  • Thank you for Playing the Good Vibes. Ever think about playing "The Song of the Islands"?

  • loooool :) well done!

  • These are nice vibes! Are you using a musser or yamaha?

  • please give me the sheet music

  • that was awsome!!! i love this song and i'm trying to learn to play this on a clarinet but don't get the notes!!! anyways, you rock!!! keep it up!!!

  • Really?

  • very cool dude ;)

  • It looks like he is having a good time.

  • Did you know that every time you click your sticks you're breaking them? Vibraphone mallets are not like drumsticks, they will break. Also, like most people on here, PLEASE come UP after you strike the notes. As for the music, good job. Good job not hitting the nodes either. Your score: 3/5

  • five stars :)

  • wow he memorized the notes...

  • @rabbit792394 LMFAO

    memorizing music is soooo easy

  • You get really good sound out of the isntrument, but to be completely honest, and I don't mean this as an insult, but your technique is terrible. Anyone know was taught by a decent instructer on proper technique knows that you NEVER have your thumbs facing up. If you just fix that, you're great! I hope you have by now, since it WAS 3 years ago you posted this video lol

  • Indeed, things are improving for sure now with pro training.

  • That's awesome! Is that your vibes?

  • Nah. They belong to my old college.

  • @geekusadrummer D= ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh never click mallet shafts together! ur gonna kill 'um! >.< ppl fail.

  • @Libbyness To be completely honest, you should get an english language "INSTRUCTOR" before you decide to bash on an amateur vibraphonist.

  • Comment removed

  • @Libbyness "You get really good sound...NEVER have your thumbs facing up" It turns out that if you close your eyes, he sounds just as good as the guys who play with their thumbs down.

  • @Hammeroftruth Hmmm that may be true :) someone should experiment that in a live setting!

  • yep.

  • make tutorial please

  • C'est magnifique !!

  • AHHHHH thumbs up....

check on that... make sure hands are flat.

    but dude....thats awesome...

    you made my night (:

  • sounds really good. technique needs some work. But your into it, and I dig it :)

  • More wrist?

  • i like cats

  • this is my first time seeing this instrument.. and seeing it being played! very fascinating, it sounds awesome.. keep it up bro :)

  • Such Talent.......

  • how awesome :D

  • Sure sounds to me that you are playing the heart of that instrument. Sure sounds good to me,

    Got glockenspiel?

  • ...lol wierd

  • you are GOOD!

  • nice for someone who doesn't play vibe. your note accuracy is good. Just technique, but still good.

  • j'adore c'est trop bien

i like it. it's so good

  • cute xD

  • You played the song nicely, but it's not too difficult.

5/5 for someone who has never played vibes before.

  • other than how his hands aren't correct when he plays. it isn't too bad. kudos did you do this all by ear?

  • Thanks. I mostly did it off guitar tab (transposed to keyboard)

  • dude i would kill o be as good as u. nice job man

  • really? I mean he doesn't suck but there are definately better mallet players and I'm sure this song doesn't show off his full abilities. I would definately set your standards higher, buddy :) but good job, player. this is legit.

  • The wall color is nice.

  • WOH! You DON'T play the vibes???

    .... I don't beleive you.

  • I think I have that same set of vibes...is it the musser?

  • I believe it was a musser. This one had terrible action on the pedal...I was much more impressed with the Yamaha's (2700) at my new school.

  • ya...I know...we have 2 of dem at school, along with the love of my life, the gold musser m75...they dont let us take it out to the feild during football because it was a little over 8,000 because it has a custom fans...they are normally 7,000...

  • Yamaha is really good with cymbols but mussers in top condition are brilliant on vibes.

The tone quality is fantastic where as yamaha tone is a little.. "wonky" if you will.

  • What the fuck...dude use a fucking met and maybe find a song that respects the instrument not a lame pop tune

  • Oh heck yeah man, the timing was awful on this! but don't you worry, I have been working very intimately with a met in my recent studies.

  • Dude, I respect you. Good job on this, and good work not letting that jerk (SinfonianBro)bother you with his childish comment.

  • prob thru like trial and error. just listening to the song and then trying to find the notes on the instrument. its acutlaly not that hard, if u have a good ear

  • good job guy

  • You kept solid speed control (1:27-1:46) through the crescendo and tempo! - very good

  • That's pretty impressive for not knowing how to play!

  • yeah i really like this.

I actually like how you use the pedal. it's really good. :]

  • lol...not trying to say your bad or anything but thats kinda the point of a vibraphone...or it would be like a metal xylophone...lol...

  • Okay dude i play vibraphone i got to give you major props.

Heyy if you have the music for this can you send it to me? That would be awesome.

    Nice playing.

don't click the mallets together it bends them.

    [[ashley]]

    stickynotesrock

  • Thanks dude. Though I don't have the music for it. I transcribed the melody by ear, and used a guitar tab for the chords. Are you classical or jazz?

  • Yea, i thought you might have done it by ear.

I'm really not in a catagory, i play everything that i can get music for.

    [[ashley]]

    stickynotesrock

  • is this a marimba

  • Nope, marimba's are made of rosewood (I think). This is a vibraphone.

  • Then do it dammit.

  • Tell him, Thomas!

  • WHATEVER, dude!

  • playing low notes sounds cool. i would get me one of them if it didnt cost $4000...

  • don't click the mallets together. i broke mine like that. good technique. a little too much arm, use more wrist. and the pedel. don't drop it to much.. and don't release it too hard to, then it makes a clicky noise. but overall good.

  • Pretty coo, I own that exact same Vibraphone

  • LOL O.C. Bitchez =p

  • LOL O.C. Bitchez =p

  • just wondering, are you studying mallets now or was this just for fun?

  • I have done a fair bit of jazz vibe studying since then...I hope to put up a video of a jazz cover to mark my progress, possibly over spring break. But this instrument takes about 80% less attention than drumset at this point.

  • thats cool. cause yea i really enjoy mallet playing, so i think you'll have fun with it!

  • your technique is pretty good. don't click the mallets together though. it bends them.

  • lol i noticed immediately I guess I wasn't paying attention the first time. guessing from your name you're a drummer? how is palying vibes different for you?

  • I don't have very developed melodic and harmonic skills, as well as ear training skills, so it makes playing vibes much more challenging.

  • did you use the pedal at all?

  • Yeah, watch the dampener under the vibes closely. You can also see all the keys fall inward slightly.

  • do you have the sheet music to that?

  • Sure don't. I memorized the chords from a guitar tab, and transcribed the melody by ear.

  • OMG!! he doesnt even play this instament!!!

    read the decripition!!!

    really cool 5/5

  • lolol that was cool

  • very good =)

  • I thought that was a girl at first. =\

  • please die.

  • why should my other account die

  • Lol! Cheers mate.

  • he dosent need to play guitar to have metal hair after all he already kicks arse on drums

  • i would recomend playing without the pedal next time just leave the pedal alone. but good job

  • Why not use the pedal?

  • that was really good for someone who doesnt play it good job :]

  • what is they key sig of that song?

  • it's in E major, tricky because it starts on the minor 6 (c#min)

chords are all diatonic, easy song, but pretty

  • very nice. peaceful.

  • i love that show, and i have that song stuck in my head all the time, i wanna learn how to play it on the piano, but i dont have the notes.. awesome jobb !!

  • put it on your mp3 and listen to it, then play it, if you play piano you should be able to manage, i could

  • Aren't you seeing him play? look at the notes! The keyboard is the same in every keyboard-based instrument...

  • really nice

    !!

  • dude, this is cool as shit. i even played in a marimba rock band in the city for little bit. i would say make sure u check out milt, gary, dave samuels, etc

  • I've seen Dave get funky live with the Caribbean Jazz Project.

  • Que poca vergüenza...

  • ah a guilty pleasure song of mine! Yoou play this song very well despite not being a vibraphonist... or vibraphone player! EXCELLENT JOB !

  • Yay! Someone who recognizes me for who I am NOT. Thank ya! But yeah, it's a pretty sweet tune. No need to feel 'guilty'.

  • somehow the latency between you're bells and the song is a little off... you're bells are consistently slow, I'm guessing becuase of latency issues and not playing issues. Speed up you're track compared to the song just barely and it will be perfect. Good instrument/song combination. Nice. Vibraphone rules.

  • Nah, think it's just me having bad time. I dragged.

  • Stick heights got a little uneven in the middle of the song (Not just from the camera's perspective) and you were using a bit too much arm on accent notes, though I think you were just getting really into the beat.

    Other than that, great job.

  • this is a joke

  • you could be in advanced percussion!

    i am only in beginner

  • hmm... you need to watch the french grip on your thumbs. You're good but need to watch the technique. (here's a tip: try playing it with four mallets; if you don't know how, you can look it up)

  • Do you recommend staying away from French on mallet keyboards? What do you think of using German? I think that's what I've adopted lately, even though I don't play very seriously.

  • On mallets, it's better to stay away from French Grip, unless you're playing timpani.

  • very cool

  • Brilliant. Only one thing, I don't like this song. If I did, TOP NOCH WORK!

  • yeah pretty good....i play mallets too...its not good to click your mallets togethre like that though..there not drum sticks :x

  • supper super super

    weiter so

  • that was cool, some little things with the time keeping but really cool.

  • Haha...big things with time keeping. Thanks though!

  • I've seen your drums vids, your play really good. Do you have a teacher? I've 8 inch tom too, sounds good. Thanx for reply

  • thats a cool xylaphone

  • vibraphone lol

  • what kind of vibraphone is this (manufracturer, model, ...)? I want to buy one too

  • I believe it was a Musser. I don't remember the make. Personally I think Yamaha's vibraphones blow this one out of the water. Check out Yamaha 2700. That's what I have at school now...plays like a dream.

  • Thanks for the reply

  • Thanks! 8" toms rock socks! I have been studying for three years under the top guy in the state.

  • if ur looking for good vibraphones (or marimbas), ADAMS makes killer instruments!

  • Who cares if you're not very good at vibes and I personally dislike this show and song but anyone who plays music and plays what they like is awesome so you rock. And vibes are the greatest, so you win for playing them at all regardless of technique. Nice video.

  • lol cute

  • get a haircut, ur fugly

  • that was cool man

  • who cares about the technnique! it sounds cool =) oh and i love the bobbing thing you've got going on there ... funky :P x

  • Wow everyone has to be dissing on him. He played it isn't that enough? GAWD! :P

  • I think he's fine. I'm a good snare drummer and drumset player but I cannot play mallets whatsoever. I play trombone for crying out loud. I think he's doing a fine job.

  • Needs a lot more wrist movement, the whole using your arm technique is really going to hurt you on the fast pieces requiring more technique. Later on, the wrist movements are more clear, but the beginning technique is horrible, especially for a mallet player. The guy needs a lot more wrist movement in his technique.

  • that was awesome!

  • horrible technique...too much arm u look like your playing the drumkit...to play the vibes u gotta be gentle and love the vibes....be the vibes.....

  • hahhahaha

  • nice work dwd!! :D

  • lol @ trying to play california on a vibraphone.

  • are those the Joe Locke signature pro mark mallets? and do u know anything about the burton mallets?

  • They are DS11 mallets. (Dave Samuels) Nope, haven't heard of Burton. I get get around too much in the vibe area to tell the truth.

  • could i know what mallets your using? (are they joe locke mallets?)

  • Dude go back to xylophoneland, you can not handle the vibes!

  • i don't know, he seems ok at vibes. what's so bad about his playing.

  • look at any other vibes player on here, compared to them this guy sucks. I'd never play a gig with this fool.

  • I'll answer your question a lot better than Chaser did. firstly, I am a drummer, which is my full time gig. I have studied vibes a bit, fairly intensly at times, mostly to help with jazz theory at school. However, this video was shot when I had merely a couple months experience on the vibes. I was still at the point of grasping what a major scale even was...

  • (continued) ...I don't blame chaser for not wanting to hire me for a gig because I can barely play this thing. The arrangement I made was really simple. The worst part about it was my time. My time was all over the place. That should be a huge reason for knocking me down. Otherwise...lack of experience = lack of creativity. And yes, check out some jazz vibists...some of those guys are burnin

  • I wouldn't care of how goofy I look when I play something! I care of that it sounds right!

  • Fuck, you are good man ;)

  • Cool, You Talented man.

    Im A Drummer/Percussionist too.

  • ......pretty cool, brazilian good vibes there!!!

  • wish i could play it man! you're awesome : ) you're very lucky, you know that, not everyone can do that!

your voice is also good! and when you yell, it's cool!

would you please rate my video? secretive the scientist & one of us

  • dude can i have the music this for this?! this is wonderful. i play mallets in my school band and this is something else!

  • awsomeness! u were great...umm wish i could play it

  • Are you a mallet player? Your form involves way to much arm-- wrists'll help your versatility on the keyboard.

  • I have been studying mallets kind of on the side, so I don't get as much training as my primary instrument (drumset). I'll keep the wrist suggestion in mind though, and see if I can help myself.

  • that's great! I can see that you've been unfaithful to drums too... ;)

  • Hehe, indeed. I am a cheater like that. :)

  • xD Hah! I love how you just pop your knuckles and walk away at the end its like..." My work here is done".

  • Oh yeah and good choice of song :p

  • Yeah man i play vibes too awesome :P

keep rockin' at what u do it's an awesome instrument!

  • My favorite instrument. and my favorite song.

    you pretty much rock.

  • nice wish i could play vibes

  • heiii... nice use of the vibes! enjoy!!!

  • SUGOI!!!!

  • I love this song (living in SoCal how can you not) - great job playing along.

  • oh man this is so cool!

  • Great job!! I love the idea of playing along to a song like this. I should try something like this. :)

  • wow cool

  • awesome

  • that is soo cool
