I was in a concert of AIC this Tuesday 24th Nov 2009 and I have to say: I miss Layne so much, but this new guy fucking rocks and the whole band is one of the best playing bands in the world. I also try to sing AIC songs and what is the main thing to sing it right, is not to show, how good you are. A singer of a AIC song must be a messenger, not a showman.

Let me tell you, I never believed anyone could ever replace the legendary Lanyn but after seeing and hearing Duvall play I truly had a change of heart.

Not bad, still, its not the same without Layne though. They should just come up with a new name for this group. Also I think a lot of the songs from his solo career are better than some AIC tunes, but I would never say his solo project could touch the mark AIC left on everyones heart and soul. Not bad, still, its not the same without Layne though. They should just come up with a new name for this group. In many ways while everyone misses Layne most also don't know that Cantrell wrote just about all of their songs, or should I say their great ones. Also I think a lot of the songs from his solo career are better than some AIC tunes, but I would never say his solo project could touch the mark AIC left on everyones heart and soul. At least some people like the ones here are still rockin!

I'll tell you what. Layne is 6 years in the ground. A grace period was given. Do you people realize Jerry's life was Alice In Chains? The interview on VH1 in '07 explained a lot. Cantrell said any love or respect the band might recieve now is just tribute to the awesome legacy Layne left behind.He said that about the guy who robbed him of three, maybe four albums worth of prime writing time. Because of goddamn selfish-assed addiction. Cantrell seems to be a genuine good guy.

it wasnt just laynes voice and incredible insights that he brought to the table. it was his personality. the guy was hilarious, and incredibly interesting to watch and listen to. the rest of the band needed him, and they know it. the only other interesting band member to me is sean, i find him hilarious too. cantrel is boring, and the bass guy seems boring too. mike starr was funny but hes gone too.

How can you people wanna see AIC live after the death of Layne? It's not the same. This new singer hasn't had the same experiences as Layne, how the fuck can he sing stuff that Layne wrote? That is no better than stealing someone's identity cause lot of lyrics were written in 1st person singular. If the band now wanna go on without Layne, can't they just change their name and never play old AIC songs again? AIC live in the 21st century is as wrong as it gets. Or instrumental sets perhaps?

Why do supporters of the "new AIC" always make it out like the rest of the band can only play music under the name Alice in Chains? There are other options, ya know. Layne formed Mad Season and made a great album. No Jerry required. Jerry made several poorly-received solo albums and got dropped from his label. He had to run back to AIC to make back the money he lost on Degredation Trip 1&2. Yet, all you hear is how Jerry was the true mastermind behind AIC. Yeah, sure.

Sure, Layne was the focal point of the band, wrote a few of the songs himself and got most of the attention (happens often with lead singers). However, if you check each song's writing credits you'll notice that on almost all of them Cantrell's name appears. He wrote the riffs, the lyrics, and sang lead on some songs. If you're trying to tell me a heroin junkie like Layne did the majority of the composing then you are hogwash on stilts.

Jerry did not get dropped by his label you idiot. He had a double album worth of material for D-Trip and was unhappy with his label's handling of time schedules, song order, other various demands. Jerry's solo albums were most certainly not poorly recieved, either. They werent giant like aic's, but they are damn good; Jerry IS the one who masterminded their sound. You can deny all you want, but if Layne sang to crappy music nobody would know who the fuck he was.

Jerry Cantrell is one of the most talented artists of his time, and so was Layne Staly. While i agree on that about Jerry Cantrell, I disagree with him getting a new singer for AIC. Noone can fill Laynes shoes. Jerry should keep writing music but not under the same band name. AIC is one of the Greatest bands ever to hit the 90s they should be allowed to die and go into legend rather than linger.
