  • I roll mine up tight(out in the woods, I roll it against my stomach) but I don't have the sack inside out. I just slip it in the sack, no problem. Once you do it a few times, it gets easier. Tons of people say they can't get it in the sack. I say, they need to work smarter, not harder. Maybe I'll do a video as well.

  • @silverlion1973 Yes, I have since figured it out as well. It DOES go in very easily. A couple of practice runs and I now have it down to a science.

Just gotta do it slow and tight against my stomach or if I have a picnic table handy, even better!

  • Practice makes perfect.

  • I have a larger compression stuff sack, and stuff the explorer deluxe hammock and ocf pad with heatsheet (without sleeping bag) into the stuff sack. It is a green slumberjack 8" stuff sack ($19.99) . I clip the stuffsack to my belt, and walk along stuffing it in the bag. Works great and deploys very quick.

  • Why not just leave the thing inside the hammock with sleeping bag and all, and just roll the whole lot up together and stuff it all in a waterproof stuff sack and just use compression straps to condense it, and strap it to the outside of the backpack, then as soon as you've tied your hammock up your all set to go?trailer tent style:)

  • But it would be less effort and we all like to tinker? Lol.

  • That would not be a good plan at all. Then when you get home you would have to completely open everything up to get your sleeping bag out as you don't want to leave it compressed for any length of time. It takes no time at all to roll the hammock in the snakeskins(excluding the underpad) and roll the pad in the thermarest stuff sack. It's much quicker and a whole lot easier...really :o)

  • Is it possible to get wider snake skins that can accommodate the underpad too?, I'm going down to the post office to collect my Explorer Deluxe today(with u.cover+u.pad), so I'll have to play around and try different ways to carry it with my Alice pack, but I intend to strap it on the outside of the pack somehow as its covered in loops for cargo straps, and I want the room inside the pack for other things, but interesting point about long term sleeping bag storage.

  • I believe I have already ordered the largest size skin possible at the recommendation of Hennessey and I am pretty sure there is no way to fit the underpad in there.

Having said that, my buddy bought a pair of black panty hose. A really thick one and then cut it in two. He pulled on over one side and one over the other. Voila! Instant home made snake skin.

Try that. Super cheap and replaceable anytime.

  • I've got the biggest snakeskins available for the HH #4 snakeskin and is not designed for the pad but trust me man it's not a big deal :o) Like I was saying...It eliminates a lot of grief by putting it in a 22"x51/2" thermarest stuff sack...it's so easy and can strap on the bottom of the pack :o)

  • Sounds like a good option, thanks for the ideas

  • Clever. I wonder why they make the bag so tight to begin with?

  • To be honest (having only done this three times), I think it's because they really didn't need to make it any bigger. It actually fits perfectly.

I don't know about long term usage though. If the repeated stuffing and deploying of the pad from such a small pad would cause a lot of damage.

  • I've heard a lot of complaining that stuffing the blanket is difficult. You present a clever technique to overcome that difficulty, but it still seems time consuming. It would seem that they could make the bag a 1/4 of an inch larger and save stuffers an ounce of grief. Not to put down the product. Hennessy makes an excellent hammock. I have one myself.

  • Thanks for the comment. I really don't have any basis for making the bag bigger or smaller. I suppose a little bigger is likely not make things any worse than it is now.

My third try was very very successful and only took less than two min to put it away perfectly. So thus far, I am pretty happy with the result.

I definitely would need to wait a full season before I can comfortably say yay or nay on this double ended stuff sack.

  • Video quality is fine bro!

  • Yeah I thought of that as well. I am taking this out tomorrow in pretty reasonable weather but really rough terrain, meaning no kitchen table and let's see how well I can fold it then. Lol.

I might give it up and go with the bigger stuff sack anyway. I will see how it works out. Having said that, I've got nothing else to do at camp anyway. So two extra minutes spent, might be worthwhile.

  • Haha! I can't see myself taking the time for that. Hennessy really screwed up that one in my opinion. I failed to mention that I ripped my pad taking it out on my initial setup. Had to get it sewn. I was pissed to say the least! My fingertips went right through it. I prefer the bigger sack now LOL! Good luck to you. keep on hangin' my friend :o)

  • I just got back from an over nighter trip where we were camping next to a lake. The temp dropped pretty low in the night and the Super Shelter performed like a champ.

In the morning, I tried rolling my insulation pad for the third time (just rolling it against my body standing up), it worked out even better!

I figured it out. You gotta make sure the rolled up pad is the same width as the stuff sack. I didn't even roll it that tight and it fit fine. Oh, and use the stuff sack inside out.

  • Kool... More power to ya' I think I'll stick to my thermarest stuff sack...hehe! It's just much quicker and easier (like a hot knife through butter) As I like to carry it outside my 85 litre pack. I carry alot of gear...especially in winter. ;o)

  • Hey my friend good job there:o) But you know...that still took too long to fight that thing into that tiny stuff sack. You sure wouldn't want to be doing that in sub zero temps. Plus it's alot easier to do it on a table indoors than out in the field. I found it was so quick and easy in the 51/2"x22" thermarest stuff sacks as it doesn't need to be in your pack anyways. We just strap them on the outside in front of the sleeping bag zipper as it doesn't throw off the load anyway, because it's light
