Thank you so much for sharing:)) I am 34 years old smokin:) female and I am getting a double hip replacement in 4 - 6 months. I'm feed up with the pain and will go through anything to get my life back! So many people think that I'm crazy to think that I could get back to the things I love! I say why get new hips and lay about afraid to use them!!! Not this girl!!! Im soooo happy that I see you have gone back to your life:))) girls like u make me look at it as making me a little extra specia
Just curious how are you doing now ? are You able to do things like you did before ? I'm involved in the Martial arts and I'm worried that I may be limited .
@pubsterguy Hi- sorry for the late response... just saw this. - If your in the martial arts and in need of hip replacement- odds are good your already limited in the things you can do. I can no longer put my feet behind my ears or run.. or ride a bike- but I can walk, dance & as long as you honor the range of motion limitations- you will be glad you entailed the surgery. Hope that answer helps out.
@akamissrubytuesday Thanks i got the surgery in april but wondering if I strech out will my body tell me how much s to much or will I do harm inadvertantly and then will it be to late ? Thank you
i couldnt recieve hip resurfacing either. my hips fell apart in peaces when they took it out of the joint. but i got to keep my steel one they took out in a jar. i was going to throw it away but my wife said she paid $50,000 for it both times so she kept it. on the fire place. lol
when i was 23 i had both of mine done due to avascular necrosis of the bone. then in feb of this year the left one had wore out and was loose i awoke one morning and couldnt walk any longer. staph infection had set up in it. and luckely they found it in time and took it out. two months in the hospital from infection. and im finally home. later this year i will try and get another hip put in. if yours get loose and wore out go to the doctor asap. it almost cost my life. godbless.
@39tommyboy - sorry to hear you had to contend with a staph infection ... hope you get a new hip soon... & life becomes easier for you.- perhaps the infection is what caused the hip to go bad.... I was told infections go straight to the prostesis & I will always need to take antibiotics before going to a dentist & do my damndest to stay away from anyone who gets sick.
@akamissrubytuesday yes going to the dentist is important to premed . they usually give me amoxicllion about two hours before any dental work. and after for a couple days. even cleaning youre teeth at the dentist can cause it. but ive been around a lot of sick people in the past 15 years and it seems to be ok. the main thing is to be carefull with cuts and open places on youre body. the left hip was a experimental they put in back then. also watch swelling
@39tommyboy - I've had both my hips for 2 years now... & they seem to be doing just fine.... though- I tend to piss off everyone on the road due to the fact I only drive the speed limit. Clearly most people don't realize some people are driving with fake hips. hhahahahahaha
@akamissrubytuesday yea i understand completely even before my surgery i would tell my legs to do something like hit the brakes and sometimes they did what they wanted to. lol and controlling the gas pedal took practice to. since you have both hips done like mine. try something fun like riding a horse or crossing a fence. they dont go sideways do they?? lol what seemed to have caused yours to go bad?? i must have missed that part of the story. mine was avascular necrosis.
@39tommyboy - I can't ride a horse... or a bike. hahahhaa oh- & Basically I danced my ass off.... years of dance & wrestling wore em out. - your body is like a pair of shoes.... if you never wear them - they just get dusty.... but if you wear them every day- the sole & heel wear out- & eventually you need a new pair.
@39tommyboy i guess the hardest part of my surgery was on the second hip. i awoke during surgery and saw my leg turned around in the air. and they was hammering the hell out of my hip. then i went out again. lol
With your active lifestyle, and you look very young. You should have try go see a good hip resurfacing before choosing total hip replacement. Hip Resurfacing(HR) offers to young people who want to maintain active lifestype such as whatever activities you prefere, run, mud wrestling, skiing, basketball, etc...
@BokatorFighter - I wasn't able to walk or drive for 2 years before the surgery- I was fortunate - I had a fabulous sports orthopedic surgeon- Dr. Andrew Bulczynski - feel free to check out his credentials- & no- I'm no longer able to run- but- I can dance again... & for that I feel very blessed.... & will always be thankful.
Dear Ruby, did you get an anterior or a posterior incision for the replacement? And, did I understand right... you have had double hip replacement and how far apart did you have each procedure? I'm due for a bilateral hip replacement and I'm scared, mainly because of my age. Good luck with you recoop!
@Bruny- This was 2 years ago- - if you need to get it done.... do it!!!! you will be pleased with the results.

@BokatorFighter - Hip Resurfacing was not an option for me... I had NO hip left.
akamissrubytuesday 1 year ago
The key is to go see a GOOD hip resurfacing doctor. There is alot of misinformation if you don't.
