  • I have heated handles on mine. That's a nice option.

    Not a deere though.

  • Excellent video the cleats on the boots is an excellent idea to keep traction when snowblowing your driveway. Sweet machine and house on the lake.

  • OK, I have a rock drive way 700 feet long. I have also a John Deere LA175 yard Tractor. I have a snow plow blade, wheel wehights, and chains on order should be installed Tomorrow. Can I do any good with a snow blower that the plow won't do? Also If I got a Snow plow would I get the one that goes on the mower or the one you walk behind??? I wondering about changing from the plow to the snow blower attachment for the LA175??? Thanks, your opinion please! Jimmy:)

  • Do you take happy pills? Seriously.

  • @vindactive No happy pills for me. I'm just generally in a good mood. The happier you are, the longer you live.

  • @AsktheBuilder Can't disagree with that. Maybe you should do an episode about how to be in a good mood and keep your mind on what makes you happy. I'd watch that!

  • I'm looking at buying a new 1338PE John Deere snow blower. Any thoughts? Thank you.

  • What model is that?

  • im sorry Tim not Ted

  • @TractorWorld Yes, Ted has left the building. I'm the one left behind doing all the work. :->

  • Hey Ted i want to tell you your videos are very good and helpfull! thanks for taking the time to do this!!

  • Great job!

  • wow... what a beautiful machine, i wish i had the money for one of those :(

my 9hp walmart blower usually does the trick though

  • @doctorgonzo024 look on craigslist.. i saw a 12 hp 33 inch snowblower for $275.00. having a honda 11 32 i assed on buying it when i saw it though. craigslist has so much of everthing 'exept guns/knives of coarse' it's like a local ebay where you go & pay cash for stuff. not affiliated with ebay though.

  • That is a really nice snow blower..nice review too!

  • wery nice..you make a good job..Congratulation and happy new year!

  • are you paid for the this to test blowers ??? because if yes is a cool job you know what I mean guys !

  • @SuperYan44 I am not paid to test the blowers or any tools you see me demonstrate. I have a clear Disclosure Policy at my AsktheBuilder website. Go way to the bottom and click the Legal link.

  • wow i really want a john deere one i got a snapper and its old so it has no good features and im lookin to upgrade

  • @nrubmx I wouldn't limit your final choice to a Deere. There are other machines I've tested that did just as good a job for less money.

  • @AsktheBuilder do you have any suggestions?

  • @nrubmx Uh, yes. Did you watch the other two videos I have about snowblowers? Type into the YouTube search engine: snowblower Tim Carter

and see what comes back in the results.

  • @AsktheBuilder did you know some people have the snowblower attachments for bobcat loaders?

  • @nrubmx look on craigslist

  • I have 5 blowers .. but i do snow removal here in Wi. a Deere,Craftsman,Honda,Toro, and a Ariens .. and the only 1 i would say isnt worth the money is the toro .. all 5 are 28inch path .. i like the Honda but only because it's quiet and operates smooth but pricey .. the craftsman although talked bad about sometimes mine is a year older then the others i have but holds it's own against them only thing i dont like about it .. it has tracks

  • sweet! can that work on dirt as well?

  • @honeybunchickens We'll see what the Court of Public Opinion thinks about your comment......

  • @AsktheBuilder Why use a bull dozer. When u can use a design like that to through dirt into a truck. Its called the dig crush & through dozer. Very simple design right there. But a lack creativity and ignorance u have. Because I am an engineer and I could see something so simple and take that concept and help people save thousands for transporting dirt into a truck, A lot of dirt. it has a separator for big rocks to medium size. the rest is thrown.like sand in a screen only big ones stay on top.

  • @honeybunchickens, Actually the way you worded your comment, most people would think you want to throw snow off of dirt instead of pavement. But to answer you, there isn't enough control to make it useful in enough applications. Most bull dozers want dirt in a specific location, and shaped specifically. This would just make a mess. With snow that's ok, as it melts later. I'd give the "creativity" a rest and work towards common sense first.

  • @honeybunchickens, the answer is because it's 2 stage it would work to throw snow off of dirt roads as well.

  • i can attach it with my mower :D

  • Witch snowblower do you like better the craftsman or the jhon deere?

  • @Craftsteen117 Well, I have to tell you that they both do the exact same thing - a great job of clearing snow. They have nearly the same features. The Craftsman one is far more affordable. Which one would you buy knowing all these facts?

  • @AsktheBuilder Well i generly like the craftsman brand so craftsman

  • yeah, but i prefer a johnny

  • @AsktheBuilder, Most snow throwers and tractors have the same basic components which are usually made by a slew of the same companies. I have a john deer tractor, but many of it's same parts can be found on an ariens. The transmission on many deer is the same as what's on other models. Tires, dipsticks, belts, engines etc are often very similar. I look at over all quality. I just picked an ariens for my dads place that is BETTER than the deer I have in many ways and it cost less.

  • @AsktheBuilder, I also checked desk steel, welds etc and found them to be very close. Unless you are jumping the tractor over a stunt tract, there's really no difference as it rolls over a lawn. Also the engine in the ariens as been used in the deer. All the "deer" quality talk, is just that. Talk. After spending hours, seriously looking over the situation, I've found many pricier tractors just have ways to take your money. I'd think the sears is probably also a similar situation.

  • @AsktheBuilder, I'm not saying all tractors are the same. I just mean within a few hundred, and in a certain range they are just so similar. And it's not always true in every case. But if you lift the hood, check around and have a good eye you can usually spot a good deal whether it's deer, craftsman or ariens etc.

  • i have a old ariens, like a early 90 and i put a 96 cr 125 engine on it and it just launches snow..lol i will always use a bigger snowblower cuzz the little one always break..the only little ones i like are them little toros..my faviort snowthrower is the ARIENS 9 hp with the tracks on it..

  • This video is lacking many critical aspects. Just to name a few...

    1. two-stage vs. single stage

    2. 2-stroke vs 4 stroke

    3. Horsepower requirements

    4. Electric starting as an option

If you don't know about snow blowers and you would like to buy one, you better get your info somewhere other than this video!

  • I love getting comments like yours. First, I go to your channel and there is not one video. There is nothing in your profile that leads us to believe you're a snowblower expert. Then you come and lecture me about what a video should contain. I wish you could see me shaking my head and grinning. I hate to be so harsh, but you're just another jealous, faceless hater here on YouTube. If you believe you can make more authoritative videos, then just focus your energy there instead of commenting.

  • Don't let this idiot ruffle your feathers. Those basic questions will be answered long before you look for a snowblower of this quality.

    Single stage... shop in Walmart

4 stroke, obviously a larger machine

Not really an issue... the larger the machine the more horsepower it is. It's not like you have a choice of engines.

Electric start... do any come without electric start?

great vid! Wish it were longer and gave greater detail to that particular model.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks. What he was asking for was a 15-minute DVD. My videos are short for a reason. Not to mention the enormous cost of post production time. To do the video he was asking for would cost me hundreds of dollars of post time.

  • dude ur awsome he is justing acting smart

  • Thanks. I'm just trying to impart some common sense.

  • For the question about the roof, I've seen people use snowblowers on the roof.

  • do you have any videos on racking snow off a roof? because i got one today and im just learning how to use it

  • I don't, but will! Last year would have been a great time to show it as we had lots of snow. I'll do that video within a month if Mother Nature cooperates.

  • Hey Were do you live it looks like u live in the forest but what big country

  • On the western shore of Loch Winnisquam in New Hampshire

  • Try A Video On Honda Snowblowers Buddy

  • Great idea. I'll see about getting one to review.

  • @airplane154 honda rules

  • How well does a snow blower work on a gravel drive way. I live in the country and have a 1/4 mile of drive way to plow

    Thanks

  • They work great. Look at the video again where I talk about the adjustment blocks at the bottom. You set those up an inch so the bottom of the blower clears the gravel.

  • ive got to ask.....is that one of JD's new snowblowers? Whats the model of it? I have an old 10 yr old blower that barely runs anymore and im heavily considering a new Ariens or JD blower.

  • I'm sorry, but I don't know..... JD took the machine away from me..... I'm LOVING the Craftsman I'm now using. Take a look at the CRAFTSMAN two-stage snowblower. Watch my video about that one. We taped after a very wet snow.

  • try cub cadet because they are BEASTS! i have a 524 model and it took on a 20 inch drift like it was 1 inch!

  • were do you get those snow cleats from, ive almost landed on my ass a few times from the ice under the snow and dont wanna litterally bust my butt doin the driveway

  • Google them.... Ice cleats

  • you can also look up "yaktraks" wich are snow chains for your feet

  • I tried those. They kept breaking on the hills. They work fine on level ground, but the stress of going up hills snaps the rubber threads.

  • I have the same John Deere blower and it is a blast to use. I can hardly wait for the winter blizzards with their 2+ feet of snowfall.

  • Sure thing. Get yourself a blower and tape the video of the two side by side. Come back and tell us where we can see the video test.

  • It's no contest. The snow blower wins every time. The mower will just sit and it's wheels will spin.

  • trust me no u dont.....

looks pretty.....snow sucks....ever try pushing a truck out of a snowbank?

snow looks pretty but i have seen it for 25 years it sucks.

  • Well it depends if your "sure" because snow can get REALY annyoing.

  • Yes! Nice demo man. I love that piece of equipment!

  • Thanks for the demo, Tim. I just bought this same John Deere snow blower for my husband's 54th birthday. I'll make sure to show him your demo.

  • Tim,

As I approach the big 4-0 this year, I am really enjoying your videos on back saving devices. This snow plow and a log splitter are on my next years Christmas list! I just shoveled snow all weekend and I am done with it! :P

BTW, those ice cleats are great! Years ago while working at the ski resort, I wore something similar. Saved me from slipping/falling many of times...

  • Jason,

The machine is robust. It will save your back.

  • YOU HAVE TO WEAR ICE CLEATS!!!!!!! LOL

  • Indeed. What you didn't see in the video is the hill that leads up the driveway from the flat apron where we shot the video. It's easy to slip going up or down that hill. It's *very* steep. Ice cleats are mission critical when working with snow blowers on slopes.

  • Great machine! Lucky for me, the apartment managers take care of all that so that I don't have to worry about it. The ice cleats are a great invention. I'll have to see if they sell them out here in my area. Great video as usual.

    - Paul Seveng

  • Paul,

The ice cleats are amazing. I've never worn them before, but now will never be without them. They are mini crampons!

  • Love the Ice-cleats,Looks like you guys got hammered up there! Nice vid +++Bob

  • Thanks Bob! Hope all is well at your channel!

  • Great video, Tim. We liked it so much that we published it on our site too.

If you're looking for a snow blower, we still have a handful in-stock. Most of our inventory sold out in December.

The key is to buy early. Good luck trying to find one in the middle of a blizzard.

  • u r the man my man

  • Thank You Tim! I live in Ottawa Canada and we get snow aplenty :)

I think it might be worth mentioning that once you get the bulk of the snow with a snow blower or even a shovel that finishing up with a leaf blower to get the finer snow off your driveway or walkway is worth the investment. I personally use a Stihl BG 55. It gives a nice touch.

  • Hey Tim! Great Vid-great machine-course we are John Deere lovers anywise! Sounds like the levels on the overvoice @ end of video is at a much less irritating overlevel-good work!

We are considering one in the future-not a lot of snow during season, but when we get snow, it comes down DEEP here in the Sierra-and NO one has snow handling equipment at home (hmmm a little extra cash-?)

    Your bud Nick In CA-

  • Hey Tim how snow does these snow blowers cost!

  • That blows. In a GOOD way! It was interesting to see how the controls work. Now I'm more interested in buying one. It would have saved me $40 yesterday when I had to wait for a guy on a snow plow to clear my driveway.

  • great video, we just purchased one this past fall great machines they are. I cant wait til it snows now. ahahha

  • Nice video! I live in Maine and I see these all the time. Thanks for telling me how they work!

  • As I said, not much different than a lawn mower.

  • hi are these all your thing or do you rent them???

    good video

  • I borrow them most of the time. The length of time varies.

  • Great video! I could use some of those cool ice cleets. I slipped on the ice about three times this winter and it hurts!!! That snowblowing machine is pretty awesome. I like how you can change the direction of the spray. Never knew you could do that!

  • Cool stuff. But I'm still glad we don't get any significant snow in this part of Sweden.

  • I live in the city and I'll probably never get one, but I genuinely enjoyed the video especially at 3:11

  • Out at the farm we have a seven foot pto blower. But I need something small enough to blow sidwalks, and our small driveway. It's nice to see how far along snow blowers have come in the last decade.

  • Tim I use my snowblower more then my lawnmower.I have destroyed the gears more then once. One thing I have learned is to spray all the gears and wheel bearings and augers with white grease{lithium grease}often.Keep the lubricant off the friction wheel and drive plate. If you don't lubricate your snowblower it will not move after year or so.

  • where do you get that

  • hay mr.Tim.this is agure007,this is your first video in a long time, why did you stop making videos for a long time?eneyway, nice video.i will be looking for words. to seeing more video from you,and also where do you live, like what state and city???agure007

  • Nice video tim. Though i was kinda hoping you would review 2 or 3 types of snowblowers to show the difference between the types.

  • Thanks for your comment. What you're asking for, to do it right, would be a 15-minute short DVD. To grant justice to each model, and it's features, takes enormous amounts of time. I am testing a Craftsman unit of similar size and will be posting that video soon.

  • Good video Tim!

Snow blowers are definitely a good time saver. Another good tip is with proper maintenance they can last a very long time. The one we have is as old as me (got it in 1988) and it still runs perfect.

  • ah sweet tim carter, that's one badass snowblower

  • Five Stars!!
