Yes, putting in a piece of carpet in one piece on the stairs is faster. A properly cascaded (that is what he is doing here) set of stairs looks a lot nicer when done. A lot of these guys who are saying that they need to install fast, do not not know how to do transitions from hard goods to carpet either, they just slam in a piece of metal.
Like most of the other guys. I'll have to vote that it's kinda slow. I'm sure it works perfectly and give a great stretch with little effort. It would be a great tool for shop that hire hourly guys. But us subs that only get paid for what we do, we have to get alot done to earn a decent living. I love the idea, in theory, and if I had a cheap helper I could stick on that thing, it might be great, since newbie installer can't kick steps worth a darn. :) Keep the cool tools coming!

set of closed stairs would be one piece done by the time you do two steps
theres technique to kicking too so dont really kill urself
