contact your represenatives and tell them what you think of this bill, and how you would vote. the more they hear their constituents the more they will understand how unpopular this bill will make them.-)
This also means every artist will keep their work for themselves... meaning art it self becomes pretty rare... and expensive... and more wanted... they are going to take this back into their lil heads and think it over 10 million times more before they would be stupid enough to launch it again...
This would only fly in the USA right?
If I make something artsy fartsy here in Holland or heck; the European Union then I can ignore the laws from the USA?
It seems to me that this bill is really aimed at demolishing the internet as a source of distribution for artist made works. No longer will artists have a free direct link to the public. This will recreate the pre-internet status quo where artists were forced to use a middleman to get their work to the public. It is intended, I believe, to drastically reduce the amount of free artist created content available online. If we have to pay for our own copyright will we offer the content for free?
With no small modicum of restraint, I have to say that the Orphan Works bill is corporate theft that may be the beginning of the death of the internet -- it needs to be stopped before the Corporatocracy takes over another facet of American society ...
LIES... there was report that went public about YOUTUBE having 3million visitors... LIE it was not MILLION it was TRILLION and it was not per month. per what? If I told you you never believe it. SO with this every one of us right now...If you are more than YOUTUBE and on other sites. START BOMBARDING the INTERNET with videos BOYCOTTING such corp as VIACOM and the Orpahan Bill. Not later, RIGHT NOW. TRILLION PEOPLE that going hurt them.
IF THE REST of the world has natural copywrite at point of creation by the artists and authors. How can the American bioll believe they cann steal these works by a criminal act of legaslation in which crime is commited literaly through the use of so called law.
This Awerican goverment is not only a evil bunch of war criminals. They even will steal the bread and butter of many individual artists and authors. THIS IS A TERRIBLE abuse of the principles ofprotecting copywrights BY CREATION.
Even if people pay to copyright protect, this bill is said to also relieve infringers from having to pay actual damages if they can prove they contacted the copyright office and ran a specific number of searches for your work through database systems. To make matters worst, I'm not sure if there is any foresight in this bill as to how many database systems there will be and whether or not they have to actually wait for a copyright check to be performed prior to snatching up someone's work.
This is a bill for US law. So any cases in a court of the US will need to recognize this bill if it passes. This means if an infringer claims he could not find the owner of a video from youtube, then yes, he can.
Laws in other country may take the same situation and act differently. In Canada, they already recognize an orphaned works situatiuon, though I dont know the details.
they can even take your display picture of your facebook (you know the one with YOUR FACE on it) and use it for commercial purposes and because of the many loopholes, they can get away with it even if you come to court with the same face as in the photo
oops, i accidentally erased s comment that said I should teach, actually I have taught several times in several fields. I have taught aircraft maintenance, scuba diving, and mathematics and physics.
I wish you would make a video for people that aren't creative who don't think this bill will effect them. I'm wondering about privacy issues. Can a picture of someone's drunk son show up on an AIDS billboard ad? Also, if this bill protects businesses that clear the work as "orphaned" then I'm wondering who'll face "invasion of privacy" charges? The person who actually posted the work (because that could be his best friend or his brother)? LOTS of people may be facing charges with this bill!
They're putting this bill through because the corporate owned stations are shitting themselves as the user created content revolution is gaining steam - and everyone is switching off from their idiot made, inspirationless dross. Dont watch their channels - dont buy their films - boycot - them - they would soon be a dust speck on our giant arses - scum bags that they are.
Hi. Yes..Capo420420 and hoffmann9471 had both given me the heads up with this bill. I had emailed my congressman and senator about it. Everyone should do this too. Thank you for putting it out there. Love, Pat
I sent it to my friends. It is soooo important what you are telling here, esp. for some little "genius" here on YT. Pardon for my bad English. DAAANKE SCHOEN !!!!
This is a US law/bill however an orphans work bill is being constructing in europe and already exsists in Canada.
I agree this bill needs to be watched and complained about until it fixes the obvious problems. However the bill is not a bad one in its core, its just too broadly stated that allows a huge potential for theft and dishonesty.
I would like to see a work be at least 25 years old before it can become orphaned.
i agree, the real problem is the required registration for protection, and the cost to the creators for this protection. and to be honest I would be happy at 10 to 15 years, after that its just a bonus.
You've already helped youtube make money by agreeing to their terms, giving them your video for free. If you want to fight this take everything you've ever posted and delete it from the internet. RIGHT NOW!
Between this and the new copyright police bill (Pro-IP Act) they're winding up for full Enclosure of all things media. An unfair abuse of the public trust.
We're screwed. Does it matter what anyone says anymore?
I'll be writing to the minister for the arts here in New Zealand, but it's you guys in USA who are the only ones to count for anything here. I'm begging you... stop this law!
Hey man, I get what you are saying, and I will look into it myself, but it would help me a lot if you would grace us with another video, like this on, but with more detail about what copyright issues are going on right now, cause I've honestly lost track and it was screwed up to begin with.

Stop the left-right infighting in this country. Its a distraction! You are giving them control when you do. "devide and conquer" remember!
Read the constitution.
Watch "the corporation" and do REAL Research.
I fell for the right-left thing and now I see how I have been had.
The agenda folks! WAKE UP! Do you think that oil prices are due only to demand?
When those dolls were in short supply at Christmas some years back, do you believe that wasn't contrived?

Watch the videos about how people IN 3RD WORLD COUNTRIES fought large corporations. Watch "the corporation"!
We need to do more than watch videos and leave "they won't get me!" silly comments.
People, we need to take back our country. For that we need to get our brains off any "tube".

Sir, won't it affect more than just online videos and whatever else related?
I mean, this is about taking away the rights of possession any "home-created" material right?
Also, is it just about whatever you upload or just anything they can grab anyhow?
And can I help out from Europe?
Because I think it's sick and diseases spread...
Plus the US is huge, a huge part of the world too...
