The Ukulele and mandolin are tuned slightly differently with the Uke at G-C-A-E and  D-G-B-E for the baritone and the mandolin (same as the violin/fiddle) at G-D-A-E. The 12 string guitar, much like the mandolin has every string doubled but the 12 string guitar (strings) are an octave apart whereas the mandolin strings are the same note/same octave ...

What's the main differences between playing a mandolin and a ukulele? Are the chords etc the same? I know mandolin has 8 strings, but it seems they are placed in the same manner as a 12 string guitar, where the extra strings are there just to create a broader sound?
