this is like another one of those songs that would just totally fit if u were murdering someone.. well torturing. the other one is no more running by animal collective :P
Marla was Ed Droste's great aunt. She was an aspiring songwriter, her career went nowhere, and she eventually drank herself to death. She wrote this song.
I love how every Grizzly Bear song is distinct, you could never say that their songs all sound the same, yet they have this wonderfully unified style meaning that you could always tell if a song is a grizzly bear song.
I have heard Local Natives described as a west coast counterpart to Grizzly Bear, but almost every song Ive heard by Local Natives kind of sounds the same. It just goes to show that grizzly bear has a talent for writing hooks that stick out in your mind.
I can't stop thinking of Dexter when listening to this song either! Actually I just searched on youtube for it to see if I was the only person thinking about that!
It's like a Danny elfman song. Ye Know Nightmare Before Christmas-y?

This song is soooo creepy, it reminds me of the twisted theme from the TV show Dexter and whimsical nature of a nursery rhyme
