  • The spice must flow.

Oh, and Dobby there has gotta clean it up.

  • This video went viral on Yerevan

  • dobby

  • i like these because even though its playing so fast it gives a quick overview on how to textureize and build items in blender and you did an amazing job with the elf

  • now make him a sock!

  • Only... Amazing!

  • This is good. But probably unriggable.

  • wonder exactly how many mouse clicks this took

  • my god you its a genius O__O *__*

  • incredible, now, you can to do Voldemort?kkk im kidding, but if you want

  • thumbs up for astral projection

  • How did you scale the radius of proportional editting plz??!!!!! :O

  • NICE MODEL...WOULD BE A SHAME IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO IT....ARRRRRRRRRR....

  • Dooby has been brought back from the dead ;)

How long did the whole process take you?

  • This is a pretty awesome model. :)

  • how did you make more edges/faces around the base of the neck and mouth?

  • This is really interesting, thank you for posting this. How long did this take in real time?

  • Which button do you press for 0:04? G?

  • @Klotzerine if you're talking about the selection with falloff, it's called the "proportional editing" tool, and it's the little blue target/circle shape there at the bottom of the 3D viewport, just to the right of center

  • @ward7299 Thank you!

  • @ward7299

The scort cut for the falloff is "O" :)

Sure you already knew that, good work btw :)

  • @Klotzerine As Klotzerine said, its called proportional editing. You could look for the little icon for it (little grey circle when activated it turns blue) or the Default keybind is the Letter O. =]

The middle mouse roller changes the area of effect. I've only just begun learning how to use this but I've seen someone before (in a fluid simulation tutorial) make a bowl very easily.

  • Save often, save regularly, pray it doesn't crash while saving...

  • Blender kept crashing because windows was jealous of what ward was doing :D

  • This was uploaded on my Birthday... im assuming you made it for me.

  • It would actually take me years to do something like this. Great job!

  • bigest pain about game desing

  • Modeling without reference or screen split! You're crazy! But very, very good :P

It's nice to see head models comming from box moddeling and not face by face too.

  • ... i saw a cube. that i understood.

    after that... i got lost...

do you have any tutorials on modeling from a cube?

  • @aquaflare1 There is a tutorial explaining how he did this model. The link is in the description of this video.

  • But... HOW The FIRETRUCK DO YOU DO THAT!

  • Those 14 minutes were legendary :)

  • dude your awsome if you have the time could you make me a motorbike? plz

  • x0.5 speed right ? haha ^^

    GOOD JOB !! looks great

  • That's pretty cool wish I could do that. How did u learn?

  • amazing, i defiantly plan to check out your walk through :) and maybe next time, you can show us how to do the body and the "House Elf clothes" too :)

  • WTF thats amazing! and using blender wich sucks! imagine what you could do in maya or 3ds max!

  • @dfghj241 blender does not suck

  • @lovetoplay94 i don't know man, i think it sucks, probaly blender is a god like of free softwares, but definitly the 3ds max or maya(wich i have and i can tell the diference) its better, the only problem is the price lol

  • @dfghj241 To each their own I guess

  • @dfghj241 Indeed. XD

Here's a little comparison from my experiences last time I tried 3DsMax... SUPER laggy interface with umbersome UI. Minus the new mesh modelling tools which seemed kinda nice though. Destructive modifiers still there, SUPER slow handling of vertices, slow sculpt tools, slow start times, It took literally a minute to boot up. No harmonic coordinates and no useful weight painting tools. And the mesh view is about 90% vertex finding (RAGE HERE) and 10% modelling. So yeah. Fun.

  • Dobby is dead now in the new harry potter

  • looks like dobby

  • BAD DOBBY! Great model!

  • Dang, I don't live near any spice stores D=<.

  • Like I said bro... Great taste in music!! haha can't think of a better way to watch a tutorial!! lol

  • this was very interesting to see it start from scratch and see the end result

how often were you saving to restore it after those crashes? or was it set to autosave once in a while?

  • @Riyuzakisan the crashes were mostly taking place during the texture paint session; and those were only really causing problems with the texture map. the model itself didn't really need to be saved very often at that point, just the texture.

  • sell it to blizzard as "new" Imp.

Or wait.. it's to good for blizzard..

  • .... EPIC!! D: WOW! AMAZING! i think i have a little tear in my eye :'-)

  • was it hard for you to change from blender 2.49 to 2.5?

  • @coolymichael it was. it took me a long time to start using it, but now i'll never turn back :D

  • @ward7299 is it worth changing for the new features? cause its very hard for me to change and i dont know

  • @coolymichael Trust me, it is.

  • @PotadoTomado yeah i know i changed a couple of moths ago and it was very hard : / but now i feel like a t home

  • @ward7299 How do you render a background image or video in Blender 2.5?

  • @ward7299 ive tried blender 2.5 and im still finding it really difficult to switch anything you reccomend to help me relear the layout?

  • David Ward is the spice.

  • do you ever use a graphics pen when sculpting??

  • @vicrobinsontattoo no, i've only used the ol' keyboard and mouse. i honestly wouldn't know where to start trying to use a pen :P

  • @ward7299 well im about to attempt after watching your tut on making home boy for the 3rd time, to do one.... :D wish a newb luck

  • I wish I could sculpt like that :( makes me jealous, good work man :)

  • this is incredible, excited to do the entire tutorial! thanks! :D

  • u use SSS?? for the ears??

  • @blenderCGartist SSS was used on the whole model

  • Comment removed

  • @eukbos the tutorial is now online at blendercookie, check the description for the link

  • Oh my good !

  • excellent work (=

  • cool stuff

  • OH MY GOD!

    THIS IS REALISM!

  • I would love to see a tutorial on proper unwrapping and texture painting on BC. I especially wonder how you aligned the face verts and relaxed them around 08:30

And a tutorial I have searched around for for AGES (literally over a year) is how to paint epidermal and subdermal maps and using them for SSS shading. If you could do this I would be forever grateful :)

  • @ninthjake i've not really experimented very much with the subdermal layers; i can typically get the results i want by just playing with the standard settings, for the most part.

  • Would love to see a proper UV-unwrapping tutorial on BC. I specifically want to know how you aligned the front face and how you relaxed it around 08:30

  • @ninthjake i aligned it by selecting all the center verts, scaling them to 0% in the X-axis, then "pinning" them, and running the unwrap again. i "relaxed" it by just scaling it with the Proportional Editing turned on, and just increased/decreased its influence

  • how did you get the light to leak though the ear like that? Was that subsurface scattering?

  • @TwirlySocrates that is indeed what i used, "front" set to 1, "back" set to 3 (i think)

  • Wow. Mr Ward, you never cease to amaze me. Have you even modeled scenery/settings?

  • @loonybin1125 not very much, i'm mostly a character guy :P

  • You should audio swap this and put some good tunes on it.

  • @CAlex6977 good idea :)

  • now give him eye color! :D really good!

  • Wow thats a pretty awesome model

  • Quick question... how do you choose how much the subsurf affects something. I know in 2.4x you would press ctrl + e. does any1 know how how in 2.5x?

  • looks really good

  • doby!

  • Mr Ward. That is absolutely fantastic and inspiring. Great, great work!! :D

  • do you have any tutorials planned that will be normal speed where you go over UV textures using Gimp in conjunction with Blender, as you did in this one?

  • @Blender3D1234 keep an eye out at blendercookie, should have one up there soon :)

  • nice, the sculpting in blender has improved to an almost z brush level.

Btw will you be attending the blender conference?

  • @MattGraeme nah, no time/money. perhaps next year :)

  • TEACH US!

    *bows down*

  • wow, very cool!

  • Sped up and still 13 minutes?!

Dang, it's going to take a while for me to get used to modeling O_O.

  • So there I was at a pub and....that sculting is badass!

  • OMG is amazing

  • Plz make a tutorial series on blender cookie for how to do this!!

  • @syth406 Just read ANY anatomy book, watch ANY basic modeling and texturing tutorial, than ANY sculpting tutorial, than practice a lot every day and you will be doing stuff like this without thinking. ;)

  • Always nice to see the process behind high quality art.

  • You used GIMP <3

  • Awesome work as usual! Glad to see you giving GIMP a spin. Sad to see Blender crashing on you so much., but way to persevere. Cheers!

  • thats sweet dude. how long did it take?

  • did the program keep crashing on you?

  • @HENTAI125 haha, yep, when i was trying to do the texture painting. it got a bit frustrating, as you can imagine :P

  • @ward7299 yeah, it crashes when i try to experiment with diferent things in the program, lol

  • That is completely AWESOME! Well done...

  • great work- liked that you added SSS in final render.

  • how long did it take to make?

  • Freakin' wow!

  • Any change you have a tutorial planned about this in the future? And seems that there is a bug with texture painting in blender ;)

  • @anariaq as a matter of fact i do, it'll be over at blender cookie (dot) com :)

  • @ward7299 Thats sounds fantastic!

  • @ward7299 yeay

  • Great! I would have worked days on this.

  • pretty cool, makes me want to get back into blender

  • wow

  • Awsome. It's a shame no one big like dreamworks or pixar haven't discovered you or blender.

  • i am 99

  • how long did it actually take?

  • @RPSBob about 2.5 hours

  • @ward7299 Ugh, if it takes that long in blender to make that I cant imagine making it in cinema 4d.

  • ohhh my god!!! wow! that's fantastic

  • amazing and very informative, as always

    thankyou

  • I like how the sss shows up really good on the ear

  • this is amazing

  • you are awesome
