  • man how did you get acess to film in Penn Station hell everytime I go in there on a private railcar and get out my camra to film like this or take pictures I allways seem to get busted like a common crimenal hell I am just a photographer

  • I love ALP-44's! And I like AEM-7's too. I'm guessing that that 4402 is NJCL train 3514.

I'll admit the station platforms can use a good deal of fixing up. When I get a little older I hope to be a transportation architect / solution engineer / designer that works with things like redesigning train stations and public places like that.

  • The platforms aren't the biggest problem. It's the station itself. People get packed like sardines when an announcement is called to board a train. Penn Station is the busiest transit center in the U.S. It serves more passengers in a single day than all 3 of the NY airports combined. I personally think it's time to redo the whole thing. There's already a plan to add more tunnel tracks, but I think we need to move operations to Grand Central where there's more room. Yeah, too expensive I know.

  • And this is where Moynihan Station comes in. Moynihan Station is an expansion of PSNY in which the Farley Post Office building is used as a new entrance to the station, complete with a huge new waiting room with a glass roof to the sky. The trains, too, will be open to the skylight too just like the original Penn Station NY that NYC should have kept. Google search "Moynihan Station" and you (or anyone reading this) will see what I'm saying. And they should redo the whole thing.

  • I'm sure many other fellow railfans along the NEC know that.

  • Oh I know about this plan. The problem is where's the progress and is anybody going to actually DO ANYTHING? It's the same story with the WTC and their Freedom Tower plans. The towers were supposed to be taller than any of the surrounding buildings THIS YEAR! Instead we're still looking at the sad hole in the ground. There's a lot of talk and not much action, which I believe we need now considering that New York is expected to grow in population in the coming years.

  • I think it SHOULD be built and people of the metro area should get their heads in the game and start speaking up about it too. I btw was sure you knew a lot about it, so do very many NEC-area railfans. I think people SHOULD stop being lazy, so we have got to speak up to help the at-the-limit infrastructure, for great benefit of people of the NYC Metro Area.

  • @murjax Grand Central should probably close and all operations would be ceased at NY Penn Station. NY Penn Station should get about 40 tracks for Amtrak, Metro North, LIRR, NJT and many other long distance and commuter trains.

  • If I had my way it would go the other way around. GCT just has more room! In reality what I think needs to be done is more underground expansion like NJT is doing. NJT is basically going to get their own station next door, but that won't help Amtrak or LIRR. More the half the crowds come from the subway and the LIRR. They need to be relieved more.

  • Nice stuff. Im curious that you werent stopped or hassled by Amtrak police or the Armed Guards with there machine guns? They have been in full force the past few weeks. Im an Amtrak engineer and even I got hassled by them.HAHAHA

  • hey, can i be an engineer for a summer job?

  • what happened?
