  • I liked the tempo. You really nailed it, brah.

  • The tempo its just right. I´m learning the piece right now and my teacher insisted that I play slow. Thank you. I just discovered this treat while searching for Die Kranke Puppe (The Sick Doll). She´s really sick. Poor little thing. Let´s play her better:))))

  • Excellent job here. Very hypnotic, mysterious, melancholy, expressive. I want this played at my funeral!

  • minor. im 10. and i enjoy minor music. and im hyper. weird huh? great job love it.

  • Nice performance! Bravo!

I just wanted to share how in my album this song is followed by Dolly's Funeral and then soon after My New Dolly. :|

  • I watched this video like 100 times, do u have the music sheet? where can I find it? Thank you!

  • beautiful music splendid work i am in level 3 in piano cause i'm only in 4 grade and i playd the song

  • i dont know who you are but you feel it exactly as i do... and i like the sound effect.

  • 5/5 for sound qual.

  • you can find the sheets here musicnotes

  • the sick doll died

watch Tchaikovsky - The Doll's Funeral

  • i <3 this type of music.

  • I remember this one from primary school assemblies. The music teacher played piano pieces as we children traipsed in and this one (she called it "Dolly Is Ill") was always followed by "Doll's Funeral" and then "New Doll". The minor chords and alternating high and low notes in the right hand always suggested the distress and uncertainty caused by serious illness. As liuketto says: "very emotional and sad".

  • It is not perfect, but better than the other recordings. The slower tempo and the really subtle accents on certain notes give it that proper dark feeling, which is why they used it in "Kings."

  • @JHoff1991

I concur, Kings skillfully implemented my favourite song of all time. That's certainly a big ol' bucket o' win. Period . <---and another actual period to convey my god damn adamance.

  • Very beautiful - I compared few versions on youtube and I really like how it sounds in yours. Thanks

  • not bad... room for improvement

  • I like your speed, the way it should sound homey.

  • this song is used prominently in the NBC tv show "Kings". I really like it, beautifully dark.

  • I checked for how pianists that recorded this song played and I found yours to be the best. Others are a bit faster and you can't really dive in to the deep feeling the notes produce. Do you know any pianist that plays closest to your style?

  • i prefer this piece played slower although it is supposed to be cut time which is probably why everyone else plays it quickly. but people like to put their own style into it and i like the slower version ^^

  • It seems like your asking for tone not style.... Tone is partly the pianist but the piano itself is the largest contributing factor......

  • I still can't find the music sheet. >:[

  • its hard to find the sheet music unless your going to buy the book or just that specific piece. its only 1 page. i dont know if im allowed to post links on this so ill pm you the links and directions

  • i"m learning that right now and it doesnt sound anything like that! i love this peice!

  • Good job! Very emotional and sad...as it must be

  • I like it :) i think i'll play this one for my next piano assignment. it's in the book i have for my class.

  • you are really wonderful, cubusdk

  • I used to play all the doll pieces by tchaikovsky.. this one was and still is my favourite :)

  • I like your dynamics, though the tempo is a bit too slow to my liking, and the rhythm sounds a bit like 4/4 instead of 2/4 to me. The melody is in quavers, you play them cross the measures (pedal is your foe here, just leave it), which takes a bit of the brilliance away (imho). Your pianissimo however is really excellent, esp. towards the end, I like it!

Note that at 0:38 (11th measure) you play a G in the bass where it should've been an A.

  • At the 11th measure I play G and F in the left hand as stated in the score used but checking another score it says G and E are the right notes. I don't see any A's in my scores at the 11th measure.

  • Apparently we have different versions of the score, that makes it hard to compare. But I was wrong about the correct note, it's only one note in my score, and it is an E. Sorry for the confusion. Compare the same part (0:38) with others on Youtube and you'll notice the difference.

In other words, it is when the bass takes over and mimics the original theme (from bar 9): G-Fis-E-(D+Fis)etc.

(I'm a bit surprised that different scores contain different notes, but that happens more)

  • And of course, maybe I (and the performers of the other versions) are just wrong. Your change of the theme there does sound quite modern ;)

  • I suspect your version to be the correct one, as the score used seems to be a quite new transcription with possible typos. But both variants are pleasent to the ears I think.

  • so..beutiful molody ....

  • Very, Very nicely done!

    Congratulations. I believe you captured

the spirit of the piece, or rather brought it out.

    Thanks for posting.

  • this is the best version I've found on youtube!

all the other ones are so...fast.

But I love this version! very nicely done!

  • i play this piece its really easy to play but very expresive in a way that it sounds more complex than it really is

  • very nice experession!

  • Simple and perfect..love it

  • good control
