  • Seems to me, you lived your life, like a candle in the wind Mr. Hitler.

  • Elton is so cute ^_^

  • 6:33 onwards = maybe the strangest and most beautiful bit from any of the M&W shows. Elton can do no wrong after that.

  • does anyone else think Elton looks like a liquorice Allsort?

  • does anyone know where I can watch the 1977 christmas show either [ideally] online or otherwise? i don't mind watching in parts either. so if anyone knows, please let me know

  • Why did they call him "Elephant"?

  • Fantastic !!! a time-capsule treasure !!

  • does anyone know the title of this song from EJ?........oh hell - I just read on the left....its Shine on through lol :-o

  • @MrMackem01 Hey, how are you? It seems that you liked "Shine on Through". Well, then you should check the first version of it which came out on an obscure album called 'Elton John The Complete Thom Bell Sessions'. You won´t regret. It´s amazing!

  • does anyone know the title of this song from EJ?

  • In that suit?

  • @xtrmntr109 LOL.

  • No lyp-sycing here! he has more talent in his pinky that any artist now days!

  • how can three people not like this!!! Morecambe and Wise were amazing, and this elton john song is one of his best!!!! luv all three of them

  • you wouldnt get Sir Elton doing anything like this with modern day comedians, top stuff

  • <3

  • lmfao "good job you didn't" classic...

  • Pretty much my favourite elton song. It just happened to be on a CD i found after hearing it on here first. I listend to it all winter. Its inspired me so muchh...

  • How ageist of you to say this people like you do not give older people the credit that they have more stamina and energy than the younger generation. I suppose now you will say that students of an older age have no right to complete their education and I am going to be one of them and I wil be thirty five next month and still have many things want to achieve and have no desire in contemplating retirement. So be careful what you say DrScottie and learn to be more vigilant.

  • I would also like to respond to the comment about Elton retiring , stepping aside and letting the younger generation take control, the man is 63 years old, if this younger generation is bitter, then the old saying go's (dont get bitter get better) if you cant take the heat ! get out of the kitchen ....a man should retire when he is ready to retire, not because people are trying to force him to retire, I since fear ! OOOH God the man is 63 years old and got a hit album.....what are we going to do

  • I would have to agree, the aging process sucks, but he still plays and sings in tune, and the album THE UNION did well on the charts, in part because of Leon Russell I will always be listening to Elton

  • I've only heard 2 songs from E.J.'s new album and, although he'll never match his vintage material, those 2 songs are better by far than anything currently in the charts due to the fact that there are so many people my age(30yrs) and younger who wouldn't know good musical taste if it slapped them in the face. To call for them to retire when they're still producing much better material than modern "artists" shows true stupidity so think again before you call anyone an idiot, 19GirlBad was it?

  • 1977, slightly before my time, but I have to say I could listen to this all day long. What a song, truly classic! It's really depressing to think that every modern artist combined haven't got the talent to compose such a powerful lyric or such a beautiful musical arrangement. We'll never hear anything this good from fresh "talent". There's a challenge for you Usher, Justin Beiber, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga and the rest of you talentless "artists" who keep flooding the airwaves with your cr@p.

  • What a beautiful piano sound too! Another thing old Elty's forgotten about...

  • This is just amazing.

Although I never though the album version sounded anything like this good!

  • Forget the two ronnies, just listen to those fucking heartfelt lyrics guys. Perhaps our most underated songsmith .....

  • These guys were good but not as good as The Two Ronnies in my opinion. I can't really remember laughing out loud at their stuff like I did the Two Ron's. I do remember the sketch where Eric and Ernie were cooking breakfast tho, that was very good!

  • Elton John.....wow!

  • At 4:30, you hear somebody singing the Beatles' "Something."

  • @mariofarecraft2 Yes, and the words are different in one place for some reason?

  • Christmas wasn't Christmas without Eric and Ernie!! Just priceless, irreplaceable! Wonderful memories, thanks for sharing. Happy Christmas!

  • ...when you hear that voice.... it takes you right back...and for a moment you are young again.

  • I just wish we could all go back.... even if just for a bit. Where has time gone?

  • Just amazing. This is perfection.

  • everyone and their budgie watched the Morecombe and Wise Xmas show! I was only 10 that year and I still remember it :oD

  • @mizofan i understand what your saying but his old and doesn't have the voice no more. these todays are shit and will not be remember.

  • @Countdamonie Listen to me idiot. I don't listen to crap music. i listen to the likes of Michael jackson, Elvis Presley, The Clash, Janis Joplin and so many great musicians. Todays musicians are shit. What i'm trying to say that Elton John, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and many more great musicians should retire and their legacy should live om. So stop judging me around asshole cos i know what real music is. DUH!

  • Morecambe & Wise were the first to have stars waiting to be on the show without pay. Since then, we've had 'The Muppets,' Sesame Street' & 'The Simpsons.' But these two were the best! x :o)

  • I was suprised at the time Shine on Through wasn't released as a single in UK, excellent song and performance here. Great new Elton album The Union coming out later this month

  • Even by 1970s standard that suit is Terrifying bet he could hang glide with those lapels "stupid boy" :-)

  • Can't believe it's nearly two years ago i accidently stumbled across this song. Listened to it all winter long. Definatly a favourite :)

  • Blinkin eck! The dads army clip brought it all flooding back.

  • Elton John always and will remain as a legend singer. i just think he ahd his days and should retire just like the others Madonna, Ringo Starr, The Rolling Stones, Sir Paul McCartney and many more. They had their days and should retire. This is me speaking as a 19 years old. Its time for the new generation!

  • The Music you listen to is crap and digital enhanced, which mean's most of the these created artists and groups ie; x factor product will not last the test of time like real talent. And most of the music they sing is of the old school(copied). They will be used by up as long as the lolly comes in then tossed in the dump truck.

    Have a nice day............................!!

  • @19GirlBad But Elton has a brilliant new album! Why should he retire and deprive himself and so many people of new pleasure? Such great artists don't just give up the urge to create and play, Elton lives to perform, you might as well say Shakespeare, Beethoven, Da Vinci and others should have stopped to give younger people a chance. He's not getting in the way of the new generation at all.

  • @mizofan lmaololololololol....i can't believe you just compared elton john to shakespeare, beethoven, and davinci....that's as stupid as comparing justin bieber to elton john

  • @yahoopl3 Of course i was aware of the flattering elite company comparison, but it was about the artistic urge and i'm surprised you've bothered to call it stupid on youtube- there are too many insulters on youtube and not enough positive comments.

  • one of the most watched tv shows of all time in the uk.

  • Many thanks for posting. It's lovely to see footage of the old reception area at TV Centre. TC8 looks a bit grubby though.

  • ~ is it Me or do those 2 trannies look like tom kenn8dy ~

  • lol. the notation.

  • what a classy way to end a festive special

  • Fabulous acting by my hero Elton John! Please how can I download this? I want to keep it. Thanks!

  • I am stunned! This is the best live performance I've ever heard from Elton. I thought for a while that it was a studio recording that he was lip-syncing to. Its amazing how good he sounded without all the noise of a band and background singers. I actually like this performance better than the album version, and that's a first for me!

  • I keep coming back to this one and it's currently my favorite Elton performance EVER...agree with those who say it's even better than the album arrangement with strings and the vocal could not be more achingly perfect. Would love to put this one my iPod...what's the best way?

  • This just MADE my night!! Thanks for posting:)

  • this is absolutely stunning..

  • Gosh, you guys accross the pond are so lucky !! We got lucky for a while with channel 9 in New Jersey, they picked up the BBC for a while. We got to see Benny Hill and Morecambe and Wise Monday thru Friday.I like the English humor but most people didn't like or understand the humor. But I remember at 8 years old enjoying this.RIP Morecambe and Wise and thank you for the great shows and memories.

  • 1977 - Morecambe and Wise Christmas special

    2009 - Shit Christmas special

    nuff said

  • 35 quid and two Luton players

...why that's almost fifty pounds! Lol

(Eric was a Luton fan if I remember?)

  • @77edster I think he was involved in someway with the Luton board, interesting cause Elton was chairman of Watford, Luton's closest rivals I think.

  • @77edster What is a Luton! Is it Football?

  • @77edsterThat is correct,Eric Morecambe was the Director of Luton Town.

  • Why do British people think its so funny when men dress like women? I think its bloody stupid myself.

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever.....

  • I would have to agree that this version is better than the studio release, much more powerful vocal and the simple piano accompaniment is very effective, simplicity at it's best. The album version sounded a bit sterile and layered. One of his most overlooked tracks, but I think his best, the lyrics are so beautiful.

  • i like this one better than the recording

  • Elton plays and sings fantastic blues songs.

  • I remember seeing this first time around!! Man, they were the days when there was actually decent tv at Christmas!

Elton's vocals are immaculate on this!

  • The way Elton walks makes me laugh.

  • mmm..mmmm.. Love that Elton! That voice does it to me every time.. sigh... :-)

  • I love Elephant John!!!!!!

  • Sir Elephant John

  • Poor lil' Elephant... Did anyone notice how quickly he had dried after he fell into the water? Amazing! *lol*

Thanks for uploading it, Chazfem, really had a good laugh.

  • Elephant John hahaha!!!

  • Was that song on "Blue Moves" or what album?"

  • A Single Man

  • @twatwhite i love elton too! he is the sexiest man alive

  • I only find WOMEN sexy

  • @twatwhite i like both :-P

  • @pinkepommes bisexuality: never being disappointed when you reach into somebody's pants.

  • @TheCrazyLutenist coolest thing ever heard abot bisexuality :)

  • Elton before he took himself so seriously - he was funny

  • @CateRen100 he really does come across as a miserable old git thesedays. Very sanctimonious.

  • Nice outfit. xD

  • 1:42 :) my god how sexy he is<3

    so sweet<3

  • oooooh yes!!!!

  • Haha yes! He manages to pull off looking like an innocent little boy the entire time. hes sooooo sexy ;)

  • superb post chazfem....elton...brilliant...but couldnt help listening to the lyrics and thinking about eric morecambe, what a poignant ending to a funny show..tinged with a little sadness.

  • Shine on Through :)

  • this video is fantastiiiiiccccccc and he is so sweet with this suit!!!

    i love hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiim!!!!

  • Fantastic ballad. Too bad it never got a minute of radio play, but back in the disco-infested airways of the mid to late 70's, it's easy to see why this was never a single in the US. It could have climbed the charts anyway, IMO. I like this song better than "Someone Saved My Life Tonight".

  • His performance was fantastic!! I am going to see him live in less than two weeks...I cant wait!!

  • FANTASTIC post!!! Wonderful effort as well to edit everything. Along with "It Ain't Gonna Be Easy" this is my favorite song from "A Single Man." Keep waiting for the band to kick in! LOL! Elton has always been a great sport - wonderfully sly sense of humor - perfect for Morecambe & Wise. Thanks for sharing this!

  • poor Elton, my darling!

He looks so sweet in that suit... And the song is very beautiful...

  • 'Stupid boy'!!'

  • Wow. The video was hilarious, and the performance was.. breathtaking. It made me cry.

  • dunno y but this song reminds me of alll the kids in africa..................

hes a good singer- actually, scratch that, hes the BEST MALE SINGER EVER!!!!

    (over 35! :-D)

  • poor elton

  • Thank you-- Elton's voice was so supple then. This was only a few months after he took voice lessons for the very first time with Thom Bell. It's interesting that he sang Shine on Through like he would on Single Man, rather than the funkier Thom Bell style that he had just done a few months before. This ballad seems to close out his youthful classic period of his career, as he has had ups and downs since then-- though I would say his last decade has been very good, if very underrated.

  • Thanks Chazfem for an awesome job.Great editing job.

  • Shine On Through is a one of his underated songs. It was off "The Tom Bell Sessions".

  • also from "A Single Man":)

  • what is the name of that song

  • Every Christmas Morcambe-Wise those were the days.

    Rip Gents

  • Thank you!!! thank you.... i love Elton, great, beautiful song :)

  • did you just watch the video? it was a great performance and stillfunney, who cares if he got a sore throat, comment on the vid not his whole lifestyle, good grief, oh save us from "experts"

  • still funny and a great song, nice one.

  • Though no fault of his own (it happens with age) Elton can't do this anymore....but at least we have a ton of footage from Elton's prime.

  • I"m not so sure about that. Elton smoked a huge amount of pot and damaged his throat, then had to have his vocal cords operated on...ever since then his voice has been dminished and he hasn't been able to hit the high notes

  • Cocaine is very hard on the throat, as well.

  • I love elton. He lost his voice in 1980. It's not age, its drugs and drinking and sheer lazyness. But I buy his crap anyway because i lovce elton. even tho he has sucked since 1980 (i.e. Empty Voice Box Hey Froggy Froggy) compare tyhat with EGO.

  • Thank You ... brought back good memories :-)

  • but the opening is from the 78 christmas show when they were at thames !!!

  • 4:21 AHHHHHHH! (Sploosh!)

  • magical moment when he hit the water ;)

  • Wow. A great funny man (Even if un intentional hehe) and the song is beautiful :)

  • Definitely better quality than I had put up on mine. (No fault of mine - originally on vhs tape) Thanks for the post of the full song

  • Morecambe + Wise, Capt Mainwaring, and Elton; national treasures! Happy memories, thanks for putting this on. And a ballad that should be better known. I liked it at the time and it stands up still.

  • LOLLLL!!!! So so so funny!!!

  • Thank you very much!!!! I had never seen the full version!

  • his voice in this song is beautiful and the show is very funny.

    *****Sydney*****

  • Thank you for posting. I remember watching this when I was a boy !!

One of Elton's finest tracks ever.

  • This is absolutely incredible!!! Elton is the BEST!!! :)

  • This is amazing =D!! Thanks a lot for posting!

  • Excellent video, Great picture quality to. Thats the first time I have ever seen Elton with more hair than me. Thanks for posting.

  • History may rank this as one of the top twenty EJ melodies ever. One of the rarer EJ songs that really amazes, and he gives an absolutely stellar performance here. I lived in England when this aired and missed it. thank you for posting this incredibly high quality video!

  • Really excellent and very high quality post! Thank you!

  • this is absolutely awesome, thanks for posting!

  • 4:18 His smile!

  • lol,the one from the year before is funny too but i like "Shine on Through" at the end

  • I love it! Thanks for posting.
