  • What ever happened to Freedom of the press. That was thrown out the window

  • I picket against picketing.

  • @thewaz Thanks for keeping comment section open. Even when ignorant people like OnlyShapes and 301gunnar advertise their irrelevance.

  • they hell were they protesting for?

  • Anyone talk to the guy I have seen him on campus, I just don't know him.

  • It is perfectly valid that students go out and protest increased tuition and pay cuts for faculty when our administration makes 6-figures. This is especially true at a time when a bachelor's degree is a requirement for well-paying work in many fields and when we are in a period of widespread economic hardship. Calling the police in to arrest a group of students is a misuse of my taxpayer dollars.

  • 6 Go to class (maybe)

7 Look for something that needs protesting

    8 Skip class and protest

9 Get arrested after provoking police

    10 Proclaim yourself martyr

11 Put on ipod and listen to Bob Marley

  • Checklist for bored intellectual students:

1 Wake up, put on Che Guevara T-shirt

    2 Don't shave

3 Fill up huge water bottle as if preparing to cross a desert on the way to social justice and welfare class (the bottle must have many stickers on it)

4 Put on pants that are way too tight and glasses with thick black rims

5 Ride your bike 2 blocks to class to save the environment

  • cops sure do hate cameras

  • My Question is what did he get on tape that the rest didn't get? And why couldn't his friend take his camera? this is total bs

  • economy sucks as of now. gas prices are up, food prices, even tuition. go to another school dumb kids.

  • I'm glad I'm helping to fund that kid's education so he can learn to stick a camera in a cop's face and then complain about being arrested. Maybe the journalism students should make a protest documentary about the poor quality of the toiletpaper in the university bathrooms or maybe even the amount of excess pencil shavings not being recycled in classrooms

  • UWM is a great school i feel this shit is blow way out of control. i go to uw and love it. SHIT HAPPENS! move on. if we dnt like the tuition hike then go to another school. Real talk the shits the same every where, UH Hellooooo Economy is Fucked!!!!!!

  • holy shit.... I know Joel.... can't fucking believe he got arrested

  • I know Joel! Unbelievable.

  • Dude the day I don't go in to school, all the good shit happens. @@ I don't get why he was arrested. He was just standing there

  • How can you guys look yourself in the mirror? You have accomplished nothing in life except being a parasite and feasting off other people's tax dollars and then you create some artificial drama and act surprised when the cops are a little rougher on you than your political science prof. What will you find to complain about next, how there's a lack of variety in toilet paper in university bathrooms?

  • Thanks for disappointing me as a student UWM. Job well done. "Peaceful protest" indeed.

  • if you do not show/ have the credentials of a member of the press, you don't count as a member of the press to the police. otherwise, every fool getting arrested with either a camera phone, or just a pen could claim to be members of the press.

  • Fucking police, FUCK all you bonehead fuck monkey assholes.

  • they were arresting people doing nothing...arresting people because they told them to leave and they didnt? they told everyone to leave and as you can see there are tons of people still standing there. They were on the property of the university they PAY to attend...holding signs and peacefully protesting

  • that cop so wanted to suck that guys dick.

  • LOL

"Let him go ,let him go."

That the best college kids can come up with.

  • LMAO.......wat else are you gonna say??? "FUCKING let him go.....you should probably let him go b/c we feel that he is being treated unfairly!" tard ass.

  • oh the humanity, poor poor students, always put down by the man,

don't break the law, be respectful, don't make a douch of yourself in public.

  • Ok, why were these reporters hand cuffed and not the rest of the people? Sorry this is the first I've heard of this and don't know anything about what happened but it looks really crazy that they would only hand cuff just a couple of people out of a crowd. ? Can anybody tell me what law only these two broke to be hauled off? Thanks

  • because punk s kids with a cell phone with a built in cam it not a reporter. But many of these dumb ass punks in our colege thinks that they are.

Thet think they are above the law and go place they are told they can't.

  • cops are cowards. small people.

  • and we are controlled cowards for not ripping a complete hole in their pig asses

  • Hey , the camera man is just doing his job .

The cop was bothering him , by standing in the way .

  • they're coming for us next

  • These people should have jumped the police officers trying to arrest that journalist. Straight up. That guy didn't do shit. Fuck the police

  • @jjcascadia

say it to cops face little shit. you have a big mouth but i wonder if youd actly have the guts to go at cops who will get more cops and eventuly youll end up arrested and a fellon or youll end up dead. and all the world will look at you in disgrace as your lead off to jail. words are cheap and you can second gess any one until your the one there and have to do the dirty work for your self.

  • My rap sheet speaks for itself. It doesn't take courage to stand up to police, you just have to be angry enough. Police aint shit but badges and loudspeakers.

  • the "Education Rights Campaign" they have a "right" to go to college?

If they can afford it with loans or are smart enough to get a scholarship. Otherwise, you deserve nothing.

This phony protester lawbreaking then surprise they're arrested act is so freaking old.

"Whaa? Me? Fascist!" (the fascists apparently let you out of prison within 24 hrs after you broke the law)

  • cut college funding, along with all state govt spending until the budgets are balanced, doesn't matter a bit that students protest, they're stupid and don't understand how deep in shi'ite we are financially.

Increase spending as the economy grows

  • @RuflessRecords

it will also increse the deficet which we cant do to mutch. what we need to do is cut taxes, which in some ways will incress the deficit, yes. but it is proven to work. more mony in more place changing hands faster is the anser.

  • alzlon, no, no more tax cuts ever unless they can be paid for. Balance the budget and then as you grow, give any surpluses back to the people in tax cuts. Put half of all surpluses towards paying down the national debt so there will eventually be a lower tax burden since 15% won't be going to debt interest once the debt is gone, and then put the other half towards tax cuts.

If you want tax cuts with no surplus available you have to cut govt somewhere exactly the amount of the tax cut.

  • Bunch of latte liberal pussies. Why don't these pencil neck geeks get some fucking jobs. Wastes of oxygen. If only their parents knew where their hard earned money was going...

  • that's why they're fucking going to college you fucking idiot, to get a better job than you right off the bat, you fucking prick. Go die in a hole

  • no, they are going to college so they can get fucking wasted all the time.

  • not if they spend 1 minute of their worthless lives protesting when they should be in class. Just a bunch of spoiled brats that need their ass whooped.

  • You're a fucking idiot. The ones outside doing these protests are all drop-out stoner history majors that will amount to nothing in life. They think what they are doing is edgy and cool...they are morons.

  • Cops are selling out !! cowards , traitors !!

  • what can you really do about the arrest except for chanting "let him go". the cops don't give a fuck about the students.

  • These are typical morons protestors. If cops come and tell you to go somewhere you do it. How can you spread the word of what you are protesting from jail. This guy isn't MLK or Ghandi. LOL

  • I like how the chant ended in unison

  • @MMSDome: You're right, he doesn't do nothing. He ignores student groups, the staff and faculty unions, and is trying to move several departments off-site to get research dollars, to the determent of the university as an educational institution. It would be vastly preferable if he did nothing. The guy sees UWM as a business, which makes him a shitty chancellor for a public school, and thats why most of the people who aren't completely indifferent want him gone.

  • This guy is NOT a member of the press. He is an SDSer and a blogger. At most, he may be a member of Milwaukee Indymedia (which is not a press organization).

  • He is both a student and a licensed reporter, though given that you're simply guessing, "At most, he may be..." I suppose I shouldn't take you seriously.

  • lol @ rman

Are you really that stupid to believe our chancellor does nothing? You people continue to prove how uneducated you are.

  • I was a state trooper for almost 10 years,I have a right to bitch about the actions of the police..Without them it would be a lawless state I agree..But I have a hard on for corruption and infringement toward our civil rights.

  • I go to UWM and I can only say that I hope Carlos Santiago dies, he absolutely worthless he makes over $500,000 a year and does nothing for us. WE the STUDENTS pay the faculty to work for us and they think that we are going to work for them. Just wait till shit hits the fan then they will need the police.

  • Obviously he caught that cop on camera hitting that kid, so they made the evidence disappear. To bad cops can do what ever they want... Lol

  • I didn't know it was agianst the law to be goofy looking.

  • damn, the arrested the jew. that dude has the jeweyish nose ever.

  • Obama is now bribing the 10 remaining democrat hold outs on health care - check my latest video. caught ! red handed ! lol

  • good example at how a group of people can instantly become one voice

  • Press people need to do their jobs, not be in the center of the fray.

  • btw, failed chant. lmao

  • haha, they give up as soon as he's in the car.

  • Bitch Bitch Bitch, How about you come up with an idea to lower tuition costs since you are so superior.

    orite, you can't

  • lol SDS umad?

    1-10

  • Are you kidding? Youtube comments are what makes life worth living.

  • Maybe he shouldn't throw shit at coppers and he wouldn't get arrested.

  • Why was "Force used against students protesting" made private? Is it because it shows that the cops did nothing wrong? What do you have to hide "thewaz"?

  • ahhh obamas goons gotta love em

  • In a society where you are filmed 16 times even before you get to work, is there really such thing as an unauthorized camera? Great American melting pot turned cesspool, film (or not) at eleven. Your rights are going to shit and there's nothing you can do about it. Face it, you're screwed. Move to Switzerland or shaddap.

  • Another dumbass comment. Be happy for what, that it could be worse? How about I rape your mom and tell you I could of killed her too.

  • Sure makes the campus a little more interesting this time of year... They should've tased him bro

  • What did you think would happen if you brought an unauthorized camera and started recording. It scares me that people are surprised by this and would be chanting let him go. He blatantly broke the law and everyone was shocked that the police were doing there job. Come on U.W.M. students you guys are a lot smarter than this.

  • Unauthorized camera? Fuck man you're an idiot. Jump in front of a bus.

  • Yea how did that work for them 15 arrests and NO CHANGE IN TUITION. I am not taking it up the ass I am just dealing with it like MAN not a little bitch that complains about everything. STFU

  • The fat dick of loan debt is reaming your asshole as we speak. Keep taking it like a man though.

  • Better watch out for people and their unauthorized cameras... lol I agree with philly2600 maybe a bus is the best bet.... But make sure you authorize use of a cell phone camera before you do so we can all see

  • Is this the USSR or the USA

  • And I'm sure your snowballs with ice were neccesary.

  • I'm going to find you and shut you up. I'm going to make you wear a dress.

  • @LaRezNar

so they could use his camera as evidence, If I was a cop and people were throwing snowballs I would tackle their ass.... That was not a peaceful protest.

  • Comment removed

  • You protesters are nothing but a bunch of annoying ass Liberals...... Seriously I live in the Sandburg Dorms and all I do is hear about you guys, and how rediculous you are, you guys are dumb to think our tuition is expensive... Not at all maybe you protesters should get out of the Peck School of the Arts and Take something more seriously... then you will we using your tuition.

  • Were you born in 1991 you caveman? How about this: Drop out of UWM and start your career at McDonalds, stop wasting UWM's time and money.

  • arrested for doing what? police are a joke, i hope he goes to court for false arrest.

  • yeah im sure the chancellor taking a pay cut is enough to cover 5% of faculty pay and prevent layoffs.....

  • School's are taking advantage over the fact that everybody's using financial aid for loans now days. They think they can grab out extra cash from students.

  • You're right Sam. The same thing falls true for the high cost of insurance. For decades the insurance cos. paid EVERY claim without even taking a good look at them. Now We're ALL paying for it!

  • when dicksfuckassholeswe all get fullofshit

  • Should've fucking busted him outta there.

  • what a cute school

    OMFG someones getting arrested!

  • To misquote Die Hard:

OH MY GOD, THE CAMERAMAN IS TOAST!!!

  • @ ook3vin. knock it off with the roid rage. Also, grow up. You are not a 5th grader. Calling someone a faggot just makes you look like a douchebag, but I suppose if the shoe fits.

  • @colinus dude, you are a self richeous faggot

  • God you're an idiot.

  • I seem to remember some of those "peaceful" protesters trying to climb the effing building. And some throwing snowballs at the law enforcement officers. What ,honestly, would someone expect happen?

  • In this case, the only way to truly correct the behavior is not have that vocal of a protest in the first place. Obviously something set the MPD off or there wouldn't have been arrests in the first place. Are we absolutely certain there wasn't some kind of a spark to begin with? This isn't North Korea,or China, or Cuba. I seriously doubt if the MPD simply blindly began macing the crowd or throwing people to the ground without some kind of provocation.

  • Fuck uwm campus cops

  • Right...I agree with all of you who have posted about the arrests...you have the right to protest. But you are dealing with the MPD. They have a history of being bullies. Even I know that, and I have never lived in Milwaukee.

  • @konopelli youre a fag

  • Jeez, no kidding costs are going up! Do you really think things will cost the same year after year? When / if some of the students here graduate, they'll hopefully see how it works in the real world. YA GOTTA PAY IF YA WANNA PLAY!!

  • Man, that kid in the black coat and blue jeans at 1:26 sure is ugly.

  • Thanks for your posting of todays videos.

  • UWM arrests on front page of cnn

  • UWM!! WOO!!!

  • Wow I wish I wouldn't have left school so early so I could have seen the protest going on... feel bad for this guy though

  • I was at this protest (you can actually see me in the background), and I was punched, kicked and MACED by police officer when we were ONLY peacefully protesting. The news is saying we instigated but we did NOT--as this video shows! I have a black eye after being shoved to the ground by a Milwaukee Police officer.

  • press charges! that's would help more than anything else!

  • @336kgf - Your a panzy and need to realize that standing up for your rights is important and more people need to protest.... Your more of a communist then anyone posting here... you will just do what ever the government tells you to sounds like North Korea to me

  • Really? As the son of a retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant, I am so blatantly anti-Communist it's not even funny. Standing up for your rights is one thing. Pissing the MPD off, throwing snowballs, and not dispersing when you are told to do so when there is fear you will disrupt the campus is another. By the way-YOU'RE the one who can't spell.

  • Do you understand the concept of a protest? What would be the point to show up then leave 5mins later when the police ask you to. The whole point of a protest is to draw attention to an issue by disrupting normal life. And no one gives a fuck who your dad is.

  • O and by the way I was talking to the teabagger

  • @McCluein

hey mcqueen: you are a faggot

  • THANK YOU!!!!

  • Go have sex with your sister again.

  • Just because you don't like what protesters are saying does not mean you can disperse the protest....unless of course you're still singing Die Fahne Hoch. No person is above the law including the police. Accept it and respect those who stand up for their beliefs.

  • @obscurios That's right...the AMERICAN flag.

  • Again, noone cares about your dad.

  • The protesters are not above the law either. They have to deal with the consequences of their actions. If you watch the other videos you can see that students were pushing cops and trying to get a reaction out of them. You do not need to cause a disturbance to get attention for a cause. You make yourselves look foolish and hurt your cause bad by acting like that.

  • Guess what, this protest made national news, they got the word out.

  • what network got a hold of it?

  • Still living off of daddy's accomplishments I see.... Do you want to know what my dad does? I can tell you... See your communist qualities come out, grammer nazi...

  • Shut up jackass. I'm damn proud of my background and where I came from. By the way-if this were a Communist country, the protestors would already be on their way to a gulag or to be executed. Read your history books.

  • News flash we are all proud of our country and where we come from and the word you were looking for is Fascist not communist... From what I can tell you haven't read a book in years.. Finish your freshman year of college maybe it will open your eyes some...

  • I'm pulling a 3.445 at UWWC, asshole. Same college system as you are in.

  • @336kgf wait your getting under a 3.5 at a college that I've never heard of? Congrats, must of been real hard to get in to a school that doesn't even offer a bachelors degree without collaboration from other schools. Those 2 year colleges are tough hang in there. Also, its the same college system I was in, I finished my masters degree 2 years ago.

  • Is your dad helping you with those basket weaving classes?

  • Seriously, for the last time, noone cares about your dad.

  • You just don't understand.

  • This individual is not a member of the press. He is an individual who was filming the protests not in coordination with any recognized campus media organization.

I feel that this needs to be made clear.

  • Your comment on the video of the arrest of a member of the media, at the UW Milwaukee protests, is erroneous.

  • And what media outlet are you with, then?

  • what?

  • Totally was there and this just shows the injustices and abuse of power that the Milwaukee PD have been inflicting on individuals in this city. Not only were our constitutional rights violated overtly, the chancellor decided to reduce to acts of terrorism. Purely! he used the force fear and intimidation of arrest to deter students political views on how our tuition is being spent on increasing his salary. Bureaucracy at its best.

  • Comment removed

  • why are police there in the first place? UWM Admin needs to support its students. Not one measure from them has been made in good faith toward students, only toward their own and Milwaukee business special interests - this is Santiago's legacy

  • Life is not fair, get over it. Of course tuition is going to go up they have to pay for rising costs.

  • Then why is the Chancellor still getting his 3% raise? Those funds could be better appropriated elsewhere.

  • @madamimadamimadam That is a legit concern, but having an entire group of people try to enter the office when they just asked for one person to enter is not a good way to get things done. They offered to accept the petitions, but you guys had to go one step further.

  • True there is no need for the 3% raise , but that shit happens everyday all over the place. Grow a pair and deal with it. Welcome to the real world.

  • Lift up your skirt panther 77 real people take it to the motherfuckin streets to change shit while people like you pull out grease and turn your butt the other way

  • As far as Santiago's raise is concerned, and I say this honestly and with civility, it's not your call. That is up to the Board of Directors and the state.

  • Did your dad approve this comment?

  • @336kgf We didn't put the economy in the situation it is, but we're paying for it. That's fair to you?

The Chancellor takes a 3% pay raise while our tuition jumps yet again and that's fair for you?

A peaceful protest erupts in pepper spray and handfuls of arrests for voicing our opinions (kind of an important part of the constitution) and that's fair for you?

Out of curiosity, were you this outraged at the Tea Party movements? Or are you just blatantly unilateral?

  • @madamimadamimadam i hate the tea party-ers but i have to admit that they now how to have a protest that doesn't turn into a riot. I hate their polices, but respect how they do them.

  • Were you there, you would know that the crowd did not incite the uproar. The police arrested two individuals, without an explanation as to why, and when the students demanded to know why they were met with pepper spray. Then the arrests started.

  • I'm old enough to be your dad. Much like ckbass13, I was in the working world trying to eke out a living when you were in diapers watching Barney.

  • The Tea Party is the best thing to happen to this country in years. I support them100%.

  • You're just another sanctimonious self righteous asshole with an opinion. Nobody cares about your dad or the fact that you've changed oil at the BP down the street for the last decade. If you like the "Tea Party" you definitely show your ignorance. Congratz on your "grassroots" organization that helps the top 1% of the country extract more wealth from the poor and middle class. I bet you think you're one of them. lol

  • Another thing-you think I'm NOT going to be feeling the tuition raise when I end up at UWM next year? I hate it just like everyone else, but like an adult, I accept the situation I am in and try like hell to make it better.

  • Wow. You are no better than them by labeling them as hippie loser/communist. I hope someone like you doesn't get in to UWM. Stay out in the country with your "hick facist friends". See? I can do it too.

  • As a 41 year old man who was in the working world busting my arse to make a decent living when you were still toilet training, I am laughing at you even considering that you can say those kinds of things to me.

  • Boohoohoo. I'm a 41 year old working man too and these students are correct to protest. You, on the other hand, are obviously someone who thinks his age alone befits a level of entitlement and respect that it does not - especially as evidenced by your sniveling and whining. Read up on your constitution big man. Who do you think protested to get the Bill of Rights? Certainly not the roll over and play dead crowd you associate with.

  • @obscurios Being correct to protest is one thing-being obnoxious and pissing the police off is another. They have every right to say what they have to say in a civilized manner. Doing it the way they did it is what set me off. If that is representing our future leaders, we're screwed.

  • @obscurios It's not rolling over and playing dead. It's accepting that as an individual, I can't control certain things. These kids seem to think that they can do whatever they want, whenever they want.

  • Damn, 41 years old and you still live in your fathers shadow.

  • Wow... that guy looks really cool!

  • Better to lay low and stop your fucking camera or just do it more descretly.

and the whole " We're gonna support you Joel". Bullshit.

And from what I heard about throwing things at the office, yes it get attention but what kind and at what cost.

  • but dumbfucks should rally in a appropriate manner. not like animals

  • if an angry mob tried getting into his office why was some rando in the parking lot appearing to be doing nothing arrested? (not sure what he was doing because you can't see in the video) who gives a flying fuck Santiago is making people take pay cuts and laying off while he gets a 5% raise?! he made $307,000 last year. for those who dont know a 5% raise is and extra $15,000 a year! while we're here working our asses off at work and school. makes me sick to my stomach.

  • How hard is it to follow the directions given by a member of law enforcement? If they ask you to stop filming, do so, then you wont have to take a ride in the back of the van and can go to work. Maybe next time he will listen. There is nothing wrong with peaceful protests, but when it gets out of hand, and you don't follow the instructions of the police, and throw snow balls at public buildings what did you expect? Of course police were going to be called and people were going to get arrested.

  • The video didn't show if the student in question, that was filming, was doing anything to solicit his need arrest, nor did it did it discount that he wasn't. But one thing is for sure the police have no right to demand someone stop filming, nor arrest them for it.

  • I was referring to the student that did get arrested, not the person taking the video. The police do have the right to ask people to stop filming if the filming being done is disrupting the police, and what they are trying to do...protect and serve. Disobeying the police, and their direct orders is against the law, and therefore is grounds for arrest. I have no doubt that is what took place.

  • I dont know if you are right about that, but if you are that must be the silliest law ive ever heard of. Should we follow laws simply because they are laws? Shouldnt we put our foot down when something is wrong? Just because a schmuck in a blue costume tells you you cant film, you must obey? Come on people open your eyes. Stop beeing sheep and start asking the shephard and the sheepdog some questions!!!

  • @reinhar5 they told him that they needed his camera for evidence and he declined so thats why..........

  • Excuse me? So when did it become a LAW to stop filming something? How in the world can a person holding a camera be "disrupting the police"? AND (you moron) Disobeying the police IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW!!! The police are SERVENTS for the people, and NOT GESTAPOS, as many cops THINK they are. In this video, what did the guy do wrong? Not OBEY the cops to stop filming? Damn dude, your a true idiot.

  • First off, I'm a UWM student that supports your cause. At the same time I am also a Criminal Justice major. If a police officer gives you a direct order, you are obligated to comply. That's like saying if a police officer says "Stop" and you run, he has no right to chase you.

I disagree with his arrest, because I don't see how filming could be obstructing an officer or interfering with the investigation, but the arrest was justified by law and that's what really counts.
