private insurance to compete with public insurance and drastically lower costs. It's not a monopoly in any way, shape, or form. You seem to be in favor of competition yet oppose the public option, which would create said competition.
First the premiums for the public option haven't been established. However the cbo said at least 10% below private. so a $900 plan will cost $810. None of the plans deal with the reason for rising cost or reduce cost or reimbursment rates. Which the Gov. already sets the prices for 1/2 the healthcare sector directly and the other 1/2 indirectly.
The Gov. already controls all he resources and how they are used through mandates and regulations. They have done a lousy job of controling cost.
Why do you think that a Rockefeller is pushing so hard for The Public Option?
Do you think he feels so bad for his families wealth that he want's let his families investments in oil, banking and insurance to evaporate? Or do you think he figures he can make more money through the government?
how old are you? this next 100 years is going to be utterly insane, in my life time I expect to see cybernetic technology, nanotechnology, virtual reality, the elimination of the monetary system, technological singularity and post scarcity, as well as post human/trans humans. Wait 10-20 years for the old people to die off, and just wait and see what happens. Seriously
You're one of the few people that sees the real issue. Everyone supporting a public option are complaining against big insurance companies not wanting government takovers to keep profits. They blame the capitalists. However, the indisputed capitalist families lead spokesman, Senator Jay Rockefeller, is the one most pushing for a public option. Why would the supposed biggest capitalist be the lead pusher for socialist programs? Doesn't anyone else find this strange?
reverse psychology? hahaha I dunno, though its a pretty shoddy argument your using, you don't know his motivations, maybe he's really for it, maybe he's not, your not him, why is he the "undisputed capitalist families lead spokesman"? I dispute that..prove it, your opinion is not fact unless you back it up with facts and evidence and reason and logic. Your just stating shit.
You can dispute whatever you want. Who really cares. There is no doubt the The Rockefeller Family are the undisputed ecomonic kings. In a short 130 years, they have attained more wealth then The Rothschilds have in 500.
If Rockefeller was so concerned with poor people have health insurance, his family could divert the tax credits and subsidies that his families companies get from The Federal Government and take a modest percent of his families fortune and pay for everyones annual healthcare premiums. The real issue for this socialist program is that Rockefeller doesn't want to share HIS wealth. He want's to share YOUR wealth.
if the comments are offensive or do not add anything to the discussion (i.e. spam) they should be deleted. They do not however delete dissenting opinions that are structured in a intelligent and professional way.
Well that's clearly untrue as my comment didn't fit into either category!
I simply stated that the reaction to this Bill as done nothing but prove that it doesn't mater what letter they put in front of their names, the Resheeplicans and Dems are all owned by Big Business(Obama included!) That's all I said and it was removed, Now explain how that's not a Faux news tactic?
Why are people against the public option? You pay an insane amount to have insurance if you are lucky enough to afford it, paying more taxes would still cost you less money than you pay for insurance now.
I mean really, just wait when you get sick and you really see how all those thousands of dollars you've spent get squandered if there is no reform, say you get ostio-arthritis where you cant work because you do manual labor with no way to pay for the insurance you are fucked.
you might find that idiots are the loudest, and anyone with half a brain gets shouted down, when they show the facts, of course that isn't helped by lobbies or crooked republicans/dems
Its mostly Republicans because they are paid millions in lobbyist money from Private HMO's to kill any reform. Then they lie to lemming conservative supporters in believing their lies and hyperbole. The funny and scary part is they have convinced regular folk that its bad...a system THEY would benefit most from.
Military spending is clearly listed in The Constitution. Although I think we spend way too much on it. Items like healthcare, schools, police and infrastructure are not. They are state and local issues that can't be addressed because The Federal Gvoernment takes such a big piece of our salaries that the states just simply can't tax enough to do it's own job. If we were to cut The Federal Gvoernment and allow the States do tax enough, our country would be in much better shape.
This i agree on. Your country spends so much on the military and domestic spending is second fiddle. Health care and schools should be items that are in your constitution to be funded or the very least made a priority.
It is clearly shown that those areas are crumbling.
No and here's why. Government insurance does not have to advertise, meaning they don't need that extra money to spend on that. Also everyone could get insurance, and that would mean more people paying in, meaning less money per person would needn't to be paid.
The Public Option is Not DEAD. 3 out of 4 bills being considered include the public option. Now is not the time to retreat now is the time to turn up the heat and apply pressure. Call and Demand thhey use the RECONCILIATION OPTION! If you need the numbers you can find them on my profile. You will also find several other resources in the comment section that will help you become more active. Together we CAN do this!
You can't have a mandate without a public option. Fine if you want to do some of the other things in the bill like doing away with recision and turning people down because of preexisting conditions, but having a mandate without a public option does nothing for lowering costs will crush the middle class even more. It makes no sense at all.
we are slowly moving awa y from fascism to a more populous society. i am so glad. In your face right wing nuts. we won't get our country back over night but we will get it back from your clutches gradually.
When people say that the American health system is the best in the world, they conveniently ignore the fact that due to costs it simply isn't available to every US citizen.
How can it be the "best" system when not everyone can afford it? It seems a pretty shitty system to me...
However this all works out, we are going to end up with a bill that puts more of our money into a for profit corporate healthcare system. Almost as much as the Republicans, the Democrats are bought and paid for with corporate money. We the people that pay them, that elect them, we mean nothing to them. They'll shit in our cereal and we will repay them by re-electing them again. Don't fool yourself by thinking you are part of the equation when it comes to public policy. You're not.
av...i understand ...gov. regulations homeland security and endless paper work kills small business.....but you can survive if you are cut throat to your employees and cut corners ...jk i get it
most of us aren't selfish just uninvolved ...no more though the 25% that are vocal are running the 80% who are not. I was not fan of Micheal Moore until now
good god ...why should we pay for community fire ...are you that dead in the head ...maybe your school didnt have enough money for history lessens you wank
The public option WILL NEVER EVER HAPPEN! Sarah Palin with her GOD POWER and her No. 1 bestselling book with ensure that the Public Option DOES NOT EXIST! Palin WILL become America's NEXT and GREATEST POTUS of ALL TIMES and will ensure that healthcare remains COMPLETELY PRIVATIZED and government free! If any lowly politician dares reform the system, Palin will UNLEASH the WRATH OF GOD HERSELF onto the poor minion and EXPOSE his PUSSY and destroy his cred and career!
i think people are framing the battle / debate in the wrong way....it's not if the public option is dead or who is fighting for it....the real question is....how strong or how hard are the conservative / corporatist democrats willing to fight against it....and to keep it out....if they aren't willing to commit political suicide to prevent a public option from being in the bill...then we will get one...they are the only thing standing in the way...i think they will back down in the end....PO FTW
This public option to the public is sooo obvious. The majority of us want it! I'm military, so I'm already covered, but it would be fantastic if you civies could get the type of health care I was getting! The debate shoulda been over long ago!
so both of these filthy democrats got their crappy ideas shot down but they say it was a good day at work. democrats sure love to get pissed on don't they?
avl39563 man you might as well face it no matter what your right wing spewing is we are going to have health care reform and from the looks of it we are more than likely going to have a public option so go on back and shovel some dead bodies at the concentration camp and accept the fact
Senators Baucus, Lincoln, and Conrad voted against the Shumer amendment, however another public option amendment recently passed the committee, though it is really weak. Zero republican votes of course, but I guess it's a start.
It's a blend of public and private, basic government care and personal insurance or out of pocket expense for other things.
Not that you'll hear that from any American politician, espescially the Republicans who couldn't say one true thing about Canadian health care if you put a gun to their heads.
The UK has what you would call a public option, the national health service. You also have the option of using a private practice as well if you prefer. Canada is along the same lines I believe.
just ask any democrat where's the 1st and best place to go to reach a mass audience to get your message out and he'll say "why, the Ed Show of course".
You want to force me by law to take money out of my pocket and hand it to a pirate private corporation? That is the essence of taxation without representation.
How about this: I pledge that I will ONLY buy mandated insurance coverage if it is offered by the government. Let 'em fine me, see ya in court. Anybody else like to take the pledge?
I absolutely agree with you. Mandated coverage is a good idea ONLY if there is goverment offered insurance to compete with Private Insurance and lower premiums to a reasonable rate.
The young turks are just a spin off of the Onion, all their news storys are fake. I can't believe anyone takes this liberal crap seriously. All they are doing is poking fun at libs'. It is really quite amusing to find so many people on these TYT threads actually debating in favor for this phoney news.
avl39563, yeah that was a poll taken on Sara Palin's facebook page. It was right next to the question about death panels, I remember it clearly. Why are you avoiding me my friend, after all the screaming and gun play that we did at the town hall meeting, I'm shocked at how you are ignoring me. I'll never forget how hot you looked in that cowboy hat with that AR-15 over your shoulder, kiss kiss you hot neo conservative chicken hawk you. Viva la Bush baby!
I was going to say the same thing to you but i decided to take a different route. You seem to be completely oblivious to the health insurance industries practices. Here's one for you and it's presented in a Republican style catch phrase so you can easily understand it. "Foreign Aid" Yep, we subsidize the worlds drug prices by paying the difference in the form of higher costs when they all negotiate with big pharma for price breaks. Now tell why how you support foreign aid to socialist countries?
avl39563, Why don't you crawl back in whatever hole they dragged you out of. Or check back in with your but-lovin daddy. Just as long as you go away and leave this place to the adults.
Damn right avl39563, corporations have the right to kill for profit. If a person can't work because their sick, kill the mother fucker. America should a be a dog eat dog system where the weak are vanquished and the strong rule the day. Wall Street won and the working class trash loose, that's how the game is played. Profit first regardless of the price is the gospel of the land. For those who can't keep up with corporate America, eat shit and die and may your children starve to death!!!
Without the working class there would BE no Wall Street. We're the pillar that keeps your self-righteous ass from tumbling into the wastes. The real solution is not dog eat dog, but population control. The more people we have the harder it is to sustain our way of life. The more people, the more fighting and pollution, consumption and debt. Families shouldn't be having more than 1-2 children let alone 10. Fuck your class system, we're all in this together.
denivish, cool off because this is satire. Don't you get tired of arguing facts with conservatives, I know I do? So when I've had enough of the bullshit, I just feed it back to them without the politically correct language. Nothing gets their rural country crusty assholes in a bind quicker.
avl39563, I have to reply to you: the ideals which you are referring to are COMMUNIST ideals. Socialism is a different animal. Our ALLIES Canada and Britain have universal healthcare. And you just don't get it: a public option would be just that: AN OPTION. You can keep getting the same shitty healthcare you have now, or you can get government-sponsored healthcare.
Hey avl39563 can you hang with this? Tax cuts for the rich and tax increases for the poor and middle class. Let's spend another trillion on the drug war shall we? Government subsidies for churches who will work hard fighting for the GOP. I say we Invade Iran and have a draft. Let's take 3 on at once and challenge Russia to another cold war battle. And finally we should hunt down all those who disagree and pack them into FEMA camps. Palin for president in 2012. Blood for oil!
what makes you think you work harder than anyone else? there is nothing special about you or your lame desire. you are just another pathetic wage slave like everyone else in this country so please get of your high horse. people like you make me sick.
I like socialism. I like public roads, a national military, the fire department (even the police department), public bridges, Medicare, NASA, unionized $38/hour jobs with pensions and retirement plans, child labor laws, food quality regulations, collective bargaining, worker control of the workplace, etc.

pooyan6969 2 years ago
Btw. Nothing wrong with capitalism and free markets. Its needed. It needs to have some regulations and over sight..
pooyan6969 2 years ago
true...
...However, Capitalism is not Capitalism anymore...
...it turns out to be Socialism for the rich...while everyone who works hard receives nothing for their hard-work...
WE NEED a Mixture that focuses more on Social needs, so EVERYONE can have some security, and not worry about paying the cable bill, or feeding the kids...something the wealthy would not even be able to fathom.
No system is perfect...but this SUPER-Capitalism is the worst of them all...
treid100182 2 years ago 2
I just read into this. Not too many politicians want this either. LOL
And especially the private companies FOR THE OBVIOUS REASONS LOL

NoTalentSucks 2 years ago
Did I throw you? Couldn't understand the meaning?
mickeysears 2 years ago
Tell that to the government run post office which is being OUT COMPETED by UPS and FED-Ex. Seriously, this notion that private companies can't compete with the government is more than absurd and our own postal system proves it false.
Raizhen010 2 years ago
What you don't understand is if the Post Office had to break even or make a profit, they would be out of business. This year alone they will be in the red some $7 billion. The taxpayers will have to foot the bill for their poor business practice. Over the last 100 years they have operated more in the red then breaking even or with a surplus. Medicare/medicaid waste $1 to every $3 it spends. Billions every year that taxpayers foot the bill for.
quizerry 2 years ago
Rep Weiner, said Medicare archives a 97% reimbursment rate.
CmdrTobs 2 years ago
that's because government programs aren't designed to make a profit, thereby saving the taxpayer the wasted overhead that private companies incur. comparatively the government saves billions this way. so what you call a loss, is actually only a portion of the expense it takes a private company to run the same program.
that's why greedy insurance companies are afraid of what you call inefficiency. they will have to trim the fat big time to compete. and you will pay less for health care.
tomitstube 2 years ago
You can't actually believe that. This is the absolute dumbest comment I've ever seen reguarding healthcare costs. Please tell me you're joking. Please tell me you're not that stupid.
mickeysears 2 years ago
don't take my word for it, the congressional budget office (non partisan) projects billions in savings and a reduction is the deficit.
you're clueless aren't you? so tell me genius, why is the insurance lobby spending millions a day to defeat a pubic option?
because the gov't plan is that bad?
i'm waiting...
tomitstube 2 years ago
Its never that simple, the P.O has to serve every community no matter how poor and unprofitable to them, no matter how far out they are they have to have a near by collection point.
Guess what, a private military would easily undercut the current one, but you can forget soldiers being allowed to risk millions in hardware to rescue there buddies or the use of expensive smart bombs that have 50/50 chance of even saving one more civilian life etc... certain thinks need a public option.
CmdrTobs 2 years ago
Are you aware of what the Public Option is? It's an OPTIONAL government offered Health Insurance plan. You pay a premium for it just like you would with private insurance. This would force private insurance to compete with public insurance and drastically lower costs. It's not a monopoly in any way, shape, or form. You seem to be in favor of competition yet oppose the public option, which would create said competition.
Raizhen010 2 years ago 4
First the premiums for the public option haven't been established. However the cbo said at least 10% below private. so a $900 plan will cost $810. None of the plans deal with the reason for rising cost or reduce cost or reimbursment rates. Which the Gov. already sets the prices for 1/2 the healthcare sector directly and the other 1/2 indirectly.
The Gov. already controls all he resources and how they are used through mandates and regulations. They have done a lousy job of controling cost.
quizerry 2 years ago
Why do you think that a Rockefeller is pushing so hard for The Public Option?
Do you think he feels so bad for his families wealth that he want's let his families investments in oil, banking and insurance to evaporate? Or do you think he figures he can make more money through the government?
mickeysears 2 years ago
how old are you? this next 100 years is going to be utterly insane, in my life time I expect to see cybernetic technology, nanotechnology, virtual reality, the elimination of the monetary system, technological singularity and post scarcity, as well as post human/trans humans. Wait 10-20 years for the old people to die off, and just wait and see what happens. Seriously
TheMetacognologist 2 years ago
if a rockefeller supports something, watch out america. these people are a core pillar of the old banking elite and supporters of a world government.
MachinaSapien 2 years ago
You're one of the few people that sees the real issue. Everyone supporting a public option are complaining against big insurance companies not wanting government takovers to keep profits. They blame the capitalists. However, the indisputed capitalist families lead spokesman, Senator Jay Rockefeller, is the one most pushing for a public option. Why would the supposed biggest capitalist be the lead pusher for socialist programs? Doesn't anyone else find this strange?
mickeysears 2 years ago
reverse psychology? hahaha I dunno, though its a pretty shoddy argument your using, you don't know his motivations, maybe he's really for it, maybe he's not, your not him, why is he the "undisputed capitalist families lead spokesman"? I dispute that..prove it, your opinion is not fact unless you back it up with facts and evidence and reason and logic. Your just stating shit.
TheMetacognologist 2 years ago
You can dispute whatever you want. Who really cares. There is no doubt the The Rockefeller Family are the undisputed ecomonic kings. In a short 130 years, they have attained more wealth then The Rothschilds have in 500.
mickeysears 2 years ago
It's really you lefties that call those rich families Capitalists. I call them what they truly are. SOCIALISTS
mickeysears 2 years ago
If Rockefeller was so concerned with poor people have health insurance, his family could divert the tax credits and subsidies that his families companies get from The Federal Government and take a modest percent of his families fortune and pay for everyones annual healthcare premiums. The real issue for this socialist program is that Rockefeller doesn't want to share HIS wealth. He want's to share YOUR wealth.

Hey Ben,
It's nice to have somebody with a little bit of optimism hosting the Young Turks! Cenk, you should take a lesson!
As for the public option, I'll believe it when I see it, and until then I'm not getting optimistic.

"The funny and scary part is they have convinced regular folk that it is bad. A system THEY would benefit most from."
Why? Because someone else picks up the tab?
mickeysears 2 years ago
You pick up the tab for military spending. Bogus military contracts. Paying taxes for health care is so bad?
Then again i understand as America was built on tax revolt and hate anything tax related. Its no wonder why your public infrastructure is crumbling.
pooyan6969 2 years ago
Military spending is clearly listed in The Constitution. Although I think we spend way too much on it. Items like healthcare, schools, police and infrastructure are not. They are state and local issues that can't be addressed because The Federal Gvoernment takes such a big piece of our salaries that the states just simply can't tax enough to do it's own job. If we were to cut The Federal Gvoernment and allow the States do tax enough, our country would be in much better shape.
mickeysears 2 years ago
This i agree on. Your country spends so much on the military and domestic spending is second fiddle. Health care and schools should be items that are in your constitution to be funded or the very least made a priority.
It is clearly shown that those areas are crumbling.
pooyan6969 2 years ago
"paying more taxes would still cost you less money than you pay for insurance now."
But wouldn't someone have to pay for the difference? Just who is suppose to pay for you?
mickeysears 2 years ago
No and here's why. Government insurance does not have to advertise, meaning they don't need that extra money to spend on that. Also everyone could get insurance, and that would mean more people paying in, meaning less money per person would needn't to be paid.

You can't have a mandate without a public option. Fine if you want to do some of the other things in the bill like doing away with recision and turning people down because of preexisting conditions, but having a mandate without a public option does nothing for lowering costs will crush the middle class even more. It makes no sense at all.

ebertnroeper 2 years ago 2
It's a blend of public and private, basic government care and personal insurance or out of pocket expense for other things.
Not that you'll hear that from any American politician, espescially the Republicans who couldn't say one true thing about Canadian health care if you put a gun to their heads.

The UK has what you would call a public option, the national health service. You also have the option of using a private practice as well if you prefer. Canada is along the same lines I believe.

For those who can't keep up with corporate America, eat shit and die and may your children starve to death!!!
fywacia 2 years ago 2
Without the working class there would BE no Wall Street. We're the pillar that keeps your self-righteous ass from tumbling into the wastes. The real solution is not dog eat dog, but population control. The more people we have the harder it is to sustain our way of life. The more people, the more fighting and pollution, consumption and debt. Families shouldn't be having more than 1-2 children let alone 10. Fuck your class system, we're all in this together.
