I encourage anyone who's feeling the nostalgia to check out therebirth(dot)net... it's a 1.12 vanilla server that strives to be as close to the original vanilla wow as possible... don't be turned off by the crappiness of most private servers, there are no instant levels, donations, vote rewards, free gear, xp boosts... just pure nostalgia. One of the least buggy private servers you'll find as well, the people running it are amazing. The closest you can get to experiencing what you once loved...
Met so many friends here, and camped so many of the cool pets on my ally hunter in vanilla. Humar was a pain in the ass. I was like level 20, always in Darkshore planning to assault the barrens, grouping up with fellow lowbies and having some seriously fun world pvp.
started playing WoW during the BC expanson. I was a complete noob, but being naive was part of the fun. I had no idea what i was doing just running around asking what i was supposed to do. Wotlk was an amazing expansion when it came out. Catas release destroyed the whole world. When they changed the world they made the game simple In doing so they succesfully destroyed a crucial element of the game. The complexity of the game. You actually had to travel the world but they changed that with Cata
It sounds pathetic, but this makes me want to cry, just hearing this music. All the memories..it's terrible, but it's like having another life..like I was at these places and I miss them. It has been over a year since I last played. My and my boyfriend would sit in his room on his bed and play together. Meet some awesome friends from this game. I am tempted to play again..
@fraschy You will be disappointed, wow has become much worse tho kid frendly game. I just quit it forever month ago and don't plan to return ever again. Wow isn't anything like it was in vanilla or even tbc. Going down with every expansion, since blizz merged with activion they go after cheap popularity...
@fraschy so am i, i have tried to recreate the feeling of pre cata feeling many a time in cata but it just dosnt work because the feeling has gone, and even if origonal wow came back i dont think it would be the same :(
i remember once in the barrens there was an attack on X roads and i was about level 40. some level 60s came and took the raid out, but there was this one human left, about the same level as me and i chased him around a while, he killed me, i killed him a bit. eventually we called it quits, and i later got a whisper saying thanks for the funtimes:) good times :L
Wait a sec. You make a video as a tribute to the barrens...and at no point does anyone shout: «CHUCK NORRIS» or attack the crossraods? Shame on ya! Just kidding, that video made me feel very nostalgic.
now i really know hwat the saying 'you never know what you have until its gone' represents. I took the barrens and the other good old zones for granted- all the fab places that i had so much fun years ago in my noob days. now i just cant get the same feeling while playing
I quit WoW over a year ago, but I started back in December 06 and it is still one of the greatest games I have ever played. The Barrens brings back so many great memories that I wish I could relive. I remember when I first started my Orc hunter playing Durotar, Org, Barrens... I wish Blizzard hadn't fucked up such a great game...
while i just love the beautiful memories from this game, from the barrens especially and many others, at the same time i get sad thinking that i can never relive these memories again :(
Damn shame what they did to the music. FUCK. YOU. DEATHWING! I hope they will restore that big crack in a next xpack, that would also make sense lorewise, Powerfull Shamans and Druids could restore the whole place, and I'd love to see a scar where once the great divide was. But we will have to wait...
@ukorit Lol true dat. But to cleanse a deeply corrupted and vile wood from its Demonic taint is a bit harder than to smash the earth back together. We all could help a bit to fix it; Warriors could Thunderclap the shit out of the edges to flaten them, then the shamans stitch it together with their hocus-pocus and the druids make it all fertile again! Haha
People should look at Cataclysm from a different aspect. In WotLK and BC, NOBODY ever were in the classic WoW areas, except for capital cities. Cataclysm brings us a reason to go on those areas again. New quests, new stuff, new NPCs.. But still.. I will -damn- right miss killing headless raptors, hooveless zebras and finding a damn orc's wife, getting killed by ?? night elf hunters in Crossroads, but even if they wouldn't have changed the stuff, we wouldn't still be able to experience it again.
@Dorgye bleh, its since late wotlk when teleporting lfg sys was introduced that world became totally desolate of people and no one would go out of cities.... In tbc you would meet a lot people running to their instances or arena in nagraad, there was no flying mounts in azeroth and this was a good thing too, nowadays if anyone leave city (only reason is to farm something) they would just fly over you... I miss classic... With only ground mounts... People on the road, ashenvale, bones in brd..
i miss the old wow too the new stuff sucks and the damge output meter is the worst idea they could have had so people can be assholes to others about it
Also, think of things like Mount tabs, pet tabs, keychains. Think of the BG queue system. Think of the dynamic, immersive quests. The interaction with the lore characters. The amount of extra fun, vanity items. The increased class balance. All specs being useable, whereas before classes were assigned to one role. The updated spell graphics. The sheer amount of new content.
The -only- really bad thing in WotLK is the easy raiding. The expansions give so many new, polished, useful, fun features.
Really wish people would stop jumping on the Vanilla was perfect bandwagon.
Vanilla was fun. Everything was new, fresh, exciting, the raids were challenging, it was fun to explore, and there were some quirks, and you actually had to run to instances.
But honestly? It was broken. Really broken.
Shamans could screw people over with one proc of windfury, rogues could literally keep you locked down with nothing you could do about it, hunters could kite any melee, warriors could 2 shot with MS.

cataclysm its jsut goin to destroy the game completely woltk i personly like for dk and northrend and BC and orginginal was jsut epic i miss the old days in the barrens 3 years ago im now a lvl 80 prot warriror
They should make classic realms, tbc realms and so on.. I'm sure that like 50% of wow players miss those old days and think that latest expansions ruined the game. I would play classic at level 60, but what u get now is 80 dudes ganking you, no 60 raids and etc.. Is it so hard to make one realm classic-only? Meh.. Blizzard is good company, but it fails somethimes, as they want more money.
@zuokula2 This has been brought up MANY times in the forums and each time blizz gives the same answer: its a ton of work maintaining the current servers, it would just be too much to create and upkeep individual servers for each "part of WoW" that people miss. Also, how did WotLK ruin the game? It has zones, quests that are INTERESTING if you pay attention, and hard-modes in raids like Ulduar and ToC.
@LordManda2 WotLK didn't ruin the game.. the patches did.. I mean cmon.. I stopped playing because everyone had the same gear.. It was to easy with those damn emblems.. even noobs could get T9.. you know.. I had like 12k dps in Icecrown Citadel and another guy with same gear and talents had 6.5k.. thats why I stopped playing the game.. I just hope that a game as Guild Wars 2 would bring skill back in the game.. because that just more fun. I still miss WoW tho.. good old days and memories
Because of all memories and people you meet. You just cannot forget. I am so happy that my friend insisted with pushing me to try this game.. Because I never liked "sci-fi" games :) But I loved it, and I do not regret playing this game and investing my time, instead playing basketball outside for example.. Because all memories I collected in my playtime is just precious.. If we invent time machine, I will definitely travel to july 2008 again. That is my story. For the horde!
since I didn't have fly point. It was 1AM an my friend needed to go sleep. I was all alone in Barrens, leveling, and excitement when mobs dropped GREY items, was so divine. I was so happy if anything dropped from mobs :) So excited..This is me.looking at Crossroads from top of barrens: tinyurl . com / 3abgpf4 . I was so excited. I stoped playing at february 2010. I didn't play 5 months, and nostalgia is killing me. With my FPS favourite games(COD series, CSS), this is one of the best games ever.
It was 2 years ago... I started playing game, that everyone was talking a long time... Started with trial account,.. I leveled to level 10 as undead priest, and I couldn't find any new quest givers.. My friend who was level 20 at that time(he started playing too) told me "come with me to zepellin and we will go to other land".. I was so excited.. This is my first time in live outside Orgrimmar(july 2008): tinyurl . com / 392ugx .. I was so excited.. We walked through Durotar to Crossroads (1/2)
I have checked all five parts of each music set. There is a part of the Barrens I heard that I loved so much, but none of them have it. I still believe there is a Barrens & Dry Day 3 :/
First time I came to the Barrens was on my level 11 undead priest. I had just gotten a quest to speak with someone in the Crossroads and because I didn't knew better I decided to locate it. After at least one hour of running around and asking for directions I came to this place. I did quests, I met my first in-game friends, and afterwards I did the Wailing Caverns for the first time. This place is packed full of memories, epic nostalgia, the Barrens forever!
i have been playing since 2004.. not to bragg but.. ive seen this game diverge into monstrosity i would call it, i lost the feeling of true wow and the story, along time ago, i got a stone guard warrior, i come back to the barrens even today every now and then, and just climb the hills and listen to the music, gives me a rather sad feeling as this game has become a big part of my childhood.
@Dorkus89Malorkus Lol we never succeeded. As alliance I used to raid Barrens but Horde always found out, and I'd stay unflagged for PvP as the rest of the raid was fighting, taunting Horde with /wave and /taunt lol
I have so many memories in The Barrens:*), running around with friends lolling and progressing as a young teen...WoW lack to feeling these days as they had before....in Vanilla We Trust<3
I dont like leveling in the barrens because i though it was boring but when i was higher lvl i just love riding my mount around it looking at the giraffes :) and pwning the dinos >:)
;) makes me wana shead a tear not cause it a video game , no, but memories i had here with my guildies rading crossroads at lvl 20 haha i put it all together too...haha... i used to sometimes when i was bored "/sit" and just listen this music... i would just take in the great artwork... WOw i really love this moment i wana take it all in.. Music alone is whats awsome in this game...
That is so true!!! WoW classic was best. WotLK ruined it. Now Catalysm is on the way, and it will ruin every landscape, but some will be recreated, they chose of all Desolace, I would love to keep Elwynn, The Barrens and STV. And some beautiful others. Like Tanaris... Now... :(
@RickRay9 in my opinion, WoTLK didnt ruin it, even though it was never as good as vannila and TBC and didnt quite have the same feeling as them, i still had fun playing it. people said it was too easy, but i still had a lot of fun and good memories from it, even thought it wasnt quite the same as vannila and TBC. But cata has ruined the whole thing for me i just cant play wow anymore theres no fun in it and it dosnt give me that same feeling it used to
I always found allaince players more acting as assholes then horde players NOT that i'm a im huge word of warcraft player but in my short period experience I have learned how socail players are in both side's I would rather be a horde player then allaince not that i hate the allaince the towns and city's are amazing BLIZZARD did a Great job but then the one's who using it in-game are far from nice
That's so true man. When you're leveling for the very first time, you're always driven by curiosity. What creatures live in these areas? What about these? What do they do?
When you have a level 80 it's like...okay is my gear ok? what about my talent build? what time's my raid?
In THAT sense, leveling is much better than raiding ^^, but gameplay wise...well, it's not really hard to tell :)
I know, I can still remember the first time I came here. I was a lvl 14 undead rogue straight out of my stint in silverpine and I thought so differently about this place. I was amazed, intrigued and excited. When I think of the Barrens today I still am those things just I didn't know what the Barrens were then and now I do.
The bit that starts at 2:00 is the most magical for me. I remember exploring Ashenvale, coming upon the Ashenvale-Barrens border, and sneaking around the "back way" where the log fence had been blown out. And then this music started playing. Vanilla WoW brings back some great memories.
I think the barrens is what brings the horde close together, alliance don't have a shared zone like this and I found they are a lot less social than horde.
God, I love The Barrens. I remember when I played this with my friends, doing everything we could to reach the next level, going into the Wailing Caverns and so on. Damn I miss those times..
beautiful. takes me back to 2006 lvling my troll rogue (lol). i was so noob and struggled so hard, did the instances always had people to group with and the chat was cathartic. wow will never be the same.
You should come to Balnazzar, there seems to be an endless supply of people all over, even staying to level to 70 in outlands instead of moving to Northrend once they hit Lv68. I reroll all the time and always find Lv10-20's questing in the Barrens. You should amke a toon on Balnazzar and check it out :)
[3.Local Defense]: The Crossroads are under attack!!! [3.Local Defense]: The Crossroads are under attack!!! [3.Local Defense]: The Crossroads are under attack!!!
i remember mulgore and barrens when i was really low lvl..... now i dont even play wow anymore....damn i miss it.... barrens my favourite region in the whole game, the music, the landscape, the quests, everything is so perfect! I even remember mining copper and tin here :)))) good old days..... just not in my grasp anymore...
Same here. Same here. I stopped playing last december, but I'm still keeping up with news and all on some websites, thinking about going back some day. It's strange how very much this game can have you miss it. And the strange thing is, it's not even the high level content. I remember, I loved to log in in the mornings, listen to the music, watch the sun go up, go about questing in the barrens, or, like you, some mining. That always made my day.
Haha, Mulgore. it seems you had the same chars as I did. Tauren and Orc?
I remember the first time seeing a Kodo herd wandering through Mulgore. At that time they were the largest thing I'd ever seen in the game. I and another guy just stood there, staring at em wander by. That was such a grand moment. I adored the green fields... and Thunderbluff remains my -home-.
yea i have had Tauren huntard, and much later i made blood elf pally :))) hunter was my main, ofc. Ye thunderbluff kicks ass, really beautiful i wish i could live there IRL... :))) In mulgore i admired the rolling plains when the sun shined upon the verdant grassland...so beautiful... good old days
Orc Hunter here, and a Tauren Druid. I adored Mulgore levelling. Such a beautiful place.
Haha, yeah, I'd move to thunderbluff in a heartbeat. The Tauren seem to be very nice people, and there is a calm and serenity about that place, which makes you just enjoy hanging out there.
i stopped playing 5 months ago.... in october. i had to stop because of school... but my parents were angry and I had to stop. Now, what other ppl are interested in, I find it very boring :) Nothing entartained me so good as WoW did. Who knows, maybe when schoolyear ends i might play it again :)))) but hardly..... It's possible that nothing in the world is so entertaing like WoW and that's why we miss it so much.
Yeah, same here. Took a bit too much of my time, so I had to stop it. Plus, couldn't get Wrath from the website. Gave me a stupid 202 error all the time, which seems to be a big problem, and I didnt want to play my chars only at level 70, and miss out on the wrath content, so I dropped subscription. Will pick it up again some other time, when I'll get wrath.
That said, I think the place is just so damn well done. There is a ton of atmosphere. You -breath- those places...
Always 'always' do the barrens. My druid, my Hunter, my Warlock. I always take em over to the barrens. I love that place. I remember as I started out and mentioned in Guild chat "I really adore the barrens" and the other guys went '...seriously?' and I was "Yeah! the Music! The scenery! It's just calming and relaxing". In turn I couldn't stand Ashenvale at all :/
totally agree man...... i lvled my hunter and my playy there, best lvl 10+ place :) most beautiful landscape in the game and the music is really nice that flute just kicks ass :) damn i miss this game....
Don't misunderstand me. Ashenvales music and the place itself is beautiful, but it was a b*tch to get around there without a mount, and at the level you got there, you usually didn't have a mount... so... just annoying.

LordManda2 1 year ago

If you wanna play vanilla (pre-BC, akak 1.12.1) you can download client and create account here:
It's a newly started private server. Not many chars there now, but get your friends and we'll be many :)

@Rastlink Sorry, can't poste URLs.
Just google "splashgame vanilla" and you should get the site in first hit.

WOW classic has the best video game music ever. The music alone dragged me to this game and kept me amazed even tho the gameplay bored me.
Skandalos 2 years ago 5
That is so true!!! WoW classic was best. WotLK ruined it. Now Catalysm is on the way, and it will ruin every landscape, but some will be recreated, they chose of all Desolace, I would love to keep Elwynn, The Barrens and STV. And some beautiful others. Like Tanaris... Now... :(

Change is enevetable and good times should be kept in memory, no one can take them away from you.
kodanik66 1 year ago
@RickRay9 in my opinion, WoTLK didnt ruin it, even though it was never as good as vannila and TBC and didnt quite have the same feeling as them, i still had fun playing it. people said it was too easy, but i still had a lot of fun and good memories from it, even thought it wasnt quite the same as vannila and TBC. But cata has ruined the whole thing for me i just cant play wow anymore theres no fun in it and it dosnt give me that same feeling it used to

There are assholes in both the Horde and the Alliance.
Barrens are awesome though! I remember the music well from my Horde days.
TheArgentCrusader 2 years ago 2
I always found allaince players more acting as assholes then horde players NOT that i'm a im huge word of warcraft player but in my short period experience I have learned how socail players are in both side's I would rather be a horde player then allaince not that i hate the allaince the towns and city's are amazing BLIZZARD did a Great job but then the one's who using it in-game are far from nice
If you do something wrong
Allaince player: NOOB NOOB FAGGOT
Horde players:LOL HAHA HEHE

Well I just miss the raids lvl 20 in the taurens you know, at the very biginning, there was no such things as another dimention etc etc.

Omarions 2 years ago
whats imba
GoldenAngel3341 2 years ago
Yeah, the only reason why I started an Orc recently, was to try and re-live my 1st leveling experience through the Barrens :D
It was so much fun, such a big world to explore it seemed, so many creatures :)
You see things a bit differently when you have level 80s lol (but Barrens leveling will always be in my hearth :D lol)
JLucRob 2 years ago
That's so true man. When you're leveling for the very first time, you're always driven by curiosity. What creatures live in these areas? What about these? What do they do?
When you have a level 80 it's like...okay is my gear ok? what about my talent build? what time's my raid?
In THAT sense, leveling is much better than raiding ^^, but gameplay wise...well, it's not really hard to tell :)
David196 2 years ago
I know, I can still remember the first time I came here. I was a lvl 14 undead rogue straight out of my stint in silverpine and I thought so differently about this place. I was amazed, intrigued and excited. When I think of the Barrens today I still am those things just I didn't know what the Barrens were then and now I do.
JadenTheCoolGuy 2 years ago 3
The bit that starts at 2:00 is the most magical for me. I remember exploring Ashenvale, coming upon the Ashenvale-Barrens border, and sneaking around the "back way" where the log fence had been blown out. And then this music started playing. Vanilla WoW brings back some great memories.
Cyonoc 2 years ago
I think the barrens is what brings the horde close together, alliance don't have a shared zone like this and I found they are a lot less social than horde.

You should come to Balnazzar, there seems to be an endless supply of people all over, even staying to level to 70 in outlands instead of moving to Northrend once they hit Lv68. I even remember mining copper and tin here :)))) good old days..... just not in my grasp anymore...
chetaioo 3 years ago
Same here.
Just love the damn game :)
Seelendrachen 3 years ago 2
Haha, Mulgore. it seems you had the same chars as I did. Tauren and Orc?
I remember the first time seeing a Kodo herd wandering through Mulgore. At that time they were the largest thing I'd ever seen in the game. I and another guy just stood there, staring at em wander by. That was such a grand moment. I adored the green fields... and Thunderbluff remains my -home-.
Seelendrachen 3 years ago
yea i have had Tauren huntard, and much later i made blood elf pally :))) hunter was my main, ofc. Ye thunderbluff kicks ass, really beautiful i wish i could live there IRL... :))) In mulgore i admired the rolling plains when the sun shined upon the verdant grassland...so beautiful... good old days
chetaioo 3 years ago
Orc Hunter here, and a Tauren Druid. I adored Mulgore levelling. Such a beautiful place.
Haha, yeah, I'd move to thunderbluff in a heartbeat. The Tauren seem to be very nice people, and there is a calm and serenity about that place, which makes you just enjoy hanging out there.
Seelendrachen 3 years ago
i stopped playing 5 months ago.... in october. i had to stop because of school... but my parents were angry and I had to stop. Now, what other ppl are interested in, I find it very boring :) Nothing entartained me so good as WoW did. Who knows, maybe when schoolyear ends i might play it again :)))) but hardly..... It's possible that nothing in the world is so entertaing like WoW and that's why we miss it so much.
chetaioo 3 years ago

In turn I couldn't stand Ashenvale at all :/
Seelendrachen 3 years ago 3

deadman11111111 3 years ago
Don't misunderstand me. Ashenvales music and the place itself is beautiful, but it was a b*tch to get around there without a mount, and at the level you got there, you usually didn't have a mount... so... just annoying.
Seelendrachen 3 years ago
