First, congrats on the fish...obviously takes some talent to hook and land that thing.

But what I don't get is using alternative fishing methods to lure the fish, and then catching it on the fly rod...I mean if you're going to use a spinning lure (teaser) why don't you just catch it with that lure?

I would say you're half spin-lure fishing, half fly-fishing. Similarly, throwing a bunch of store bought bait around your boat and casting a fly in front of a fish's face is half bait fishing.

He cast the fly therefore he is flyfishing. I can understand if he just payed out his fly line while they were moving but he actually cast the fly. It doesn't matter if he is trolling his fly (don't blame him doing hand over hand stripping for saltwater would wear you out before you even had to fight the marlin :D)

If youre going for a IGFA record then yes it is not fly fishing.  Only IGFA requires that the boat is out of gear when the cast is made. If we all followed those rules when we fished then there would not be much catching. Basically he used a fly rod with a real Fly and presented that fly to the fish. That is fly fishing.
