the chord progression on this song is pure genious, melancholic and intensely beautiful. well done daniel for what must have taken a huge amount of effort and time to master!
Played fantastically well, but i have to admit i think you shpuld play your telecaster more, johnny plays tele's so much, its a misguided belief that he just strummed his jingly jangly rickenbacker, although i love ricks and you have a gorgeous one.
And I disagree about the Ricky, it's an almost jolly riff in parts - runs that fine line, and the Ricky pushes it over the edge for me. (It's amazing what he managed and at such a young age, the song is about child murderers so he adds the childlike quality to the riff without appearing jolly).
Hi, I just revisited your video after a while. I really like how you combine the two (or more?) original guitar tracks into one, especially the strummed part sound really nice. I've posted my own take on this song as a video response. It's a bit simpler than yours, just what I hear as "Guitar 1" on the record. Check it out.
Another masterful Marr composition. With a comprex structure and carefully crafted as ever, it includes some dissonances, which Morrissey, not surprisingly found appropriate to convey the sinister atmosphere of his lyrics about the Moors' murders.
What do you mean, "how are they"? You hear it, right? Do you like the sound? Well, trust your own ears if you like it! They are expensive, but you get what you pay for, generally.
This is one of my favorite Smiths song to play on the guitar. Could you play it on the tele and play the bass too? I think this song in particular demonstrates how bass and guitar worked so well together in the Smiths. Without the bass you can hear there's definitely something missing. (Btw, the Ric 12-string sure is a nice instrument, but it kinda messes up the original melody, IMHO.)
As well as being the closing track on "The Smiths" this was also on the b-side of the Heaven Knows 12" single. I once (17 years ago) tried to work out the guitar part by slowing it down to 33 and a third rpm -and still couldn't get it right. It's always been one of my favourite Marr melodies - the Morrissey-free ending is perfection, in the same way that That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore is. So, thanks for posting this; it is next on my list of Earwicker interpretations to learn. Thanks.
i see..that sheds so much as to how to play it..i always found that song to be the essence of the smiths. the lyrics and marr's guitar just shimmer..manchester so much to answer for!
wow.. at his 19.. i wish i could do something like that next year

Just an amp modelling effect called "clean twin", so as clean as you can get without being direct-injected.
