Hi everyone I have a house that was built in the 20s and there is a lot of lead paint on the wood trim, doors, and windows that I would like to have stripped. Using the proper mask and a paint stripper like this, would it be safe to do myself? thanks!
I've been shopping these heaters and their tools for a while now. I finally broke down and bought the heater kit. I also got a couple of their scraper tools for Christmas. Let me just say that this is absolutely the best way to strip paint. I will never use anything else. They are absolutely amazing and the scrapers are top notch. Very easy to use, not messy and very effective.
Remember the old quartz heaters that were around for a few years? Same heating element. You can make one for a 10th of the price of what these things cost.
I picked one up at speedheaterstore.dom a couple of years ago. Completely redid the exterior of my house. Could not have been better. Only thing… get the arm to hold the unit and relieve the arm strain.
Works really well, but I've had problems with the infrared bulbs. 2 were defective after working a short time. The other original bulb broke/burned out after much less than 5000 hours. I think in reality, the bulbs are much more fragile than you might think. The defective bulbs were replaced free.
You should really take the time to read up on the tech before posting.
It uses Infrared heat so yes, you need to hold it in place for ~30-40 seconds BUT it only heats up to between 500-600 degrees which is well below the flash point of wood and also the temperature at which you vaporize lead pain, which is exactly what would happen with a gas burner.
At $400 its not a bad price considering you don't need a mask, there's no cleanup on messy chemicals and its got 5000 hours of bulb life.
Best paint stripping tool in the world. Bought one last year and I will never use anything else. Ever.

Absolutely you can do it yourself! Read up on lead-safe work practices and search for speedheater.

what a lot of messing around.
and I bet that system would be expensive.
Ive seen them in operation you have sped the film up to accelerate the process , which take slonger.
A gas burner with an assistant is way quicker.
