  • just when you think you've seen it all..... a 1 blade no tail helicopter... I swear..if I live to be 100.

  • or just spend 60 dollars.and get a blade scout.....looks about as good performance wise. What a way to ruin a perfectly GREAT heli!

  • @SuperFunHobby There's nothing ruined..It's just an experiment...besides Literally $17 will put this heli back to stock...This man is a professional at this trade...watch his other Vids, maybe you'll agree

  • Dave you are a genius! i admire your creativity!

  • I love this heli, but it's so hard to fly, you've done very good job of taming it with your mod.not sure i'm ready for this radical make over just yet. great vid though

  • Good video, just to much fading.

  • Looks like those dogs with wheel chair! There are parts missing but they can handle it very well! Nice video!

  • So your mCPX was too difficult to fly 3D so you proceeded to chop half of it off to not fly it 3d?

Lesson learned here - This is what awaits me after 50 years flying: the inability to remember the purpose of the idle-up switch.

  • I can relate on the pitch rods coming off it happens a lot on mine from crashing or wear, but I have never had one break. My mods are a thicker and longer tail boom, rubber bushings on the swash, a screw all the way through the head & main shaft and hex screws with nuts on the grips. It's amazing you were able to modify it like that and fly it but then where is the fun of flying it like it's meant to be? Anyway, nice work your obviously a smart guy but I think I will keep mine fast and stable!

  • oh and by the way i like your reviews the best. so well done and easy to watch and understand

  • damage possibly by the wind? mine will not stay in the air in any small breeze.

  • and also the pitchrods wear out mine have hardly ever have broke

  • isee guys fliping these things inverted all day long

  • how are you controlling yaw?

  • You are a f***ing genius Mr Herbert !

  • 1 main rotor blade....and no tail motor.......it's awesome! Once again.....nice video Mr. Herbert

  • What u say about a heli haveing problems 1 outta 10 flights is toatally true.....10th flight on my trex 250..never crashed never touched blades on ground..checked everything after every flight..it Exploded on spool up ... Time to dust off my planes while i wait for parts lol

  • @tylerduren666able:

Shut up And deal with your erectile disfunction. when you earn a physics degree too, maybe you will read my comment right. deal with your own fucking life.

  • I couldn't believe what I was seeing! Awesome!

  • Are you kidding me? you are THE WORST stock 3d helicopter flyer I have ever seen in my life! If it's too hard for you to see( & therefor fly) Give It to someone ( Maybe your grandson or something...) Who could actually use it for something instead of chopping it into crap and trying to fly.

  • @chingchangchong1114

    I bet your good.

  • I like it. Your having fun and I get the benefits of your knowledge. I thank you.

  • Nice work Dave. Happy new year to you and family. Dave who make that head-mounted

Camera?. Is the what you use to make your

    Helic videos?.

    Thank you

  • Watched the whole video, I'm very impressed by your knowledge and experiments. It's simple to understand why a counter-balance works to make a single-bladed heli, and more people have been doing it these days, but I'm totally mind-boggled about how that heli is flying without a rail rotor, that's something I haven't seen others do. You really take the unthinkable a step further than anyone else I've seen. Really though, how can a single-rotor heli maintain it's heading hold without a tail rotor?

  • I too am confused. Its pretty impressive that you made mods this extensive and got it to continue flying. But what is the point of making these mods?

  • I'm sorry but I don't see the point? Why wouldn't you want a regular heli that has rudder control? The real ones have tail rotors.

  • This really reminds me of the old Kyosho Hyperfly. Lol

Curious tho. With NOTAR, how do you control yaw? Or do you?

I just started in helis not long ago. Started on a Blade CX, hopped to a 120 SR with no trouble at all, going Mini Titan soon. Woot.

  • You should call it Das UglyBlade. If its fun who cares.

  • Did you have to increase the pitch of the blade? I tried with my mcpx (it's a lot of fun!!) but it only gets off a few inches.

  • My apologies for the ignorance, but how does this not spin out of control without a tail rotor? I'm sure you've been asked this before but I couldn't find where.

  • Thanks for the video. Pretty cool little mods you have going on there.

But touting that yours is the only one like it is just as bad, if not worse, from an egotistical standpoint, as those guys going out and buying products as they hit the shelves, just to get an early review up.

  • Great Video, I follow lots of your video's as you have such good ideas, keep it up.

  • reminds me of the hyperfly lol, micro hyperfly haha, as always, good job! :)

  • Thankyou a thousand times I'm very happy to have found your channel. I'm 35 yrs and brand new in the heli rc world and truley value your experience. There are so many you tube channeIs that are filled with promo hype.Glad to see you are not. I dont want to bother you to much with a bunch of questions but If you can recomend a heli thats in the $100-$200 hundred range thats fully set up with good parts suport and a good heli rc forum as well, I will be greatly apreciative. Thankyou, George

  • @aronisink1 I'm thinking mcpx...

  • @aronisink1 I'm no expert, at all but I was also interested in a good solid heli that was going to have easily accessible parts, made for beginners, and able to take some crashes. The Honey bee V2 kept coming up! it comes with a flight sim, its made for beginners (says so on the box) and its 4-ch meaning its not easy to fly but your won't get bored with it like you would with a 3-ch its well within your price range but from what I have read you should stock up on parts.

  • @aronisink1 Try the Blade mcx 2 or the Blade 120 SR - before the mCPx This heli (mCPx) isn't for beginners...good luck

  • Thumbs up just because your different!

  • Becareful not to wake up the old folks next door!

  • Sorry to sound a bit negative in this thread. I am just wondering what the point is of buying a 3D helicopter and turning into something that you can do with a 2 channel? Sorry but if I am going to shell out the money for a 3D heli I want to fly 3D. If I wanted to fly one like you do I would buy a cheaper helicopter. I do own a Blade mCPx.

  • Awesome video. Love your projects and experiments!

  • Dave, you are amazing! I wish I could have the chance to fly with you. I'm still a novice, been flying for about a year now, but I love my mCPX. I can't wait for Horizon to put out a brushless model. I know I can do it myself but buying it BNF is much easier.

Can't wait for warmer weather so I can fly my Blade 450, which is an awsome heli.

In all honesty you are the one who taught me how to fly a CP heli just from watching your vids. The training stand helped my a great deal. Thanks again.

  • Crazy mod dave, hey i,m stuck as to what mcpx size heli to buy.Walkera has a couple belt drive tails i was thinking of buying not sure if my DX6i will bind to them.

  • Oh. I think I get it. Foward flight only holds a heading via tail plate. Hmmm. not sure id want to lose rudder control, but still cool

  • Like all you rvideos, this is great. Can you PLEASE explain the science how this heli can yaw with no rudder????

  • as always good info and makes you wonder about what is essential for a machine to fly! Thanks Dave.

  • Dave, the mCPx can fly great inverted using the stockversion. Its just the tailexpo has to be set to 125% on the DX6i, you can get an extended tailboom but you dont need it.

Collective management is very tricky on this little machine, thats why you have to be gentle using pos and neg-pitch when trying to do a flip or hover inverted.

It's using a software based FBL-system and sometimes it doesnt react like it should according to experience.

But it's a dream to fly when you master it,

  • Removing the tailfin will also help with the ruddercontrols

  • Looking forward to seeing the stunt video. i have an axe cp with a bad 3n1 board, been thinking of converting it to no tail like this but was not sure if it could be done on a cp heli or not. now i know it can.

  • Great video! I really appreciate all the information you put out there. I'm fairly new to this, and don't understand how your birds fly (steer) with no tail rotor. I get that the gyro should hold the heading, but how do you steer without rudder control?

  • dave when are you gonna do this with a coaxial heli? :)

  • You are the calmest pilot. Your videos are unmatched, and we appreciate how you share your know-how and finesse with us. I work a twelve hour shift through the night, so my practice time is limited. Currently enjoying a Blade 400 and T Rex 100 (I am so glad the T Rex 100 doesn't throw pitch rods, just batteries.....which I painted, also!), Thanks again for your input here.

  • Awesome!

I wouldnt have thought it would fly that well after those modifications, but you made it work well :)

Could you tell us something about the camera you use strapped to your head?

I've been trying to figure out how to film while being alone in the field, and it seems you have a good solution for it!

  • You do not really need to increase the length of the tail boom, the new tail blades they are selling really does help the 'blow outs' the tail was having.

  • got mine for father's day and has been sitting on the shelf waiting for boom tail to be in stock

  • WOW! That was truly amazing. I would never have thought that could be done. Very cool. Thank you sir, for sharing this video. :)

  • Happy flying Mr. Herbert!!

  • Very impressive! Looks like a LOT of fun too! Great job, Dave.

  • Like the mods you made on the heli and seems to fly just as well .just goes to show that you dont need two blades to make a heli fly ...

  • Your cool dude.

I bet you grand children love you very much.

  • Just so you know, I had the same problem when I got the MCPx. I later found out that I was using too much pitch when flipping and made the head speed slow down to a point where the tail couldn't react fast enough to counter the slowing head speed. I learned that I just had to conserve my head speed while doing 3d.

  • Hey man good to see you are still going strong withthat brain of yours! Thanks for the great clipsssss

  • Here comes NightFlyyer. HIDE YOUR HELIS!!

  • ive found that im pretty good at performing the wall smasher trick all the time lol

  • just one question, doesn't it defeat the purpose of the mcpx to take the tail rotor off because you cant fly 3d but are you saying then that its more fun to fly modded than like an msr or an mcx?

  • i know how you feel i flew an mcpx the other day and i have amazing vision and when it got about 10 or 15 feet away and i was losing orientation

  • You never cease to amaze me, Dave. ;) If you can tame a tail rotor-less and single bladed mCP X, nearly anything can be done.

  • still dont understand how it dont spin in circles with out a tail rotor!! awesome as always

  • Great video. I really enjoyed watching. And all the comments I've read are all positive. Great job, Mr. Herbert.

    ~Jeff

  • @Winston51249 Thanks Jeff. You have always been a great supporter and friend.

  • Like i said 3 years ago on you tube, you are my Idol and a legend in your kind. I wish I had your knowledge and know how. I check daily to get schooled in rc by you! but here is the upgrades i bought the other day and let me tell you it makes a ton of difference 3d is still not gonna happen yet i mite try no tail mod like u did.

    ~Alex Palmer~ ~941 Sarasota Florida~

  • @LordBongSnipa69 You are very kind. I surely appreciate your comments. Happy Flying, ~NightFlyyer~

  • @NightFlyyer hi can i do this with my nous 125 cp mini

  • you are bored out of your mind, 50 yeasr of flying heli lead to this hehehe.. kidding herbert nice video!!

  • And please do a homemade ducted fan helicopter, can it be done? Are you up for that challange?

  • Very nice work Dave, I enjoy all the helpfull videos. Would you ever consider doing a review on a Electrifly Super sporster by Greatplanes? There are a few out there but they just dont seem to get down to the nitty gritty stuff like you do. Thanks -Garret.

  • @garretpfeiffer Thanks very kindly. If I buy one, I will do a review.

  • @NightFlyyer

Dude, i didnt know you bought one. I posted a question about your findings on this little miracle although i know you're a busy bee. Never stop, your soldering techniques-video was helpful to the max.

Thanks for sharing your experience and common sense.

  • I have a feeling the next crazy proj is a single blade duct fan

  • A true professional! I really appreciate your informative videos. Thanks.

  • Sir, you have my utmost respect, the sincerity and straightforwardness of your videos is a refreshing breath, in a world so full of BS

  • this is how you fly this helli

  • hey just to let you know once you get inverted its not to bad

the issue is if you try to jam the collective you will bog the main and tail blows out

the best way to get it inverted is do use a 1/2 roll or 1/2 loop

  • very very cool! always amazed with your videos and ingenuity

  • great vid!! i thought you were joking when you did the mods, haha

  • lol did u have to do test runs in a cemetary?!?!?! Youll be haunted for weeks for that lmao

  • @MetallicaTime They protect my aircraft and it is quiet...

  • Undeniably outstanding, Mr. Herbert!

    ;-)

  • @nishbrown Thanks very kindly.

  • Wow thats amazing great mods lol looks like it had better control with no tail rotor

  • Hi Big Brother... glad you didn't crash into one of those headstones in the cemetery. May have gotten a rise out of some poor dead soul! Hehe!

  • @bearinstincts Hey, Sis. They all love it and protect my experimental planes and helis, especially Ike and Louise, there in the front row. Haha.

  • ever heard of hobbyking. its great. u should try it!!!!!

  • @SuperMillerman10 Your joking, I'm sure. Got all my orange receivers from them. Check my vids.

  • long time glad to enjoy your video

  • @LTF85199 I appreciate your long time support too. Thank kindly for your comments. ~NightFlyyer~

  • i dont know if you heard but '' tntneon '' has done some amazing things with his mcpx

    the longer tail

    brushless

    all aluminum

he now calls it the mcpx bl

its amazing check him out if you havent

  • Thanks so much from someone(Dave) that I consider nothing less than an RC GURU! I always learn from you and your videos so to me, that's nothing but a good thing! No matter what, you're an awesome teacher for sure!!

  • @dansterwerecool Haha. Well we must make our own future, and who knows...Thanks.

  • i always wonder when your going to make another video because their always so good im sorry about the vision problems.

  • @davidsrcs You are very kind. Thanks very much.
