Hello there! :) I was checking out your page again & see you're from Chicago & we were born in the same hospital! WESSSIIIIDDDEEE!!! (origin..been in the west 'burbs over 25 years:) I'm 38 & I thank you for making this video..."somebody has to do it"! :) xoxoxo :) <3
U love the snake dance, don't ya?! I didn't realize that you were born in the Chi! Not to mention, I had no idea that you were in your 30s! You really got it together, girl!
havent seen part 2 yet and I am laughing like crazy (at part 2 previews). I am not going to lie I am afraid of 30, but only because I am not where I want to be!!! (like you ppl think I am still 18!!!) anyhow, I am going to watch part 2 now!!! loll
yes thats what i meant :)........people always ask if im 18 lol...feels good to hear that sometimes i feel old my friends like to joke around and call me old lol
Thanks for this series! I'm 23, i'll be 24 Sept. 29 (yay Libras lol) and I'm pretty bad with money. Not horrible because my mom is ridiculously good with her money like a machine (capricorn), but I'm a little more laid back and get lazy. But being in med school, and owning a car, I find I still want to buy cute things and look stylish and I really need to learn to give and take. Right now I'm paying off my credit cards, figured thats a start LOL
Man at 33 you are more toned than THIS 18 year old smh you are my new fitness inspiration. Also i'm starting school this fall in the persuit of two degrees *Entrepreneurship & Finance* These videos are SO helpful. Thank you so much.
you are absolutely sexy and beautiful....it would be nice if all women kept in shape at 30....im glad i still look young for 26 and hope i still look like this at 30 lol :)
hey kimmay...i stumbled across your videos a few days ago and i immediately subscribed! i love that you talking about this, i just wish that someone would have educated me years ago about this subject. i am 32 and just now seeing the light and everything is making sense to me and i have taken steps to start incorporating what i know now into my life and not feeling sorry for myself for the past mistakes i have made. keep doing what you are doing and i really commend you for a job well done!
I'm 23, married with a child, my husband and I are doing fairly well for ourselves..but we're JUST learning how to manage our money..because like you said..neither of us learned from our parents
I thank God sooo much for you being somebody kind enough to take YOUR time and share what you've learned with others (myself included). It's interesting because I will be 23 next Sept. and I believe this is something to help and encourage me to have a more successful year in 2010!!!!! Thanks once again : )
I don't know if you've mentioned this in any of your videos in the series but the book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" speaks a lot on financial goals. It's a great book.
Amen Kimmay!! I had to learn the hard way by putting myself in a deep whole and clawing my way out and trying like *&^% trying not to fall back in. Thanks for sharing this very very important info.
Maybe you should do a segment on all things that require being an adult: like renting an apartment, buying a car, how to build credit, and the list could go on and on.
a lot of parents want their kids to move out at 18 but a lot of them don't prepare them financially . . . great vid btw!
i would tell my self to stop being a child. And ask for help!. I have always been good with money. But in college I should have looked for more free money. When I went back, I went for free.
I'm 25 and I am being sued by bank of america for a defaulted credit card I got when I was 18. I have all these student loans. Will I ever get from under this debt, seems like I am swimming in it:(
you didnt spend not a dime on yourself? didnt treat yourself? girl i couldnt do it, i would die, literally die.
i'm pretty good with managing my money but because of unforseen circumstances that came up last month, it has really put me behind. So i'm struggling to get it all back together. By January I should be fine but its gonna be a rough December.
But come january I need to open a savings account, which for some reason i dont trust banks but we'll see. I'll be frugal like you. I'm 22
i appreciate this so much!!! I am 21 and I felt like I had my credit under control but now i feel like everything is crashing:( i wish more people would make an effortv to educate young people on issues like this instead of us having to leanr thru trial and error. thanks so MUCH. BE BLESSED
Thanks 4 the tour. This vid is great I am 31 and no stranger to hard work from an early age because i knew my mom did not have the money to send me to college. This type of mind set has helped recently when i was laidoff for 9 months, I was ok b/c my husband was still employed, and I was able to fall back on my savings account and unemployment to help pay bills. Thanks again for sharing.
I think you ROCK lady!! The info u share is always on point and in a manner that everyone has to remain open to get ur pt. I just entered my thirties & enjoy the fact that I finally may be getting a better understanding on life and how to embrace it. In my late 20's I was introduced to Dave Ramsey and within the next 6 months I will be debt FREE!! I am very happy because I am learning to be a master of my $ instead of it ruling me. Keep up the good work. Nice home :)
happy birthday!!!! i love the video and the advice. had my taught me about money, i don't think i would have made so many financial blunders in my life! keep up the great work! btw, i love your original music!!!
Happy Birthday...love this video! Wish I could've known about the importance of finances at an early age before destorying my credit. Keep up with the great videos...hope to learn something new from your financial story!
This is a great service you are doing! Thank you so much. No one explained this stuff to me and I am reaping the consequences at 28. Your home is beautiful. No matter the age, it is never too late to you get your priorities in order. Look forward to the series...
I know you are so proud of yourself.... go ahead and pat yourself on the back. Your world is beautiful, and great house thanks for sharing, can i see the rest of it! im always watching HGTV.
I'm 42 and married, I love my 40's....I have more of a sense of who Iam at this age then I did at 20. We worked hard to get our credit straight before we bought our home in 04...so, my advice is.....be careful with those credit cards and try to keep your credit in good shape.
can't wait to check out part 2...about to click on it soon...just want to say love your vids and i an def tell that i need to be watching this..i'm 22 y.o. and need to get better about saving, etc..thanks for sharing your story...
I'm 21 right now and my birthday is in May. Thank you so much for opening up my eyes! Your house is SOOO beautiful! Wow! That's how i want my house to look like =) Im about to shred my credit card up in a few minutes. Thanks again! I love how clear the quality of the video looks. And i also love how you talk...very easy to understand. Thanks.
I agree.if you get your finances together anything's possible. If you check my utube video (yard day) you'll see my home. My husband and I worked so hard for our home, and luckily i'm not affected by the resession. i'm selling my home to move back to fl.. I've reached my goal.. I'm going to own my next home out right cash, deed and all..I love this video because i try to tell anyone would listen to own a home, save money, get yourself together..and the rest will come..
Great vid! Thanks for being such a blessing to your viewers. I am sure this helps many! I had to learn finances on my own too...not an easy rode but I am already teaching my chidren about money now. We want them to be debt free!
you have great videos...i can't wait for part 2. I need some help...every time I get paid I feel like I need to go shopping or buy someone something, and food! You wouldn't believe what I spend on food!
My advice to my 23 year old me. Shadow a person in th the profession you want to enter to see if it's for you. I would have saved saved saved, invested invested invested.
ooo Kimmay!! it feels so good to see and eldest sister (i don't know If we write this word like that! sorry!) sharing some advices with us!!!
but I have the chance to have parents that teaches us early how important the value of money is!! so!! we know that we don't have to spend it just like that!!! and I have a part time job!! but it is to pay my appartement !! since I am living by myself since 2years!! (by the way I am 20!!)
ok, just finished the whole vid. i often say that black parents/peers need to discuss finances more, instead of treating them like secrets that can be used against them. this is how we generate best practices among social networks. ;) glad u did the vid. p.s. i'm guessing you went to Jones in H.S. ...?
My advice to my 23 year old me... (or 21 year old me) don't co-sign NOTHING...save all your little money ( I worked at Sears in high school and work study in college), stay at home as long as the parents will allow and save.
my parents definatly don't talk about money, maybe coz they don't set the best example. despite my mum earning quite a bit of money, they are always overdrawn, owe money on the credit card and have a house that needs updating in many areas before things just completely break down (my sis won't even bring friends over she's that embarrassed of the place).
we also never go on holiday although my friends who's familys earn significantly less than mine go on holidays to main land europe almost every year. my dad always says we need to do this + buy that but they never do. It's probably coz they give so much to church and charity and relatives, but do they have to give so much the immediate family suffer? (ok suffer is a bit extreme but you get what i mean)
KIMMIE!! Happy Birthday fellow Chicagoan! I should have recognized the Chicago Chic classiness! i am 30 (as of July) and yes, it is the first time since age 23 that i have told ppl my real age. i LOVE being 30! work it lady! =D
I totally agree with you. How can we learn if we others older and more knowledge don't pass on what they've learned in life. Thanks for passing on the knowledge.
You are right. Somone snatched me up at 25. That was many moons ago. My Mom has never been in debt ever. My Dad was. Not my Mom. I had my first bank account at 8 years old.
happy belated bday,,im soo happy you are doing this series,,im 22 about to be 23 on the 23rd and i need some inspiration,,and ur right alot of people around my age dont have anyone to teach us or them how to manage money
Thanks for sharing kimmay! I'm 23 and in grad school. I sometimes forget that I will have to pay all of the money I am borrowing back plus interest in the future. I think good financial practices and living minimally now will help make that 'less painful' lol! I appreciate your vid.
Shout out to 1976 babies!!!!! Ahhhh...we rule. Year of the Dragon baby! The fearless ones...lol,lol Happy Birthday..you look GREAT! Yes, I am embracing my 30's. I feel more confident than ever. My 20's were too insecure.
Happy Birthday! We're both 1976ers! Have to admit, I sort of suspected it. It takes a child of the 80's to know one. Welcome to 33!! Hope it's the best year yet. Great vid!
I am also about to turn 33. It has made me start to think a lot about my life up until now. I am looking forward to many more wonderful years and growing older gracefully. Happy Birthday love your videos!
Hi Kimmay, happy birthday!!! I always say that i can't wait to be 30 because in that phase, you have reached some goals in live and you will be in more steady water, or at least that is what i hope ;-) Can't wait for part 2! ;-)
Happy Belated 21st B-day, Kimmay! Age is really just a number. Great vid. Can't wait for the next one!! I can't beleive I am 39 I feel no different than when I was 29 though. TICK, TOCK, TICK, TOCK LOL.
This is a great video series since your on the financial topic can you do a video on how to save when your living pay check to pay check i think that's info alot of people need including myself
I think this subject is taboo for alot of families..the only things I can remember being told by a family friend was to max out my 401k...did I listen...NOT in the beginning...I graduated college and started making 6 figures and had no idea how to handle it...I have had my share of pitfalls and mistakes...but over time have realized the whats/hows/whys financial freedom is a MUST!!! (I love Dave Ramsey)....Love your vibe and keep up the great work!!!
Happy Birthday! You look fab as always. Thank you for talking about this because there are things that I am learning while still in University. Saving is definitely key and proper money management.
I can sense that this will be an excellent series. I recently turned 39 and this the basics of financial wellness would have done me a world of good. We must pass this knowledge to the younger generation. Kudos to you for doing so. We must all do our part.
Wow, you really hit on something!!! Actually, my folks did talk to me about finances. Mainly about saving, but I didn't listen. I finally started listening and actually saving around my junior year in college. After saving for about 3 years I finally had enough to buy my first house. But, when I look back and think man, if I would've started saving when they told me too, I would've had enough to buy furniture at the time too! lol!
I am so happy you did this video. My husband and I are in our 20s (I am 23 and he is 24) and we talk about finances and educate ourselves so we can be financially sound. Knowledge is power and it is a blessing to have ppl like you that will help others and provide valuable tips on financial managment. This is a must!
Kimmay, this is very nice of you 2 take the time out to teach us about finances, very kool, Thank u so much, very nice house btw, I would love 2 c ur wedding pic's I bet u were sooo cute like a little girl. Thank you.
Can't wait for part 2. My mom and I were talking the other day about how people win millions in the the lottery still end up broke. I told her they were never taught how to handle their money and basically just had more to mess up. I've been "underemployed" for a little over a year and had my mom not taught me about money early on, I'm sure I would have lost everything by now so I truly know the power of saving and spending wisely. Great video as always.
Happy B-Day fellow sag, I just turned 28 a few days ago. So maybe you're talking to me :)
I hope you don't mind, I have a BBA in finance and manage money farely well so a few things popped into my mind. Perhaps you'll include a segment on reading and understanding every doc before signing. That one got me a few times back in college and hs :)
Oh yeah, and lending money to others, not just on borrowing. Being the "collector" is no fun when it's friends and fam.
That dress it gorgeous! It's great that you're giving financial advice from your own personal experiences, I'm sure it will help a lot of people. God Bless you! :o)
Wonderful video Kimmay!!! I understand the pride you have in your home. I am the proud owner of a circa 1870 queen anne victorian house with 15 rooms. It was cut up into 4 one bedroom apartments and I restored it back to a single family house.
I am glad you are talkign about personal finances. People of all ages need to listen up.
Thanks for sharing your story, im currently in college and am learning about managing my finances all on my own. Your advice is very helpful, I can relate
Thank you for sharing your experince! I'm 20 and I'm having some of the same problems you where having I definitely look forward to your next video and the tips you offer
I concur because few of us were taught financial literacy at a young age. I can reminisce back around 10 years old when my momma show me my father's bank account. At 12, I fraud my mother's signature just to open a basic savings account.
Now, I'm a investor....talk about a long way from my initial deposit of $5 when I was 12. LOL Otherwise, thanks for airing this video because we all need to reflect on are financial responsibilities.
Your Amazing! This couldn't have come at a better time. I just turned 18 in August & I'm soo ready to move out! lol But I just don't know how to go about it & the rent in NY is RIDICULOUS!
I'm glad you've decided to do this series because a lot of us need guidance in this area and don't even know where to begin looking.
Wow! I can't believe you were getting paid $5.00 an hour in '94 while I was getting paid $5.50 in 2003. You'd think minimum wage would have increased more than that in almost ten years. Definitely looking forward to part 2 and the rest of the series!
This is awesome!! haha! I'm 23 and right now I'm at the "walking into the real world" within the next year sooo I'm excited to see what you have to tell us :)
This is a fantastic series! I was lucky enough to have learned a lot about money management from my mom the accountant before i moved out and she's still teaching me but I love the fact that you used yourself as a real example. I will most certainly be watching. Oh and you and that dress honey hush! What I wouldn't give for those legs! Thanks for this much needed series!
i am 25 and already in a financial hole between those predatory credit cards in high school and college loans. its so depressing. i was never really taught anything about finances but i hope to finally gain financial freedom in the future

This is a great service you are doing! Thank you so much. No one explained this stuff to me and I am reaping the consequences at 28. Your home is beautiful. No matter the age, it is never too late to you get your priorities in order. Look forward to the series...

I'm 42 and married, I love my 40's....I have more of a sense of who Iam at this age then I did at 20. We worked hard to get our credit straight before we bought our home in 04...so, my advice is.....be careful with those credit cards and try to keep your credit in good shape.

ooo Kimmay!! it feels so good to see and eldest sister (i don't know If we write this word like that! sorry!) sharing some advices with us!!!
but I have the chance to have parents that teaches us early how important the value of money is!! so!! we know that we don't have to spend it just like that!!! and I have a part time job!! but it is to pay my appartement !! since I am living by myself since 2years!! (by the way I am 20!!)
thank UUU

ok, just finished the whole vid. i often say that black parents/peers need to discuss finances more, instead of treating them like secrets that can be used against them. this is how we generate best practices among social networks. ;) glad u did the vid. p.s. i'm guessing you went to Jones in H.S. ...?

My advice to my 23 year old me... (or 21 year old me) don't co-sign NOTHING...save all your little money ( I worked at Sears in high school and work study in college), stay at home as long as the parents will allow and save.
Notthecoolmom 2 years ago
my parents definatly don't talk about money, maybe coz they don't set the best example. despite my mum earning quite a bit of money, they are always overdrawn, owe money on the credit card and have a house that needs updating in many areas before things just completely break down (my sis won't even bring friends over she's that embarrassed of the place).
AfricanPrincess2006 2 years ago
we also never go on holiday although my friends who's familys earn significantly less than mine go on holidays to main land europe almost every year. my dad always says we need to do this + buy that but they never do. It's probably coz they give so much to church and charity and relatives, but do they have to give so much the immediate family suffer? (ok suffer is a bit extreme but you get what i mean)

Thanks for sharing kimmay! I'm 23 and in grad school. I sometimes forget that I will have to pay all of the money I am borrowing back plus interest in the future. I think good financial practices and living minimally now will help make that 'less painful' lol! I appreciate your vid.

But, when I look back and think man, if I would've started saving when they told me too, I would've had enough to buy furniture at the time too! lol!

Happy Belated Birthday Ms. Kimmay!
