  • Winston Churchill's favourite cartoonist David Low stayed here during the war , he drew caricatures of the owner of the Sqare&Compass and guest which used to hand on the wall.

    A small ship went aground near by, it took weeks for the skipper to report it as he was drinking scrumpy in the pub.
