I like to play the D major as a Dsus2. It's the same chord but you simply play the high E string open. I think that sounds closer to the song's sound.

I could be wrong, but I checked around and many of the popular tabs have the D chord with the open E string too. I learned to play guitar from Marty, from my very first strum. String names, you name it. And that began about 12 months ago, after I retired, and decided to take up the guitar. I don't think I would have ever made the decision to do that if there was no such thing as the internet. Just wanted to try and learn new things (all the time) to ward off any and all "oldtimers" diseases. Plus, I'm having a blast with it, even when it seems frustrating at times, it's a good frustration. :D)
