answering the first part of ur question, is i guess islamic theology doesn't like the idea of a evolving theology, n a way of preserving that theology is to preserve the source n reference. also it has be rendered into a language that can be, on all accounts, easy to learn. on top of the the mutability of the arabic language is limited due to it semetic nature, so preserved.

2.now, the classical arabic of quran is slightly different to the classical arabic we have to day, but is so minute that its non existent.... the modern form has adopted nisbiya, a rule, from classical arabic n extented it to accomodate certain suffixes u have in English like ization as in nationalization,or ism like racism, so on, they also stopped using certain tools of emphasis n end notation,these are practical measures,but if notation is used or emphasis its not a problem in understanding.

You should be well aware of Al Taqqiya as the deception is sanctioned in the Koran (or perhaps Hadiths?), although from what I surmise the broadest application of it is primarily utilized by Wahhabists (Salafism) and Shiites.

Couldn't an all powerful and knowing being create a holy book that could be translated easily into all tongues?

it translated but the prose is lost, and the subtle meaning is lost, like emphasise, implict meanings. all u have is a shell. also u can't translate the measure, the easy on the ear, that quranic prose is lost.
on top of that a translator can interpret into his belief and theology unintentionally.
when someone says u can't translate it, he means the prose, but the shell meaning can be translated.

answering the first part of ur question, is i guess islamic theology doesn't like the idea of a evolving theology, n a way of preserving that theology is to preserve the source n reference. also it has be rendered into a language that can be, on all accounts, easy to learn. on top of the the mutability of the arabic language is limited due to it semetic nature, so preserved.
so the answer is to protect its theology.

That's a better explanation than I have usually heard, but I think Allah would have done a much better job clearly explaining to us (in this century) a few undeniably scientific facts (philhellenes does a good job explaining how this could have been done in the language of the day) than handing us a lot of nonsense about "medical" uses of camel urine and how djinn get in our noses when we sneeze.

I will admit that the Arabs kept the light of reason alive for centuries despite Islam, mostly through the subjugation of non-Islamic peoples, but as of late I notice a distinct lack of contributions to science when compared to, say, the Jews.

2.now, the classical arabic of quran is slightly different to the classical arabic we have to day, but is so minute that its non existent.... the modern form has adopted nisbiya, a rule, from classical arabic n extented it to accomodate certain suffixes u have in English like ization as in nationalization,or ism like racism, so on, they also stopped using certain tools of emphasis n end notation,these are practical measures,but if notation is used or emphasis its not a problem in understanding.

I always struggle to understand how educated people can believe this religious stuff. Just looking at the history of belief should throw anyone off the fence. The idea that God cares about being worshipped, is absurd. It doesn't take grand intelligence to realize that this crap is made up.

Getting a good liberal arts education was part of what got me away from religion. You really can't take Geology, Astronomy and Anthropology in one semester and not question your beliefs a little bit.
Looking briefly over the debate it looks like you're debating way below your level. You're right that he seems very uneducated and sheltered regarding how his beliefs relate to the rest of the world. The first comment on the page about women and burquas cracks me up.

I actually think I made a crack in his armor when I asked him to imagine that he had been raised as a Buddhist his entire life and was suddenly presented with a Qu'ran. He faltered. His upbringing and indoctrination hadn't taught him to put himself in someone else's shoes. Perhaps I almost roused him from the dream of theism. Probably not, but maybe.

I can only hope that, if the people that we are discussing these things with won't at least honestly look at what they believe, maybe someone else will see the conversation and it will make them think. It is hard to get someone to honestly question their upbringing when they are led to believe that hell awaits those who question. It is even harder, when to question would cause them to be ostracized by family, friends and culture as well.

It is scary to see the outragious things that people find reason to believe in. I guess if the only people you meet in your life believe the same thing, the rest of the world must seem crazy. Add a little poverty and war to the mix and you will have a hard time changing their mind. It is not hard to demonize the US, especially with their own extreme views towards woman. The US doesn't hold one view on anything but to outsiders it may appear that it does.
