nice video. I have a question, I recently spun the bearings on my 2nd generation eclipse was wondering if i need a bottom end rebuild or if i need to do complete engine?
@mpking123 A bottom end rebuild---including getting the block cleaned and magnafluxed, getting your crank checked, installing new rod bearings and crank bearings, installing new oil squirters (if your block has them---not all 7-bolts do), and installing a new front case. You should also learn about crankwalk (if you haven't already) on your favorite DSM forum---7-bolt engines are more prone to that phenomenon than 6-bolts.
@strykerhorse Thanks for the info. and yea i learned about crank walk and rod knock when it happened to mine then i did research and seen that it was common on 7 bolts. I was actually thinking recently about doing a evo 9 4g63 swap just so i get ride of the 2nd generation problems.
@strykerhorse~ u know what i figured out?..... that its best not to use any assembly lube on the bearings. Just use engine oil. Because that lube is gonna end up mixing with the oil once at operating temp. And u dont want that because thats like putting a friction modifier in the oil.... which of course means the rings wont bed in properly. Just take the spark plugs out and crank it over until u get some oil pressure, then u can start it knowing u got a good amount of oil in the bearings. :D
@marek0086 To each their own, but I prefer to use assembly lube any time I'm dealing with bearings (especially if the build is going to be sitting for any amount of time). It stays where you put it and ensures the bearing won't be run dry before oil pressure builds. I don't think it will act as a severe friction modifier, as it's expressly made for assembly purposes and should dissolve into engine oil with little effect. I've used RedLine and AMSOil products with great success.
@strykerhorse~ Oh, good for u bro!.... RedLine is the BEST assembly lube if u ask me. (in fact, ALL their products are the best u can get :D). Im a HUGE fan of RedLine stuff.... they know what they're doing!
Id only use a very thin coating on the cam lobes and on the threads of engine fasteners. Like i said, u just remove the spark plugs and disconnect the injectors (or pull fuse) and crank it over with the starter motor until u have some pressure. Too easy.
so I got a question for anyone I have a 97 gst freshly blew motor and trans I want a 6 bolt what do I got 2 do differently 2 put the 6 bolt in my 2nd gen I got auto trans I want 2 do a swap I know I got 2 change all the linkages and all that but anything serious with getting the 6 bolt engine and transmission in I heard I got 2 get a adapter plate for the trans I just dont know about gettin 6bolt engine and trans in 2nd gen
Good vid but engine bearings are definately NOT the most important part of the whole engine. Every part is just as impotant as the next for optimum efficiency. Good build so far nice to see that ur carefull.
@4B11T You're right---all parts work together as a system to allow the engine to function; however, without bearings, your crank fails and you can't get home.
@4B11T yea but on these dsms its the bearings that usualy go before anything esle so i would recomend that you get some of the best bearings out there
does anyone know if i can use the throtle from a non turbo on a turbo?

@mpking123 a 6-bilt swap would be easier and far cheaper. You can find instruction on how to make it happen on your favorite DSM site.
