  • why is the fish floating?

  • The title should say:

Blender Big waves, Big waterfalls and a Flying fish!!

  • I love the randomness of that poor fish that can't swim in the water, but is forced to fly above it.

  • Flying fish 3

  • Levitating fish, you go show em'!

  • And i was proud when i managed to add a sphere...

  • A flyfish?:P

  • Flying fish?

  • oh look a flying fish...

  • you go fish! who cares about the laws of physics

  • Comment removed

  • very good animation!

Thanks to you I could make an ocean basic but I can not do a stunt and scroll textures on the water, how did you do?

  • Comment removed

  • Fish is flying dont care, that fish is flying :D (taught of nemo tough)

  • Excellent!

  • Nice, but the water on the waterfall almost looks like fabric. It's really thick.

  • This is very close to Solaris' Ocean. Great

  • 0:54 is the most epic crater of all time

  • FlyFish xD

  • is that fish...flying?!?!?!?!?!??!?

  • that fish is really starting to freak me out

  • the texture needs to move with the waves, but hell yeah that gave me alot of ideas

  • Not saying I could do better. which I can't. But the water acts solid somewhat. like the waterfall. it just sort of oozez down. but who am I to talk? I just downloaded this thing yesterday...!

  • That Fish Flew like a boss

  • that fish is terrible!

  • the transitions in this video are quite amazing

  • Yeah... this needs transparency and reflectivity... bad.

  • @JAGeLINUS But it took 5-20 secodns on a single core machine to render.... Have fun with transparency...

  • @zeealpal that was every frame, not the whole thing

  • Water has a certain texture in the surface which must not happen it's like if I saw one of those sushi papers made out of an alga (Sea plant) moving...

  • @JulianLuna The surface texture isn't moving, the video is really nothing more than an early example of my first attempts to do things with Blender... but the title attracted attention and people watch it because lots of others have watched it...expecting more realism than they get. Lots of them think the fish should be under water where you couldn't see it... very odd.

  • @QJgoldfish ^^

  • @QJgoldfish lol all and all still not bad

  • @QJgoldfish Yes they would be right in assuming the fish should be under the non-existent water. Ever hear of Transparency?

  • How long that took to render?

  • Animated textures render very quickly, between 5 seconds and 20 seconds per frame for most of thus video.

  • @QJgoldfish wat are your system specs?

  • @Matice21 This was made on a what would be considered a very small machine today, a single core and less than a gigabyte of memory. It doesn't need much to make this sort of animation.

  • I just want to point out that your water, although good, needs more work. it just looks so unfinished. the water is just too solid, change that up with a different texture, maybe animate the little waves into moving a direction, wouldn't be hard, animate a small square, and tile. it just looks... wierd

  • Yes it does. this is a beginners work because it was one of the first things I animated. I should post a video response with a better version.

  • ocean doesn't have surface texture like that. study video of ocean

  • That's right, but It was a beginners animation when I made it, I should post an updated version now. it was never meant to be photo-realistic just a first attempt at making something big and wavy...

  • @QJgoldfish I understand

  • i' seasick!!! wel done

  • and fishy just up and flies away :D

    nice attempt

  • The water looks so fake....the fish looked so real!

  • would be better with out the fish :S and some change in water colour

  • lol fish = bad work..

  • could I export a wave modifier to use in hl2?

  • That is just beautiful! Subscribed! :D

  • Good animation!

How long was the time, you do this?

Sorry for this enlish, but I'm german... :D

  • @MrApfelkiller Animated textures render very quickly. Between 5 seconds and 20 seconds per frame for most of the video.

  • @QJgoldfish very cool! Thanks for this video

  • whats with the fish?

  • use v-ray

  • The reason why the water looks thick is because the texture is stationary, so we get an illusion that the smaller waves are stationary (because liquid is viscous)

Good job on the animation. I was tripping out when I saw the flying fish

  • @SeriousIlya Thank you, it's nice to hear a comment on what someone can actually see. Most animations don't have "realistic" water, this is an extremely quick rendering scene giving a reasonable result for a few minutes render time. Why so many people think water seen at a distance should be transparent shows how little we actually see what we are looking at. The fish... it prefers flying to swimming in goo!

  • @QJgoldfish

lmao, I just love the random fish. No idea where you got that idea from. You're crazy. Lets be friends

  • @SeriousIlya Friends are good, 5th Element is good, random fish are everywhere but nobody notices...

  • @QJgoldfish this comment reminded me of M'aiq from The Elder Scrolls.

    Thanks for the brief laugh.

  • the fish should have been distorted, otherwise it looks like its flying over the water

  • Okay lets go find nemo :3

  • Too much Viscosity.

  • you should have made it green so that it will look like goo, or yellow and black so that it will look like lava. because that is what it actually looks like.

  • IIt had to be goo-like and thick to persuade the fish not to try swimming in it!

  • The water is unrealistic

  • look! fying fish!!

  • BAHAHA, what the fuck is with that flying fish? I thought i was trippin' balls for a moment there.

  • WTFish

  • It seems like a goo

  • It would be nicer if the water texture itself was animated. but still a nice illusion.

  • Thank you. I used part of that waterfall in "blender Sunrise- Sunset. Landscapes on a Large Scale Pt 1". That video has a very large ocean scene using animated textures which are very effective.

  • I know this was an early work from previous comments, but you should try and add a splash effect to when the water comes crashing down from the Waterfall, it would make it more realistic and a lot more cooler. Otherwise nice job the water actually looks realistic, at least until I can see the texture on the water and then see that the waves are kind of flat haha

  • I used a variation on this waterfall in "Blender Sunrise-Sunset..." that has lots of spray at the base, but creating splashing water effects can be very time consuming to render. Have a look and see what you think.

  • Seems like fish is flyin :p

  • this is kinda fishy, shut up, no i dont mean the fish. Well, kinda, when the fish went across, if it were actually in the render, you would have seen its shadow cast on the water. And looking by the fish's quality compared to the water, this guy put a video background, that water isnt his, this guy is probably some blender nub desperate for complements on his crappy work... And plus, at the end, it says "a Quit John Blender Production"... This guys username is not quiet john, or anything near it

  • This is a Quiet John response from (QJ)goldfish, aka, Quiet John of Quiet John Blender Productions.

If you want to create a goldfish in blender... and make it swim... check out my tutorial "Blender 2.5 Alpha 0. Basic Mesh Editing and Animation Part 2".

If you want to see it awim in the mist from a waterfall... watch this video again.

Yes, you're right, when I posted this video I was a Blender "Nuooob"

    Shadows!!!!!

Have you ever seen a seagull cast a shadow on the sea?? form how far away?

  • Sorry for the spelling mistake, you can't spell

Quiet and I can't spell swim.

Say Hi to gidget the Cat.

The fish really is in the render... and I really am Quiet John.

P.S. "that water" is mine, there are guides to how I made it on my channel.

  • @QJgoldfish yea, sorry for jumping to conclusions, its just that so many people on YouTube actually do that, almost 1/3 of the videos that I have seen are re-uploaded and some re-uploaded and edited copies, so yea, sorry again.

  • a crystal ocean and a sky of fire... its beautiful. All you needed was some final fantasy music in the background. :D

  • YOU COULD PUT TRANSPARENCY ON THE FISH LAYER AND DARKEN IT A LITTLE. AND EVEN PUT ANOTHER LAYER TRANSPARENCABOVE THE FISH THAT COULD MAKE THE FISH LOOK LIKE IT'S REALLY THERE. THINGS UNDERWATER TEND TO LIGHTEN AND DARKEN SPORADICALLY TOO.

  • flying fish!!!

  • wooow you are very good!! :O

  • I do not think it looks a lot like water, looks like jelly, or something very gooey...

  • it looks like the fish is flying over te water

  • get that fish out of there . the waterfals are awsome

  • my progress on my video game im making is 1%

  • lol flying fish

  • 0:40 made me dizzy :o

  • Amazing, except one thing, I think that you need to make the waves a bit more varied some how, I'm not too sure, I deal with more modeling and land based scenes.

  • why this fish is flying?

  • If it was in the water you wouldn't be able to see it!

  • @QJgoldfish You could make the wather a little bit transparent so we could see the fish.

  • @QJgoldfish thats cause it WASNT under the water it was on top of the water fish do that all the time havent you ever seen a fish tank

  • @GillesSampaioBrazil THE CAMERA IS FROM THE DEEP

  • Why not?

  • Comment removed

  • how long did this take to render?

  • Less than 20 seconds per frame. It renders quickly because most of the movement comes from animated textures.

  • nice but the water fall needs to be faster...cause it looks like smudge or some thick kind of liquid falling down

  • That's frickin great... except.. why's the fish floating?

  • willl you make a tutorial on how to do this, it looks fun

  • There's a guide to making it on my channel.

  • @anthoney987654321 I am assuming its not that hard. I believe it is just noise and textures. Add a wave modifier and texture and you have a sea.

  • lol a fish flying above water!

  • I think this looks amazing, but it may have looked better with a different texture.

  • hows the waves work?

  • It looks like Jello.

  • may I ask the specs of your pc

  • It was a couple of years ago now but it wasn't a very big machine, maybe 1 Ghz and 512 Mb of RAM. The movement in the waterfall is all done using animated textures so it renders at just a few seconds a frame.

  • Amazing job. good work. why is the fish above the water though haha

  • DUDE! jut make it like transparent and a lil more detailed and it would look like the water in Red Dead Redemption! like thats not an insult cuz the water in that game looks real as crap! lol

  • SPECIAL super Watch unik fantasy of paradise.....Litle place off paradise

    beautifull.

  • Good

  • try using mor referrence footage, sometimes more Details make it look fake.

  • If you're open to creative judgment, I have a suggestion. Since the sky appears to be either sunrise or sunset, and the majority of it is orange/yellow, I think the specular color of the water should be the color of the sky. Other than that, this is beautiful water. Good work!

  • Yes, there's plenty room for improvement, I should really do an updated version, I wasn't very good with Blender when I made the waterfall.

  • Hol shit, man! how did it take to render? a month?

  • No, it renders very quickly, nothing is actually moving much, just a plane through a lattice. Renders at about 7 seconds a frame.

I'll make a better version soon.

  • These are good enough to pay for, but why was the fish swimming OUTSIDE the water?

  • If the fish was under the water would you be able to see it?

Or maybe it's scared of the sharks that you can't see just under the surface!

  • If it wasn't above the water you wouldn't be able to see it, and I think its scared of the sharks you can't see just under the surface!

  • that scared the crap out of me!! i thought the fish was a beetle on my screen XD

  • This one is gr8.... youtube.com/watch?v=g29nhJofX_U

  • guau

  • if you just made the cloud texture input an empty it would look way better

  • easy to fly fish with that fish

  • That is a cool animation

  • this is epic :D kind of looks like some type of gel but i cant do better anyway

  • naah, its too flat water... when water falls down it's never compact

  • tutorial!!! or is it to complicated?

  • ghost fish

  • was the fish flying ?

  • God .... 10 years of render ?!?!?

  • amazing thats great

  • rsss looking video.. i getted a little dizzy

  • All the water has kind of a jelly like consistency to it. Nevertheless for water without fluids this is awesome.

  • VERY GOOD, maybe a tut?

  • There are two on my channel- Blender Waves and Waterfalls tutorial Part 1 and Part 2.

  • hehe the waterfall reminds me of the way lava moves. This would be great for some lava flowage.

  • the fish at the beginning looks very weird...it/she(?) moves like hmm...on the surface of the water...

but hey! the waterfall almost made me cum :P

    keep doing great job!

  • 2:05 tsunami!!

  • I feel sea sick :) x

  • looks pretty cool but i gues at the end of the waterfall you could play with some fluids^^ the rest is a realy nice idea grats ^^

  • good job, very perfect this waterfall

  • yeah right why your fish is flying??? lol you know that you can made this vide with shadows?? lol

  • Like hell if I could even say anything bad about this, I know I couldn't do it if my life depended on it, I'd get too bored too quickly. Beautiful work of art you got there. Props to you.

  • from 0:54 to 1:02 was the best shot to me and looked damn near just like a GIANT water fall. You should animate a freakin cargo ship or something falling over the edge in that time frame, lol, at least to give a reference on the scale of the waterfall for these "other ppl" to see how big it really is. As other ppl mention the bigger the water fall, the slower it appears to move.

  • All you ppl complaining it looks like jello. Did you read the despription. "wave modifier and lattices". That's pretty awesome. This alone probably took awhile to render. Imagine doing that purely with fluid simulation.

  • Thank you. I only posted it to show you could make something like a big waterfall using only animated textures and a lattice for very quick rendering. Big waterfalls do look like they move slower and water on a large scale doesn't look transparent from a distance. As for the jello, I keep telling people that's why the fish prefers to swim over rather than underwater- where it couldn't be seen anyway!

  • Yeah, I appreciate this because I don't have a fast PC and this helps people like me. I'm sure you've heard, "cheat the 3d", every movie in history that has CGI may have had to find an alternate method to achieve something due to budget constraints, schedule constraints, you name it. It's like the other saying, "only design what the audience is gonna see." Like, why would someone design an entire planet if your only going to see a particular spot on it? Anyway, thanks, practicing this already.

  • its more some gello then water but its nice :D

  • not bad, still there's a lot of work to do to make it look like water (trensparency and fluidity) 2.5/5

did i've just seen a flyinf fish !?

  • If you read description he made it like that on purpose.

  • jesus christ that is nice!!!! :D

  • Looks as if armageddon happened in the center of the globe and the sea just got a new big water fall >>"

    Nice

  • The subjective speed of a waterfall depends on the SIZE. If a water fall is very very large, the water looks slower when falling, from distance.

So if this Waterfal is a super Giant one, this speed is absolutely real.

  • Really Nice work, Could maybe gett even better with some tweaking,(I allso thought the water looked a bit "slow") But allready verry impressive :)

    But "WazzUpWithDaFish" ??

    ;)

  • water needs to fall faster over the fall

  • Reminds me of jello =O

  • I was thinking the same!! As water, it doesn't really look convincing, but as jello, it looks great!!

  • wonderful and so beautifully relaxing !!

    pleace check out my beautiful

    video " Autumn serene "

    a comment is much appreciated

    Love & Obliz

  • lol flying fish!

  • loved the flying fish :D

  • Flying Fish!!! YEY! lol

  • LOL Flying fish!! the water was great

  • lol i have a realtime blender fluid video in ma channul

    lol imma spammin xDDDD

  • I would just like to remind viewers that if the fish was underwater you wouldn't be able to see it, and if the atmosphere above the water is thick enough for the fish to swim in the water would likely be much thicker too.

  • You could always make him jump out of the water.

  • No¡¡¡ 0_0
