  • If this was an SNL sketch in the 90's, there may have been a Paul Fistinyourface movie.

  • Catherine O'Hara says she's Robin Duke. John Candy says he's in Grade 9. LOL.

  • boss video!!

  • by god! just like my junior high days. i know these people.

  • BOSS

  • k...what the hell..does last grade or lost grade mean? Why does he say that anyone know? really curious! like last/lost school ? WTF!

  • LMFAOOO! lol you know if I was alive back then...I would be the life of that dance floor! lol. 45 year old high school students lol

  • I went to a school dance, and I swear that one kid had the exact same moves as Harold Ramis does here...

...trying to do what looks awesome on SCTV isn't so awesome when you try it in 2011, sadly.

  • Robin Duke? lol

  • Ted Rogers was Videotape Editor !!!

  • Boss sketch! Top of the Pops was like this in the late 60s and 70s. Mel has better hair than Tony Blackburn, though. (^_^) Ramis was in the disco part of the House of Beauty sketch - the man really can dance!

  • hey, alex pimplehair....boss name!

  • You rock! THANKS!!

  • @TheGodsuncle Haa! Thanks, but it's MEL that rocks!!! LOL.

  • This is a hilarious send-up of what a Canadian disco show would've been back then. Love SCTV!

  • This must also be the first appearance of Paul Fistinyourface.

  • lol Alexic Pimplehair. Boss threads.

  • OMG grade 9 he looks like he's 38? lol

  • Boss threads... Rick

  • Boy, white people sure can dance, can they?

  • Everyone who appeared in this video is an entertainment God!

  • Catherine O'Hara is SO GREAT!!!

  • Paul Fistinyourface is da man!!!

  • My favorite Rock Piles.... hmmm. Either the one with the Queen Haters on it, or the one with Richard Harris doing disco MacArthur Park.

  • Oh - Richard Harris wins hands down!! LOL.

  • Yes! Anytime Richard Harris - Dave Thomas - appeared on SCTV, the throwing of a brick was always involved!

  • @pilgrimomega does anyone recall dave thomas as neil young with don

yelling"neil neil wake up you doing them qualudes again"

at wich point dave snaps uot of it and starts singing

  • Alexic Pimplehair really cracked Mel up at 2:35. Good thing Paul Fistinyourface didn't start wrecking place. And wrecking, and wrecking...

  • Hey P.: How do you like all the variations of Rockin' Mel's show? My favorite is Harold Ramis talking "directly" into the mic, and his dancing skills. Fall down funny!

  • Hey F.: I love Mel's Rock Pile. Yes, Harold getting right up on the mic is great, and when he get's the name of his school wrong! Nobody wants to say "hi" to anyone out there. How 'bout Joe holding up 12 fingers? Eugene is about to lose it!

    Pimplehair. WTF??

  • All grades and all schools are BOSS GRADES and BOSS SCHOOLS. Candy was awesome!

  • wow who da last dancer

  • No shout outs. That is so awesome.

  • The Sunflowers with "Boogie Seeds"

  • One of the best shows to ever come out of Canada, and especially Edmonton.

  • The irony of the premise of "SCTV" (a very low-budget TV station) was that, in New York, the first station to air the series upon its first being offered in syndication in the U.S. was WOR-TV (Channel 9) - which was run on a very shoestring budget by then-owners RKO General. In short, life imitating art.

  • I think this was a parody of City TV's Boogie show. They played clips of that show about a decade ago as part of the Retro Boogie Dance Party on Much More Music. There were two hosts, first was Paul who was kind of slick. But then the following year was Vlad, who was kind of nerdy, but without the glasses that Mel's wearing.

Funny that Catherine O'Hara is playing a character with the name of a future SCTV cast member, Robin Duke. I don't think it was a coincidence.

  • Robin Duke & Catherine O'Hara were school friends. Duke followed O'Hara into Second City.

  • @pizzazzism - The two also performed with Catherine's sister, Mary Margaret O'Hara, as "The Lemon Twins" in the 1985 mockumentary "The Last Polka" about the Schmenge brothers. But as to why Ms. O'Hara would have played a character with the name Robin Duke in this sketch - two words: Inside joke. Besides the history you brought up.

  • You're right on the dates. SCTV would air first-hand Mondays and repeat later in the week on Friday nights in 1977.

  • Thanks for the info Skeeter.
